Virgil Transfer Rumours - Summer 17

There is nothing Van D can do to 'force' a move. Because it requires the consent of both parties to end a contract the player can be as difficult as he likes and avoid playing in the hope the club will get fed up with him but it's still entirely in the hands of the Board. If they have overriding reasons not to allow players to break contracts when it suits them, they will do what they have done so far, stand firm and probably recoup some of their outlay through fines on the player. If the club has not changed its position by this time next week when the window has closed it might dawn on Van D how deep a hole he has dug himself.

Pellegrino still seems to think VVD will be staying. When asked about VVD after today's game, he said "I think on September 1st, Virgil will be here."

Wow. Never had him down as joining Huddersfield.

Let's see what this Kevin Palmer news is

''Virgil Van Dyk has threatened Southampton that he will not play football for 12 months, and cast huge doubt over his international future, if he doesn't get his dream move.''

Southampton have responded with a strongly worded statement - ''Oh well, **** happens''.

Interesting to see what moves he has left....begging, crying in Les's office or offering Ralph a hand job..

Here's a theory - he has started sh*t-stirring the other players directly, on phone or F2F, away from SMS and the training ground. He has decided to make a real nuisance of himself.

What else could explain Bertrands manner today ?

It could also explain why so many of the team put in poor performances today.

There's absolutely nothing new in that article at all. More fluff. No revelations. Actually slightly more on the positive side for us, but has a slightly weighted headline.

I'd say if he has changed his agent, that's probably a plus in our camp.

Changed his agent! I wonder who the new one is then. Can't be any worse than the greedy one at Wasserman.

I guess he thinks that with out the Koeman - inspired acrimony muddying the waters, that the club might be more willing to play ball.

He's deluding himself. Krueger has made it clear in those quotes that we are making a statement.

The staying at least 2 years clause is new info isn't it?

Nope.... I knew I read it somewhere before....AR-10 FTW...

I cannot see the club selling Van Dijk. Let alone put a price tag on him.

If the club were to do that the club would be in breach on themselves so would Van Dijk, because when Virgil took over as captain it was written into his contract he cannot leave for at least two years

Posted in June. Haters gonna hate.

That article contains the line...

Van Dijk has not been training with the Southampton first team squad all summer

Which is ********, as he was photographed and filmed training with the 1st team in the first week back and went on one of the pre-seaosn training camps. If they make up that line... what else have they made up in the article? Hard to take it seriously if they can't get things like that right.

I thought that the club was supposed to be keeping all VVD info. on lock down. I wonder if releases of information like this are sanctioned, or if it is an unauthorized leak. I suppose it could also be made up but Kevin Palmer has had a lot of inside info. on the VVD **** show this summer.

If VVD canned his agent, well it couldn't happen to a nicer guy and he probably deserved it for his role in the nonsense that led to Liverpool's grovelling climb down in June. It was a pretty foolish choice on VVD's part to switch last year to an agent with pre-existing bad relationships at the club. Perhaps VVD is hoping that after firing number two (which seems like an appropriate label for Jansen / Wasserman), agent number three will create a better working relationship with Les & Co, so he could get the move he obviously wants so much. Perhaps he hopes that number three can get him to Liverpool rather than other interested clubs, since number two dropped a turd on that particular mandate.

Now the Sun claims to have inside information on VVD's meetings with the club hierarchy. The Sun also manages to interpret Ralph Krueger's "he's not leaving" stance, into a "VVD is set to leave" headline. Go figure:

Why do people claiming to be journalists simply make sh it up ? Edited by badgerx16

A lot of journalism is now done by surfing the other news web sites , doing minimal rewriting and posting the story as their own . This has been driven by the gradual decline in newspapers , national and local , as advertsing moves to the internet .

Journalists don't like this total de skilling but have been forced into it just to keep their job.

Interestingly this was the same reporter who broke the news about VVD being out for 3 months after the Vardy tackle.

Everyone then said similar to the above quote but he was correct.

At 60 million there will no doubt be a few takers.

It may well be true he has had rows, hardly surprising when we know he wants to leave. I think time is running out for him.

We have signed 2 new cbs. If Van Dijk if forced to stay then he's going to need to play well for us to get a move next summer. We get a season out of him, sell him for £70 mil and already will have the replacements ready. Thats the most ideal situation we can hope for.

The clubs stance has been so strong that I can't see them backing down at this late stage. The bull**** tweets and rumours are going to be stronger than ever now, will be an interesting few days

Absolutely spot on. The Echo are the worst at this though. Why people keep quoting Newspaper articles is beyond me.

The hate for VVD is absurd. The only people that really know what's going on are Les, Ralph and VVD.

please please just sell this horrible excuse for a human being to anyone but Liverpool and get him out of our club. I never want to see him wear our shirt again.

Everything about this man is wrong and there is no doubt it is affecting the rest of the players.....just get rid.

Thing is, this is exactly what he wants, whether it's his agent pushing him to act like this, or whether it's of his own volition, the fact remains that his side think that if he makes his position at the club untenable with the fans/club then he'll get his way, we can't let this happen or other players will think this is all they need to do should they wish to break their contract. You certainly wouldn't give in to a child stamping his feet to get his own way.

To me this has become more than VVD wishing to leave, it's about the club taking a stand with players, we all know the good ones will eventually move on, but this must be on our terms, not when they decide, allowing that would just cause mayhem and instability

The emotional response is understandable but there is a far bigger issue at stake here; that players must accept that contracts are a legal commitment and can only be ended with the consent of both parties. To fail to make that point would lead to permanent player unrest and regular tapping up by other clubs. This saga has continued in the press because it is an excuse for the papers to speculate about a player acquisition by one of more of the big clubs. The story is enough, it doesn't have to be true to attract readers. The current big lie is that Southampton have said they won't sell Van D before January. They have said they won't sell in this window which does not mean they will change their mind come the next window, or the next, but merely that club will not limit its options beyond the immediate future as future policy will depend on future facts. However, the press will jump on anything to keep the 'big club' stories running.

The interesting issue that BarcelonaSaint's comment does highlight is what Southampton can do to limit the hostile reception the player may receive when he next appears for the club. One can see quite a challenge there for the club management as to how they prepare the supporters for that event. At least it's now only a few days to the closing of the window after which we might see some genuine developments.

Alternatively, get VVD and promise he can go in January as long as he helps us get enough points to make safety a more or less certainty.

What is the matter with you? firstly what is this obsession with getting safe, we shouldn't even be worrying about that, look up, not down. Secondly we should no way let him go in January, he should betold in no uncertain terms that he is to give us a full season, with full effort, then and only then we will consider selling him, IF we get the right price
