Jan Poortvliet has called on his team to win two of their next three “massive” games to ease their relegation worries.

The Saints head coach knows that it is crunch time in the battle to stay in the Championship.

Saints travel to Barnsley tomorrow before games against fellow bottom six strugglers Doncaster at St Mary’s and Norwich at Carrow Road in what are make or break fixtures.

Poortvliet has stopped short of calling on his side to make a clean sweep of nine points from the three matches after having his fingers burned with his previous target this season.

On October 14, Poortvliet urged his side to take 18 points from their next ten league games.

Since that time, Saints have had 16 league matches and taken just 12 points!

For Poortvliet, though, things have changed a lot since then and NOW is the time to get the results that count

Nice to see he realises the next 3 games are massive. But as the Echo point out lets hope he delivers this time. As last time he said we would get 18 points from the next 10 games, when really we got 12 points from the next 16 games..

Lose and that will be 4 points from last 28. Have to win, no excuses. Even if it is a shot that hits someones ass and goes in the top corner were take it!

We all know he's right, not sure it needs saying, but I suppose he wants fans to know he and the players are fully aware. Still, only works if we go and do it.

2 draws and a home win wouldn't be the end of the world though. Do think that's a minimum though.

Score one more goal than our opponents in the remaining games and we'll be in the play-offs. Simple really.

guaranteed - unless we go into administration, see its not the answer!

What JP fails to grasp is that so do the teams we are playing and they are better than us.

0 points out of 9 me thinks.

I'm sure the players are aware of the situation. I don't think Jan is helping by putting pressure on them with these statements.

Thats a pretty low amount of pressure! Being told to try to win, that must be a hard concept for a professional sportsman!

Get off Jans back!!!

The only way we are ever going to win a game of football is if we start shooting at the goal. Doesn't matter how much they want to win the game, if the boys up front keep on trying to walk the ball over the line then we are doomed. It is a scientific fact that if you give the football a mighty great big crack and aim it at the goal mouth then you dramatically increase your chances of winning.

(Saga knows all about this, so my spirits have been lifted on the news he is back)

Just underlines how clueless Lowe's man is then ???

Or how clueless we are. We either criticise him for not setting high standards or we criticise him for doing so. Let's face it, some people are just bitter and will criticise RL or JP irrespective of what they say.

I wonder what they could have to be bitter about? The fact that we used to have a football club which punched above its weight, gave others a good game, treated its supporters with respect, entertained its fans perhaps? Or the fact that all that stability and solidity has been ****ed away by the current incumbents and their predecessors? The fact that Lowe's master plan now has us hovering above the trapdoor to League 1, the third tier of English football?

Now who on earth could possibly feel any bitterness about that?

It simply won't happen....there is no fight, no desire, no will to win...........the whole thing is a lost cause and frankly more and more supporters are realosing that by the day!!

I will never be bitter about Lowey or his Lavender Hill Mob or even his Dutch Masterclass,

JP,Wottey and Gorrey.

Mind you I have become a little bitter and sad the way some of his Luvvies, Pixxies and Special Agents have performed under the guise of Saints Supporters.....Rupert we expected such arrogance.....But from fellow human beings.

Fair point. I was trying to state a fact rather than be critical. Hence the royal 'we'. Having said that I fail to see how constantly focusing on the negative can make people feel better. Still - I guess it works otherwise they would not do it.... (???)

I think that people focus on the negatives because they can see few, if indeed any positives right now. I am by nature an optimist (in life generally, that is) but I find it difficult to the point of impossible to feel optimistic about Saints at the moment.

well it has to be at least 7 in total now... even if we had lost today Donny and Naaarwich were must win games.... no positive results and both open gaps and donny with a game in hand!!!
