Sparta Prague 1 Saints 0 - Match Thread & Melt Down

Biggest issues are JWP, Holjberg, Clasie - they need to work on attacking, all three just sit in none of these players wants to make an incisive run or play the ball to the strikers feet Redmond, McQueen and Jay Rod are making runs but we're too scared to even try the ball.

McQueen is our best player at the mo, but if Puel was brave he'd take off Clasie for Boufal, stick Boufal in the free role behind the strikers and watch Sparta struggle.

McQueen is playing way further forward than Bertrand normally does so VVD looks more like a covering left back. Think the change in position is affecting his game. I've said for the last 2 years Long is poor, but when Jenas describes Austin as a "big gun" I do have to laugh!!

Don't really know how it should change. They will defend hard, and we don't really have an option to unlock them. Boufal? Maybe? The backwards passing and lack of urgency are very frustrating.

This is good, you can see the difference when you have Pierre, Romeu and Davis as 3 out of the 4 diamonds, only 1 thinks defence the other 2 want to go forward

My only criticism of VVD is his throwing, when we're in the attacking third and the ball goes out he always throws it backwards so we start from scratch again.

It looked like the pitch was sloped towards the home team's goal but not too many chances for Saints. I'd like to see Boufal and Austin on in the 2nd half. A touch of Boufal trickery may do the trick.

Well, that was ****e. Utter ****e.

No it wasn't. Don't be so ridiculously overdramatic! :mcinnes:

We've been completely dominant (78% possession, 8 shots to 2) of course the final third play hasn't been great but it is a long way from a poor performance.

Can't believe how critical everyone is. We're playing away from home in the Europa league. i.e.. against one of the best clubs in Europe. There's one goal in it. We had good chances to score. J-Rod had one bad touch early on, but has looked decent since then. Clasie looking super-sharp. McQueen coming through as jewel for the future. Long playing the best he has in a while. Our rotation policy is reasonable, and is building quality throughout the squad. Yes, we could use a world-class striker. Wish we had that. I do. But we don't. So let's get behind the team we have and give them a chance. We'll equalize second half.

We played exactly the same way against Burnley re McQueen and VvD

Our football recently has been very, very dull. Tactics wise Puel plays the same game every week and either 4-3-3/4-4-2 diamond.

Would like us to try 4-3-2-1 or an attacking 4-4-2 which served us well last year. We were very adaptable last year even utilizing a 5-3-2 well on occasion.

We are just too predictable for the opposition.

There isn't any real midfield threat from Hoj, JWP, and Clasie, which greatly assists Sparta's offside trap who are easily managing J-Rod & Shlong.

Managing them so easily that only 3 incorrect calls from the linesman has stopped us getting in.

Boufal on for Ward-Prowse, who is neither an attacking mid-fielder nor a defensive one; you can't afford the luxury of a dead ball specialist, sideways passing trundler.

Sparta have had 2 shots on target so far so yet again you are totally wrong.

My stats show 1 shot, 1 on target. Hull only had 2 shots on target. Do i need to go on or do you see the theme now?

I think it's you that is a bit simple. If we want to compete on 4 fronts we have to have a squad and rotate them in and out.

It does not matter how many times this is posted some just don`t have the intelligence to understand it

We've been poor, true we've had the possession but we aren't creating clear cut chances. We are painfully slow when we get to the final 3rd and it's probably not helped by the fact that our 3 CMs have no attacking threat about them.

Sparta aren't even good, their goal was down to Clasie and Martina not doing the basics and letting a man run free.

Rodriguez isn't showing any signs of being the player he once was unfortunately. He shoulda put us 1 up early on. The club made a massive error of judgement giving him a huge contract (and a pay rise) before he proved his fitness.

Being dominant doesnt say anything when the oppositions lets you, Sparta is fine with us playing the ball around where we cant hurt them. Especially with 1-0 cause all they need is a draw and they are through. And with all the possession of the ball we havent been able to create one good chance which is even sadder really.

Its pretty poor what we are seeing atm, not that thats a surprise with so many changes.

Has nobody told you that sensible posts like yours are not allowed. Heisenberg and Batman have dictated that we are in MELTDOWN MODE

Don't think we are being critical based on teams but more on how good we had been v how **** they have been but they are winning

So what? Where were you when FF played a major role in Saint' 708 minutes without a goal conceded? Did teams just keep shooting wide during this stretch? Don't strain yourself now.

This is all about luring Everton into a false sense of security before we thrash them 8-0. This is all part of the masterplan.

Lol have we been luring them in since end of September?

Hojbjerg not looking good - dead leg apparently.

Romeu coming on.

Boufal getting ready, too
