ozzmeister Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 I was reading the Morgan Schneiderlin thread and the majority (myself included) would take him back in a heartbeat. However I was racking my brain to come up with many examples where this has happened at Saints (or most other places in fact). The main one I can think of for Saints is Kevin Davies (and what a deal that was). Probably the best example in terms of football in general id Robbie Fowler goin back to Liverpool for a season or two. Anyone got other examples (Saints primary, Premiership in general secondary).
OldNick Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Mick Channon, and we got some great years from him
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Both Alan Ball & Ivan Golac returned to Saints in the 80s after spells away.
alehouseboys Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Alan Ball Youth/Senior: Kevin Phillips, Dennis Wise
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Craig Maskell I take your Maskell & raise you a Jon Gittens...
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 And Graham Baker returned to us in the 80s after a still at Citeh.
ericofarabia Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 I think the ultimate, although strictly not a coming home, but a coming back, must be David Connolly who remarkably, as per the song Came Back From The Dead
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 I was reading the Morgan Schneiderlin thread and the majority (myself included) would take him back in a heartbeat. However I was racking my brain to come up with many examples where this has happened at Saints (or most other places in fact). Probably the best example in terms of football in general id Robbie Fowler goin back to Liverpool for a season or two. Anyone got other examples (Saints primary, Premiership in general secondary). Don Roper came back from Arsenal and Ivan Golac resigned twice.
dronskisaint Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Mick Channon probably the most successful, Alan Ball and Kevin Davies also ok...as a general premise I don't think it's good to return to a former employer but for Channon he was back near his 'orrses! :-)
nta786 Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Thierry Henry for Arsenal, and Dortmund have done with Götze, Kagawa and Sahin (I think)!!!
SNOWY Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Denis Wise, Kevin Phillips, both released as kids before returning later
Lets B Avenue Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Tommy Tynan for Argyle Surprised you didn't add Paul Wotton Football Genius.
bpsaint Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Bt ! Beatts didn't leave and come back? Does Jack Cork count given as he was on loan the first time?
Saint Without a Halo Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 More recently Jack Cork although first spell was a loan
Gunnery Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 JayRod left us for a long stint with FC Treatment Table before returning half the player he was....
david in sweden Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 As for players who had a career with Saints....left the club then returned (successfully)..there are very few. Most mentioned above. In reality there is a lot of truth in the old saying " never go back " .very few ever got anywhere near their previous form, and it was always best to remember them - as they once were. As for having Schneiderlin or Oxlade-Chamberlain back(?) .....it may sound a nice thought ....but we warned !
Lighthouse Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 JayRod left us for a long stint with FC Treatment Table before returning half the player he was.... Saint Charlie also left us at some point in the recent past and has, I suspect, reappeared.
petts Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Does Richard chaplow count? (he was loaned to us first) Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
david in sweden Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Does Richard Chaplow count? (he was loaned to us first) Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk Probably not. I read the OP... as a player who had left us by choice, but returned to us later on.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Didier Drogba returned to Chelsea for a season.
5string Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Do managers count? Howard Kendall & Everton? Ian Rush & Liverpool (after having a 'mare at Juve). Denis Law & Man City (after hitting the doldrums for a few years at some small cross-town club...!) I know they're pre-Prem, but so was Channon.
Portugalsaint Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Does Schniederlin want to return? I thought he would go to Tottenham, arse or liver rather than return to us. He made a mistake like so many have.
ringwood Posted 24 October, 2016 Posted 24 October, 2016 Jimmy Case was another who returned , but Channon has to be the most successful in a Saints shirt
