Just had a chuckle at your description of a work colleague.

 

He sounds like the bloke that does those YouTube "joke" videos. All high pitched and nasal. "A a a, we is going to pummel you guys on Saturday, 7-0 is my thinking". ****.

Yeah, totally NOT a Saints style signing at all. He didn't "get" our model, claimed my view of it was crap as we have bought players from Chelsea and Utd (are you sure? [emoji23]) recently.

I'd rip your arm off for Daniel Sturridge. On his day he's absolute class. Yes I know he's had his injury problems but he'd be the missing piece we've needed for years. A genuinely top quality striker!!!

January is a difficult time to buy as clubs don't to sell players half way through the season... unless you look at leagues where the season follows the calendar year, like Brazil.

He's not the sort of static, limited 9 that Puel and I hate but a highly mobile player with a very good all round game, best forward in the league after City's Gabriel Jesus. Was very good in the Olympics for Brazil too, for whatever that's worth.

Would be cup tied for the Europa unfortunately. Not the only interesting forward on show in that game, Maximilian Philipp of Freiburg is also a good forward. Didn't have a great game though.

Why is the concept of a release clause so difficult for people in this country to understand?

It is a requirement of Portuguese law that his contract should have a release clause, obviously the club will set it at an unrealistic price. The absence of a release clause like our players is the equivalent of having a release clause set at infinity.

He would cost much less than €45m.

In a transfer market where a decent season int he Championship as a striker gets you valued at £12m to £15m, then £11m for Rodriguez is cheap.

Is it though? And given my stance on selling Van Dijk I'm not exactly above pricing our players out of the market. Good Championship players go for those prices because they guarantee goals in that league and might be able to step up and score in the Premier League. Jay doesn't look remotely like a Premier League player since coming back from injury. Then you have to consider his importance to us, he is the worst of our forwards and the one most likely to be replaced with an upgrade, indeed there was strong speculation that he was to be sent on loan. Good chance that was true and only didn't happen because the transfer for is replacement fell through. He is borderline surplus to requirements at this point, 11m is a great deal for us. Put it this way, would you be happy for us to buy Jay for 11m? I'd be furious.

It's not, he's useless at the moment. 11 million is a great price.

Riechedly Bazoer isn't happy at Ajax at the moment. He'll probably end up being too expensive to buy for us, but I'd take him on a half-season loan to give him the playtime he desires.

Dont think Bazoer would be too expensive atm for us, just dont think he would be willing to come to Southampton. He would be a cracking buy tho cause i think he's going to become world class in the future, a loan wouldnt make that much sense tho since we got plenty of players on his position.

 

Ajax is like candyland atm tho, so many great talents: Tete, Bazoer, Ziyech, Dolberg, De Ligt etc etc but chances are slim to none that any of those will come to us in the future.

The diamond relies on full backs to provide the width - cuco just doesn't do that very well.

 

Some one cheap I would guess or an ex winger would be a likely candidate.

To be fair, we don't really play the diamond anymore - more of a 4-3-3

Maybe it's because we haven't had our first choice full backs for most of the season?

 

Maybe a cheap berahinio would be a likely ptransfer aswell - put JRod on Loan there till the end of the season as part of the deal or something.

I disagree he is not bad getting forward and is capable of putting in good crosses....can't defend for toffee mind but decent enough going forward.
