...over the weekend and send positive encouragement. Just spent ages on the phone with Chris (his wonderful wife). Been spending a little more time talking to them than usual as both have been under the weather over the New Year.

Anyway Ron's condition has worsened and developed into a bad case of pneumonia, Ron is a proud man and is not at ease explaining he is in discomfort. He has been to urgent care and they have administered IVs (for vital fluids), medication and oxygen. Hopefully he will make a swift recovery, the outcome may also affect his surgeon who may feel reluctant to do his second hip replacement until well after a complete recovery.

Anyone that has the ear of any of the kids or anyone inside the dressing room, tell them to win one for Big Ron!! (or even win several).

Thinking of you Ron. You were, and still are, a true ambassador of our club.

Just **** to think that some of the pip-squeaks wearing the Red and White today are paid more in a week than you need to keep going for a year. Is Ron still in Mexico?

What was the final outcome of Ron's appeal? Did we collectively raise the required dosh? Sorry, embarrassed to say that it fell off my radar. Also, did the club give anything?

Take it easy Ron, stay with it man. Always SFC.

Ron is living Albuquerque - New Mexico, here is the thread which will give the details to get you up to speed http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=7555

The appeal and it's contributors were fantastic - so thanks mate!!

I think he is my biggest hero ever to play for Saints and thast takes something to be above MLT. It saddens me to think such a great man is now so frail.

And to think there are people squabbling at our club about a bloody picture on the wall

Hope his health improves soon. Both Chris and Ron in our prayers for the strength to stay strong and positive.

It goes without saying, but will anyway, well done to you Tim and your better half for the time and effort you give to Chris and Ron.

My family send good wishes and hopes for a better 09 for everyone.

We throw the phrase "Saints legends " around far too easily..but Ron Davies fits all the required qualities.

I have so many fond memories of him at the Dell, good luck luck..keep it going mate .

...oh and Ron is home now, hopefully in about an hour and three quarters I will be able to not only pass on your good wishes but also relay about a great away result!!

True, along with Mick and Dave Peach, these are true legends as far as I'm concerned (Tiss is too young to be a legend for me).

Pass on my best wishes Tim, hope Ron gets over this swiftly. Hopefully the win today will cheer him up, like it has me.

Funny thing is Ron has only recently discovered MLT through a VHS tape he's been given. He is absolutely blown away with Matty and says he cannot believe his goals or the things he did with a ball....Now bare in mind he has played with and against the best, Pele, Besty, Mooro etc and yet says he can't remember seeing better.

That's no surprise, Tim. :D

EDIT: Perhaps we should send an Unbelievable VHS tape.

The greatest header of a football i have ever seen, just thing some of the numpty commentators on the telly used to think Wyn was a better player.

Big Ron never got the recogniation he deserved

A true great who deserves a special prayer and place in the heart of Saints fans who remember the 1960's.(Both at The Dell, and often after hours at The Testwood Hotel).

Some of the greatest times that I ever had whilst watching Saints were when Ron played. Remember him signing from Norwich when we were promoted to the 1st Division in `66 for £55,000! Was at Old Trafford when Ron was credited with all 4 goals. Great, great days and a great, great player. Keep well Ron.

BIG RON UPDATE:

Ron is doing so much better, breathing easier and sleeping well. It appears his condition was maybe nipped in the bud by getting him to Urgent Care so promptly. He is very grateful for all your thoughts and thrilled about Saints important weekend win.

Ron's wife Chris, however, is not doing so well - it is almost like they swapped conditions, so keep her in your thoughts (though her condition is not as bad as Ron's could have been). Thanks everyone.
