Frank's cousin Posted 13 January, 2009 Share Posted 13 January, 2009 No. the membership elects the Football Committee at the AGM. Then, the football committee appoints the Manager etc. Edit: and the Football Committee numbers the Club Captain as an ex-officio member. The Club Captain is appointed by suffrage of the membership of the club; candidates for the post must be player-members. That way the playing squad has a way to voice their concerns over the appointment of the Manager and there is a channel of communication between the player-members and the wider membership. So a players have a say as to who is their boss? - Sorry, unworkable. The players need to have respect for the authority of the manager/coaches etc.... and would fans want other 'fans' steering the ship along their ingrained political ideology? Fair enough clubs were formed that way, but they did not stay that way for a reason - the times changed - football is now big buiness and if you want to be part of that you have to run a club with that in mind, or go and support Havent and Waterlooville. Amesbury Saint Posted 13 January, 2009 Share Posted 13 January, 2009 ……….Southampton FC will be bought by a team of Middle Eastern Businessmen for 21 pence per share, next week. Source is a bloke who knows the guy brokering the deal, an ex-Spurs player, now “moneyman” . it would be funny if someone with a low post count came on here and posted a takeover rumour and it turned out to be true. the thing I never really understood is why, even at 20p a share, the share price has remained so high. given the debt, the poor results on the pitch, the global financial climate why have share values not dropped further? hugh Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I am just hoping that ManCity don't complete the Kaka deal before the weekend, leaving us free to trump whatever offer they make ACMilan.... Is it just me, or does anyone else feel a small tinge of resentment that ManCity could contemplate spending that much money, when £91m would clear our total debt and leave plenty left over to spend on improving the team??! Given that the rest of the economy is in such a mess I can't understand why anyone would spend so much on one player. It is just plain stupid. The thing that I regret is that transfers like this will perpetuate the myth that football clubs can continue to spend money they haven't got on player transfers and wages. With the decline in the spending power of Chelsea, I had hoped that clubs would start to see sense. Oh well.

It sort of is starting to rebound a bit, instead of everyone going "wow that Man City Brand is really impressive and making Abu Dhabi respected around the world" they are getting the reaction - "what a bunch of f**wits let's get down there and rip them off as well"..
