England Squad October 2016

Pleased to see only two Saints in the squad, Forster and Bertrand. Many may have felt Charlie Austin deserved a place but its unlikely he would have actually got a game as whoever is England manager seems to prefer not to make too many changes to the squad, or the team.

The pride felt by fans in seeing one of their team in the national side isn't the excitement that is once was, maybe because club football matters more to most people or because the England team is only consistent in how much it consistently struggles in major competition.

We will have other players called up in this break but the more this squad can rest the better, as long as training continues.

This is a sad state of affairs tbh.

Christ, we haven't come THAT far yet have we? Maybe compile a list of how many current internationals we have in our squad altogether, of any nationality.

I don't think having "only" two players in the England squad is a sad state of affairs at all.

I think he meant it's sad that we don't want our players in the squad. Normally I'd want our players to get recognition but with our fixtures I'd rather they get a rest.

I lost interest in the england team after Keegan retired as a player. Since then I have been unable to relate to it because if the rejection of good players at unfashioanable clubs in favour of the likes of John Barnes, Ray Wilkins and the like who contribute nothing( John Barnes got something like 90 caps, on the back of that goal in Brazil, and 2 crosses in the defaet to Argentina.

The times when I have got more investedhave been the tournaments when the shoe in's have got injured and the team has suddenly improved. In Mexico Hodge, Ried and Bracewell came in for Wilkins and Robson and England got to the QTR's. In Italy, John Barnes injury lead to a change in formation and then the Semi's. Since then, nothing, although I did wan't them to lose after the way Venables and Hoddle ignored Le Tiss.

I did get excited when Rickie scored against Scotland, but that was still tempered by the way that Roy wouldn't put Lallana and Lambert on the pitch at the same time, despite thier understanding of each other's game.

For Euro 2016 only 3 CD's were included in the squad, none of whom would get in the Saints defence. The latest squad includes a 30 plus Man Utd substitute as Captain, and Lingard, another forward who has managed to look very average in a mediocre Man United team. This obsession with the big 6 has not worked in the past 30 years. I would much prefer to see players like Davies at Hull, who has put in a season and a bit of good performances in a struggling team, but Smalling and Cahill are picked instead.

After taking such joy in seeing players develop with us and break into the England side, and then seeing them leave, sometimes acrimoniously (Lallana) I simply do not get any fun from seeing our players in England colours anymore. It's just a sign that we are probably saying goodbye to them in the near future.

I meant the fact that he is pleased only 2 made it but ok.

What really tells me that the selection system is stupid is when a player who has been lauded for their performances at a "small" club doesn't get picked but the moment they move suddenly is good enough, and then players who are bit part players for "big" clubs who get called up England duty all the time move on to another club and then are never picked. Cleaverly being the prime example of this. That tells me all I need to know.

......that about sums it up for me, too. Southgate is only holding the fort for (goodness knows who?)...and if England lose games/points on his watch, those players will be tainted for life....along with those infamous players who missed vital penalties at major tournaments .. Oops sorry Gareth..didn't know you were listening.

Absolutely no interest in England until they actually start achieving something. That will happen sometime never while you have failures like Rooney in the team.

They actually make for quite a decent drinking game. 2 fingers every time the 'tater says, "poor cross from Walker."

Good times.

What's happens to the centre circle? Looks like someone has dug a pond. And the way the ball bobbles as it travels over it implies it's not been filled in very well.

There was an American football game at Wembley last weekend. The designated home side had their crest painted in the centre of the pitch, they have painted the grass green to remove it.

Christ. Thanks for info.

Every time England play at Wembley there seem to be artefacts left over from other sports.

So many sideways and backwards passes, oh and the odd long diagonal from Rooney.

We are miles behind Spain and Italy when it comes to even simple things like triangles and passing forward.

Italy only beat them 1-0. Expect that will get trotted out if hasn't already.

Drivel
