Batting really looks difficult at the Aegeas. Managed to get our noses in front which is good but with 6 down and slow scoring.

Ah, make that 7 down then or not, confusion on the scorecard front..

Hmm - Lancs making the wicket look a little less difficult. You clearly can make runs on this pitch - we're going to have to learn how quickly if we want to swerve a defeat.

No play today. Good news, a draw would be fine: Essex will win the league, and the other 7 teams are battling to avoid the drop.

If they get a full day's play tomorrow, I reckon Lancs & Hants should go for a result. Both need to win. Lancs score another 60 & declare, leaving us 285 in 90 overs. Don't let me down chaps.

Somerset and Surrey don't look to be interested in engineering a result today so that's a bonus for us, drop wise that is.

Should be pretty much OK now unless we of course lose our last 4 games, which is unlikely.

Interesting Crane took 3 wickets. Considering England have got West Indies next who are crap, so England won't be scared to experiment? Will he get the call?

He did get the call!

Excellent win yesterday evening, great knock from the stand in wicky. Really set us on our way to chasing a difficult target and allowed Vince to play himself in.

He certainly batted with considerable Gung and no shortage of Ho.

I see Mason Crane is not allowed to play today as he is on important drink duty for Eng. v. W. Indies. :mcinnes:

Probably about as important as our game this evening. There must be a scenario where we fail to qualify for the quarters but it's probably pretty far fetched. Still he higher you finish, the lesser your QF opponents in theory. There will no doubt be a good crowd to please though.

Qualification is guaranteed, but finishing in the top 2 certainly isn't (home tie for the quarters).

Well that went better than expected

Extraordinary innings from Afridi (about bloody time), but the bowling tactics from Derbyshire were odd to say the least. Bowling spin at Afridi (exactly what he wants) in the powerplay, then when they bring the seamers on, they just bowl length at him when he's already got his eye in. The first time they bowled a proper bouncer, they got him out, but he'd already scored 101 at that point!

So, not looking great for Warks, one down then, Don't think there'll be a result Surrey-Middlesex and I suppose Essex-Somerset could still go either way but with no batting points for either side. All in all quite a satisfactory round of games for Hants.

Finals Day and solid in Division 1 would be a good season and tangible progress. Think Essex will beat Somerset with their fragile batting. Warks have looked like drop material all season and ageing squad, can see them being in D2 a while.

James Vince tactical masterclass.

His innings was wonderful but sadly the only big name from Hants to turn up today. Youngsters did well, not least Mason Crane. However, Abbot, Bailey, Dawson and Carberry all got overawed by the occasion. Felt a bit sorry for Berg when he was batting well and people bottling it at the other end. Afridi did very well with the ball but tends to be all or nothing with the bat but happens, we were in a good enough position to win.

Still, fantastic effort to stay up in D1 this time after a shocking couple of seasons.

Abbott was the only bad (awful) player. 40 runs off his 3 overs, and out first ball. He was the difference between the 2 sides.

Highly likely, he's just not a 1 day bowler, might have been in the past, don't know about that but he goes for 40 ish every time now.

Quite a few changes to the side today, Alsop keeping wicket by the looks of it. Adams and Wetherley to open.

No Mason Crane. I guess he's on drink duty again vs. the Windies on Thursday?

Virtually every season (not this one) we have to play them in the T20 at a club ground. Now this.

I like Uxbridge as a club, having played there several times. But having a 4 day game there in September?

Hope Middlesex don't get sucked into a relegation battle.

Play started, Strange side that Hants have put out. Hope they know what they're doing. No Dawson, Vince or Bailey it would seem.

The BBC has Holland keeping wicket, don't think that's right though.

No choice.

Dawson with England. Bailey in Pakistan and Vince did his hammy this morning in the warm-up. They didn't say if it was playing footy or not.

Alsop keeping even though Dickinson is playing. Felix Organ is making his debut. Aged 18 and recently played ODI for England u19.

Wtf Carberry to Leicestershire on loan are they mad?

Given today's lineup I would say the answer is yes. The weather will probably save them for this match, but who knows for the remaining two.

Pretty ****-poor that they're playing a County Championship game at an out-ground in September. We'd have had nearly two full days' play at Lord's with its proper drainage.

Given his run of single-figure scores for Leicestershire I would say the answer is no.

He played his final innings for us in the T20 semi-final. A fact confirmed by Kevan James' post match interview with James Vince. Carberry is rumoured to be next season's Leicestershire captain.

True, but without Bailey, Roussow, Dawson, Vince, and Carberry there's a good chance they'd lose at Lord's. And with Somerset looking like they'll beat Lancs we'd then be in the thick of a relegation battle.

Looking like another wash-out today. Hope we'll not regret the lack of bonus points from this match.

Middlesex are comfortably below us and also won't get anything out of this game, so I think we'll be fine. We've also still got to play Warwickshire, who look utterly hopeless and just want the season to end. They could be relegated this week depending on how the other games finish.
