That Premiership Table

Looks tight,3 points from 3rd from bottom.

To be honest looking at all the teams below us,there is not a lot in it and if we are not careful we could be fighting a relegation battle.

When I say there is 'not a lot in it 'by that I mean I don't see us much better than those teams.

This is when Squad Strength will tell.

Absolute bull. FFS....one bad result and the bed wetters start predicting a relegation scrap. Get real.

The Hull result was one of those freak results thaat come along every so often. For at leat 70 - 80 mins of that game it was men against boys. We are LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Hulls, Sunderlands, West Broms, Swanseas and Burnleys. We are streets ahead of Watfor, Stoke, Middlesboro, Palace, Bournemough and West Ham. We are marginally better than Everton, Leicester and fairly close to Spurs and Man Utd. Arsenal and Liverpool and ahed of us and Man City and Chelsea are much superior.

We've dominated many games this season but failed to put teams away. That will come.

Pull yourself together man. We march on.

11 games in and I don't think relegation is on the cards, mid table nothingness more likely

However we have just been beaten by probably the worst team in the league and sit just 3 points off relegation, we need a nice little run like we had in September

Hull, Swansea and Sunderland will be relegated imho

We limp on

I agree, if you replace LIGHT YEARS ahead with streets ahead, streets ahead with marginally better, marginally better with fairly close, fairly close with ahead of us, ahead of us with much superior, and much superior with LIGHT YEARS ahead.

Yip, I agree fully. I possibly went a little over the top with 'LIGHT YEARS ahead' but the point remains, we are nowhere close to being dragged into a relegation battle. We'll finish somewhere between 5th and 10th.

We were a couple of points off the bottom 3 last season. (december ish time). I think a few people were convinced it was a relegation battle at that point. We were never in a relegation battle last season though.

At the end of the day, there is still 75% of the season to go and I'm reasonably confident we will finish quite a few points clear of relegation - a fair few in fact.

A couple of sticky results and people get their knickers in a twist.

I just had a look at the latest Premiership table. We're not even in it, and bloody Portsmouth came 9th. Bolton were 7th and Reading 8th though, so a bit messed up all round. Still can't believe West Ham got away with the third party ownership thing with Tevez and Mascherano winning their last 4 games on the bounce, Sheffield United were robbed.

If we are LIGHT YEARS ahead of Hull why did we get beaten by them? Why in the PL did we only draw against Sunderland and Watford etc

Everton, Leicester are marginally better than us and to say we are fairly close to Spurs and Man Utd is not true, they have far stronger squads to fall back on.

If you dominate games you should win them.

Plenty of good teams get relegated, its the 3 points that matter.

At this point I don't think we will go down but make no mistake we are going to have to work hard not to.

Virgil's been brilliant, but needs cover if he gets injured,Austin's goals have been invaluable but will he last the season,we need to strengthen the squad.

Not particularly impressed we spent so much money on a player we are still waiting to get fit,he looks promising but only time will tell whether he is or not.

Don't tell me to pull myself together etc if I express my concerns about the club I love.

Can you name any teams as good as us that have ever been relegated?

We are light years ahead of Hull and got beaten, just like we've beaten Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea in the past.

You're one of these annoying modern day fans, snapshotting single results and coming to a conclusion on them. Change the manager, reinvent the club, sack the owners, sign 20 new players if we don't win for 3/4 games.

If you're playing the argument ''if we're better than them, why didn't we beat them etc''. So why did Norwich beat us last year? Why did we only draw with Villa at home? Why did Burnley beat us a couple of seasons back? Why could we only draw with Newcastle away?

The fact is that we were light years ahead of every single one of those teams last year. We are still light years ahead of Sunderland, Hull etc this year - but indvidual results such as the weekend can and do happen, as we have experienced every season.

I love them all, if it wasn't for these effwits Saints would never be as successful as they by just being well-run and organised and planning ahead, and basically doing the opposite of all the things that lot expect.

Modern Day Fan lol I've been supporting Saints for over 50 years.

Where have I snapshot a single result, asked to change the manager, reinvent the club, sack the owners, sign 20 players? You need to calm down.

Why are you going on about games played last season? We had Wanyama and Mane and Koeman as manager etc, different in so many ways.

All I am saying is that its getting tight and we don't want to get dragged into a relegation scrap.

I don't consider that most of the teams below us are light years behind us,they are not ,and that arrogance will get us into trouble.

If Liverpool beat us I wont consider us better than them,I will be getting over the shock, still it is Saints so anything is possible.

We will finish 6th - 10th place this season, we aren't playing bad not creating chances. Some dross in the league this season so can't see us in the bottom six.

Couldn't agree more :)

Middlesbrough, Hull, Burnley, Swansea, Sunderland (TERRIBLE TEAMS - WILL BE the bottom 5 come May in some sort of order)

Stoke, WBA, Bournemouth, Watford, Palace, West Ham (Middle of the road)

Everton, Us, Leicester (6th-8th)

Then the top 6 (City, Arsenal, Scousehampton, United, Spurs, Chelsea)

And yours remind me of someone with the IQ of 50 or less.

Sorry, but if you try to draw definite conclusions from single results in isolation it is you who fits into that category. The fact is that football, more than most sporting contests as it is relatively hard to score, involves quite a bit of luck which often distorts the result of a single game. There will be plenty of times when Saints get a win over a better side and, conversely, come out losing against a worse side, through chance on the day. Over a season it usually more or less levels itself out.

I think Swansea isn't as bad as they seem at the moment. They've had a very tough schedule, already facing Leicester, Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Arsenal and United. And us, of course. They actually managed a draw against Chelsea. They don't seem great, but I don't think they'll go down.

Its a weird one right now, it feels like a big transition season (Puel will do great given time) but I do really think our defence is too good for us to go down. The bottom 4 have all conceded 20+ and we've only conceded 12 so far.

But because we dont score enough, we will continue to lose the odd game against the likes of Hull, as we will get punished from time to time (we've only scored more than 6 teams) for not taking chances or making possession count.

I dont think the original poster deserved to be shot down like he was either, as we are nearly a third of the way through the season, and like it or not we are only 3 points above the drop zone. So although I think we will be fine and finish mid-table, we do need to watch ourselves and go on another little run (having won only 1 in our last 5).

Our last 5 were Man City, Leicester and Hull away and Burnley and Chelsea at home. The only easy fixture in that one we won, convincingly. Getting a point away to Leicester and City is decent in anyone's book. A lot of teams will take 5 points or less from those fixtures this season.

It's not relegation form. The time to worry is when you're shipping 3 and 4 goals against average mid table sides, like Hull, Swansea, West Ham and Sunderland have.
