Saint-Beer Posted 22 November, 2016 Share Posted 22 November, 2016 Bit more light hearted, If we wanted to play both players and keeping with Puel's system, what sort of formation tweaks and player selection could we use ? Could be useful if we wanted to break down a defensive unit parking the bus at home. Sent from my SM-J500FN using Tapatalk
verlaine1979 Posted 22 November, 2016 Share Posted 22 November, 2016 Play Boufal instead of Davis as the right hand central midfielder. More likely to run, pick a pass and shoot than SD, and on the evidence of his tracking back and tackling against Liverpool, not sure we'd lose anything in terms of defensive harrying. Nobody can accuse Davis of not tracking back or lacking effort. Few in the team match his box to box energy.

(& rotate them between those positions) PS - Just a side-question: How much time have they spent on the pitch together so far?

Shance Posted 22 November, 2016 Share Posted 22 November, 2016 (edited) We've got the perfect personnel to play a decent 4231. Austin Tadic Boufal Redmond Romeu Hojbjerg Bertrand Fonte VVD Soares Forster Much more balanced and then you have a pretty good bench as well with the likes of Clasie, Long, Rodriguez etc. Edited 22 November, 2016 by Shance

Shance Posted 22 November, 2016 Share Posted 22 November, 2016 Boufal is not the right type of player to be playing any sort of double pivot/deep lying play maker role imo. He's an out and out creative forward.

There should always be room for slight tactical adjustments depending on the opposition though, particularly up front where I think some games we should use the pace of Long, and if Rodriguez ever gets near his old self he'd be our best all round striker IMO

More likely two of them, and the third as an "impact sub".

I'd be inclined to play Boufal centrally, he offers more threat with the option of passing or shooting.
HKsaint Posted 22 November, 2016 Share Posted 22 November, 2016 I think Boufal and Redmond are pretty similar. What is their difference? Personally, I prefer Boufal, though I know Puel prefers the latter
verlaine1979 Posted 23 November, 2016 Share Posted 23 November, 2016 You're trolling, but I actually agree. I'm not trolling. I'd genuinely like to see our two most creative/skillful players on the field at the same time. That said, I agree that a switch to 4-2-3-1 would seem work better with both in the team rather than 4-4-2 diamond. If you really want to keep Davis in the side, feel free to swap him with Hojbjerg, but I think Hoj moves with the ball better and is physically better suited to partnering Romeu in the middle. Personally, I prefer Boufal, though I know Puel prefers the latter Impossible to say at the minute. Redmond has had a decent start to the season, whereas Boufal has barely played and apart from the one goal vs Sunderland, has done bugger all. Once he is match fit and up to speed, its a better time to compare them, but at this present time, Redmond is the better option if it is one or the other.
