wessex saint Posted 4 November, 2016 Share Posted 4 November, 2016 Ok.. read all the recent threads on atmosphere blah blah. I've just watched back a load of YouTube videos of saints fans in Milan. We were frickin brilliant in the San Siro and last night for the final 20 mins. I've seen the internet fans whining that we sang about Pompey too much. All I can say is that if you're a passionate fan, you end up singing whatever comes your way. If you'd like to actually come to a game and have a say in what is sung then good luck. You have to be one of those random people whose prepared to throw your head back.. start singing.. and hope to **** everyone joins in. Not easy. And bearing in mind right now you can't find your way past the turnstile then double good luck!! Anyway.. back to the vids. Yes... we sing OWTS way too much and need a better repertoire. I've no idea how we achieve this, but we do get songs like Rickie goal machine .. dusan whoaa. Etc going , there is a way. Best away support at SMS for years has been Man Utd and their inventiveness with songsbis second to none. They hand out song sheets. Sounds cringey I know but **** it works ! Ok.. rant over!! Dangermouth Posted 5 November, 2016 Share Posted 5 November, 2016 Other fans also hand out song sheets. Especially for new songs. It isn't at all cringeworthy (I'm in the mood to suggest to the OP that they use this word as it's correct and the one they used isn't), but that aside I enjoyed your rant and concur with it. I tend to follow along and sometimes even just grunt the tune because I don't know the words but I can make some noise.
Oldeuboi Posted 5 November, 2016 Share Posted 5 November, 2016 It does feel our songs have got less and less creative recently. It's not just Saints though, the entire Premier League has lost a bit of the spark. Look at how many teams tried to rip off Will Grigg is on Fire. Lots of "player" songs are just ripped off other clubs. OWTS is the only song I can actually feel like is "ours" and even that is ripped off by most other English clubs. I think we need more identity here. Some more songs that actually represent us as a club and don't just stick around as long as a player is here until the next player comes along and we use the song for them instead. I know it sounds a bit cringeworthy too but other clubs have what can only be described as a "songs committee" that comes up with and gets new songs going. Abroad, songs are usually born through the "ultra" culture and then assimilated into matchday crowds. It needs to be organised imo.
Bad Wolf Posted 5 November, 2016 Share Posted 5 November, 2016 I like the Oriol Romeu song Me too. The only one I don't like is the VVD song. Dunno why I don't like it though.

The VVD song is ****, though it was probably the loudest thing sung on Thursday and it added more to the atmosphere than most of the other songs. Now there's a song that no other club in the UK has a version of currently!
