Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 I have a blocked sink in my flat... I would like tips on how to unblock said sink... Either that or Kim and Aggie to come around and do it for me...then sniff my bed linen...the perverts...
Hatch Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 I had a blocked sink last year. Cost £3,300 to fix. They had to dig up the floor and everything. Have a Good Weekend.
Scummer Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 I have a blocked sink in my flat... I would like tips on how to unblock said sink... Either that or Kim and Aggie to come around and do it for me...then sniff my bed linen...the perverts... First thing to do would be to unscrew the u bend under the sink, and see if it's that that's blocked. There'll be water in it, so make sure you put a washing up bowl underneath.
Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Author Posted 9 January, 2009 I'm moving out in a couple of weeks...i have no intention of removing the u bend...
Scummer Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 I'm moving out in a couple of weeks...i have no intention of removing the u bend... Only takes a few minutes, you can probably even do it by hand with no tools.
Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Author Posted 9 January, 2009 Only takes a few minutes, you can probably even do it by hand with no tools. Maybe. But that would have the ewwww factor... I want miracles...at a low cost...
thesaint sfc Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 Use a plungery thing. I am not sure of the technical term.
TopGun Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 Only takes a few minutes, you can probably even do it by hand with no tools. It's probable that's where the block is especially if your washing machine feeds into it. It's easy to do but does smell a bit.
thesaint sfc Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 Or you could use Mr Muscle Sink Unblocker. I think you can unblock sinks with that.
Guy Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 If there's any water in your sink and you plan on taking off the U-bend, have something larger than a washing up bowl ready. I blocked my sink and even with a couple of inches of sink water it almost filled a bucket up. Also, if you bung a kettle full of boiling water into the sink, leave it for a few minutes, then you can feel along the pipes to see where the 'hot' ends and there's your blockage.
bridge too far Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 Maybe the blockage has been caused by 'frozen' fat?
Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Author Posted 9 January, 2009 Maybe the blockage has been caused by 'frozen' fat? It's in the bathroom. So man fat...
bridge too far Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 It's in the bathroom. So man fat... Euuuuuwwwww - I'm not takiing this conversation any further :smt078
Scummer Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 It's in the bathroom. So man fat... It's probably blocked by hair, soap scum etc. Not sure those sink unblocker products will get rid of hair.
Hatch Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 It's probably blocked by hair, soap scum etc. Not sure those sink unblocker products will get rid of hair. I bought a bottle of some unblocker product a few weeks ago to unblock the shower plughole. Poured it down, loads of funny noises and smoke came pouring out like some sort of mad scientists lab. Did the job though brilliantly.
bridge too far Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 It's probably blocked by hair, soap scum etc. Not sure those sink unblocker products will get rid of hair. They do work. I've got long hair and our shower sometimes gets blocked with my 'sheddings'. However, one time it blocked and then leaked into the floor / ceiling below. Turned out the plumber hadn't installed the drain-away under the shower properly when the house was built (it's only 5 years old). Some of the shower water was draining into the ceiling void
pingpong Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 stuff a jaycloth into the overflow (the hole 3/4 up the side of the sink that helps prevent overflowing). press another jaycloth onto the plughole and pump it, or a plunger is better if you have one. pump it as if you were doing CPR. this should give the blockage a bit of a push-pull and you might dislodge it that way. alternatively, go to the supermarket and try some sink unblocker, it's about £2-3 for a bottle and will deal with hairy flange.
saint_stevo Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 bend up a wire coat hanger, manufacturing a hook on the end and shove that down there and see what happens
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 Maybe call out a plumber? Just a thought... Right. They'll make an appointment to do the job then phone at 8.30 in the morning to tell you that their sink plunger has been delivered to the Isle of Wight and they aren't available until Easter as they are working away. To take an idea totally at random, of course.....
Scudamore Posted 9 January, 2009 Author Posted 9 January, 2009 Right all sorted now. Without the need to pay a plumber. One pair of old pants in the overflow. Scoop out skanking water. Pour in a pack of soda crystals. Pour in two kettles worth of boiling hot water. Leave to cool. Then scoop out more remainding water and start pumping away with another pair of pants on the plug hole. Flushed it out nicely. Then poured another kettle of boiling water down there just to check it was properly unblocked. Then got the shower on jet function and pointed that down there for a bit... Must buy a plunger...
TopGun Posted 10 January, 2009 Posted 10 January, 2009 I have to say your concerned webmates have looked after you Scu. Well worth a fiver.

Poured it down, loads of funny noises and smoke came pouring out like some sort of mad scientists lab. Did the job though brilliantly. Go to a plumbers merchants. The stuff I used was called D-Block. It's VERY strong stuff (don't inhale the fumes) but it does the the job.

Not from Baj or Steve Grant though...they just take my money and couldn't give a sh:t about my sink... Makes me sick...

Scudamore Posted 11 January, 2009 Author Posted 11 January, 2009 Do you think that might be what blocked it in the first place? There's much less splashback when you vom in the toilet

Can't imagine what a plumber would have charged you.
