The club to need to make a clear statement that it terminated talks with Lander months ago etc etc

what, and make sure the other group (if there is one), know they are now the only bid in town?

yeah, cant see why that would work against KL's interests

what was the game where some of our fans were singing "Liebherrs out, the Chinese in" ? Palace away I think?

Really?

Given all that the Liebherr's have done for the club. We really do have some very strange fans.

I think given all the Liebherr's have done for the club and that they have never let us down perhaps we should trust her judgement and ability in finding a new owner or investor that can deliver on her promise of taking the club forward.

Agree, but with the Liebherrs, we've pretty much hit, and will continue to hover around, the ceiling of what we can achieve. I'm happy with that, and the financially security it brings, and my guess is that over half the fan base would agree, but I can see why some fans would want a big bucks owner to come in and push for the stars. To me though, that seems like a risky strategy. We've seen clubs push for glory over he years and ultimately fail - Leeds and Blackburn are two that spring to mind, and I wonder if Everton will succeed....

Pushing for more is one thing... but simply standing still requires increased year-on-year investment, so if KL has reached her limit and simply doesn't have the funds to invest more and more, the time to change is now. That may have nothing to do with her desire for growth and success, but an honest reflection of her wealth and the earning potential of the club.

Interesting that the Echo are now quoting her net worth as £300-400m, of which Saints would represent well over half at the valuations being talked about. Not at all surprised she wants to sell.

What a good investment it was though, with the club now worth about twenty times what they paid for it........

I thought the club was supposed to be self sustaining? Also with FFP how much money can an owner put in to a club for wages and players sales? There must be something seriously wrong with PL football if clubs can't survive on the wealth generated by TV and match days and need extra cash from their owners just to stand still.

No argument there - even taking into account the Liebherr family's loans to the club & converted equity, it'll still be a very healthy return.

Though it probably also explains why eventually Cortese started taking out loans against the TV money to bridge player acquisition costs rather than turning to the owner to tide him over.

Twenty times ? With the initial cost and all that they've poured into the club over the 8 years or so she'll be lucky to double her investment, after any profit is taxed that is..

Think that's being conservative, especially as we've made a profit in the last few years and been paying down debt and she'll still retain a 20% stake in the club after it sells for a reported £210m.

as far as I can tell no capital gains tax is applicable to a swiss resident.

FFP doesn't seem to be working. If you're rich enough, you'll find a way found it.

And yes, there's easily enough money coming into football for PL clubs to be self - sustaining, but not to progress into the the top few, especially with some others clubs spending way above their sustainable means. We get sucked into the players wages 'arms race'.

Lander grounded but Saints have new £225m deal on the table

Saga continues

The advisors on the acquisition are Blackbridge Cross Borders, a financial advisory firm led by Alexander Jervis that specialises in sports deals and has a strong focus on Chinese football investment via its sports division.

Isn't this rehash of a previous article ? One that has already seen Blackbridge discredited by some on here already.

If it was going to be another interested party then I expect it would of been leaked by now especially if it's going to be completed in 2 weeks time.

Article previously mentioned Amer International, another Chinese bidder:

With that exclusivity expiring, a reported rival £246 million bid was made from materials giant Amer International and CITIC Securities. Chinese sources say that the CITIC bid was never fully committed and that there is now unlikely to be any Chinese deal for Saints.

Could be worse

The top man at Amer International that I've mentioned above is a Wang Wenyin ( https://www.forbes.com/profile/wang-wenyin/ ), and previously there was another Wang at Dalian Wanda. So we might have to fit the name Wang into a song.

Blackbridge appear to be a one man band run by someone who looks 12 years old. Shame the article spelt his surname wrong too....

Bif of concern that KL would have even entertained this group really.

Crossroads summer on and off the pitch, seems fairly likely that last May was our peak.

I don't know how these things work, but would the fact they paid for an exclusivity period mean we had no choice BUT to entertain them?

There's entertaining them and then there's getting to the stage where they go through the fit and proper test (assuming that's true).

Well the same article that is from says that we prefer other bidders, so that's slightly contradictory already.

Let's hope that's right. The stuff we know about Lander doesn't seem to suggest they'd be a great fit for us but it does seem they are relatively far down the track (other bidders or not).

What I do know from my line of work is that on deals like this you do sometimes as a seller progress things simultaneously and as far as possible with multiple bidders to create competitive tension and then decide which one to go with at a late/final stage (sometimes even where multiple bidders are ready to sign on the dotted line).

Let's hope we are just conducting a competitive process and that there are in fact more serious bidders than Lander in the process that haven't yet been picked up by the mainstream media.

I know but kinda my point if his guy is the chap from Dalian his net worth is 33 Billion .....would Kat see past that

NC did a lot of good for our club. Who knows what would have happened if he had stayed. I think he wanted more for the club, but again who really knows. At the end of the day what he wanted and what Kat wanted differed, so he was gone. I trust Kat to do the right thing with the club. If it is NC it could be worse.

Whatever we will support the Saints! Buckle up!

NC may be called a lunatic by some but I go by the facts which are that he recommended us to Marcus and that in his time werose from the pits to the tops. What more do you want?

Someone that doesn't rack up the debts that caused us to sell our best players. Someone that doesn't bully the non playing staff at the club. Someone that doesn't ban ex players or rip off local businesses to build his house. Someone that doesn't send threatening letters to journalists that offer condolences about the death of our owner. Someone that doesn't run the club for his ego and not for our good.

But yeah apart from that he was great.

My uncle knows him, had a season ticket for Beijing FC, reckons we should steer well clear because he's crooked and has loads of silly demands. He would be awful.

That possibly means Kat wants to back out of Lander ....Cunningham wouldn't risk losing preferred Journo status with the club running it if he had not cleared it

Sounds to me as though Katharina is keen to work with Lander which makes me nervous on the face of it.

She has always struck me as very much invested in the best interests of the club however so it would be interesting to see what they would bring to the table.
