Saint_clark Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 Rose has played better than him this season tbf. I think it's very close. Bertrand probably shades it defensively, equal offensively but Rose is more of a goal threat.
SaintBobby Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 Annoying injury for Bertrand...especially if hamstring....

Lastman73 Posted 8 October, 2016 Author Share Posted 8 October, 2016 How is Rose resting, when he is now on the pitch? He's the only on the pitch because Bertrand got injured. Otherwise he was being rested. My point is, our main left back gets injured because as usual the England camp prefer a lesser player who plays for a bigger club !! (Or not)! ART Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 Pathetic SUN journo still thinks Koeman is our manager and will be upset to lose Ryan in our coming matches against Burnley, Man City and Chelsea. One of the biggest lack of knowledge by a newspaper of late. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/1937718/ryan-bertrands-new-season-with-england-wrecked-by-hamstring-injury-after-just-19-minutes-of-malta-mauling/

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You cannot be right otherwise Fraser would have been in goal. No, Southgate watched Ryan at Leicester last week in commanding form and made him first pick on merit. Ryan is not fully match fit from his early season injury yet and the lush Wembley turf found him out.

Saint Billy Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 Rose because of his attacking threat, defensively not much in it.
SNSUN Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 Rose is quicker and gets forward more, Bertrand possibly better defensively, and more accurate at crossing. Rose probably gets the knod more because he plays with others in the England team. Lets be honest, if Luke could stay fit, I don't think either of them would get a look in that often. Shance Posted 8 October, 2016 Share Posted 8 October, 2016 (edited) Bertrand is a better LB than Rose. End of story really, but Shaw is better than both of them. Edited 8 October, 2016 by Shance

david in sweden Posted 9 October, 2016 Share Posted 9 October, 2016 I think it took a while (almost 8 years of loan-outs to 6 different clubs) for Ryan to recognise his own potential.... until he joined Saints permanently. During that time ....he clocked up almost 200 League games plus around 40 games at England youth level. Statisically +/- 250 games is " mid-career " for many players. Not saying that he lacks confidence, but he might never have expected to be England's first choice no.3 with that sort of past, but he always DAJF England when selected. I also have to "buy in" to the arguement that "big club " players - especially those in London - get "an edge" when they play for a top 4 side. Just look at Spurs. I think Bertrand is technically better than Rose, (although to his credit Rose has done better this season), and Bertrand is approaching that " late 20's age " when injuries take...just a little longer.... to shake off. Hopefully he can recover fitness and form soon, and may get into Southgate's squad for the next international break. As for the future?...if Wenger gets the England job...you can be sure both Bertrand and Rose will have to fight off Kieron Gibbs for the LB spot.
