So when are we going to see Boufal play ?

I'm in no way suggesting we rush him back from injury but I'm getting so excited my circuits are gonna fry if I have to wait much longer to see him in action !!

Yeah, yeah ....... I now all about the perils of getting your hopes too high, that the new marquee signing will be our very own Ronaldo but it's too late now.

Redmond aside, who'd you get him in for? frankly if Redmond wasn't so out of sorts and not looking even remotely like a striker, I wouldn't have been surprised if boufal stayed on the bench for a no. of games.

I mean we don't even know where we'll play him, is it tadic's role or Redmond's? or both? I think a low risk game will be needed to experiment.

Are you kidding ? We spent £20+ million on him. I think we'll squeeze him in somewhere.

As we are often playing every 3 days or so and making 7 to 8 changes per game, I reckon fitting him in wont be the slightest problem :)

well i guess its true, we do have a sh*t load of games. anyway I'm glad he's coming back while we're doing so well, otherwise the pressure on him to change our fortunes would of been a tad too much IMO. and NFS, I was thinking more about easing him into the team and the pl as a whole as he seems to have a slight build and he's also just getting back from a long term injury (4 months?) giving him more chance to adapt regardless of his price tag (which btw I thought was 16m)

Agree with all that. I'm certain they won't just throw him the deep end and start him against Burnley. Returnees from long term injury usually get 60 odd mins with the under 23's to assess them, followed by a couple of first team appearances off the bench.

I think think the £16 mil becomes £21-22 million after hefty add ons and performance bonuses ..... still a bargain for the next Ronaldo ;)

Redmond was bought to replace Juanmi only and it was Boufal for Mane.

Redmond's started twice as many games as Juanmi already. They've both come in as potential starters, not to replace individuals.

Anyway, like everyone I'm excited to see Boufal. That extra attacking option would have come in useful at the hour mark today - Tadic for Boufal or vice versa would have given us a fresh injection going forward.

Don't see Boufal getting 90 minute games for a while yet anyway....even if he is match fit.

The prospect of having Redmond and /or Long coming off the bench at 60 minutes must be a nightmare for opposing defenders with tiring legs ----don't you think ?

Make sure that we don't need to score more by then.

On past experience, I'd have expected Boufal to play an u-23 game first. Their next game is on Friday of next week (14 Oct) against Arsenal u-23 at Meadow Park, Borehamwood where Arsenal Ladies and the youth teams play but with the Burnley game on the Sunday, I wouldn't think he'd be involved in both. After that it's Inter Milan the following Thursday and Man City on the Sunday. Obviously, Puel has options, including giving him limited game time to begin with but there's not much point trying to guess.

It reminds me of being one of the select band of travelling fans who saw Charlie George play in his first season at Southampton when he joined as an injured player and Laurie Mac brought him on as a sub at Highbury. Hopefully, Boufal will have a longer Saints' career than Charlie.

Redmond's been doing really well.

I think Tadic plays best on the left, so maybe Boufal on the right.

Boufal played majority of last season on the left wing, and we've already seen Tadic spend a lot of time on the right when he's not playing centrally, even though he is probably best on the left.

I think Boufal is intended to be our creative "number 10" point of the diamond, in the hole, playmaker, etc. Though I wouldn't be surprised to see him switching around between striker and midfielder roles as Redmond does.

You are not allowed to make things up on here so who told you that? Redmond was on our radar for ages but Norwich wouldn't let him go or wanted more I know not which but we were sniffing around him long before Juanmi had become an issue for fans let alone the club.

The front three are given a lot of creative freedom and they switch positions throughout the game. All three of Puel's current first choice three of Austin, Redmond & Tadic spend periods of the game on the left, right and centre. West Ham in particular struggled to cope with the rotation within the game and didn't appear to know who to mark.

I would imagine who to mark is going to become a major issue for teams once Boufal is starting , Boufal Tadic/Redmond with Austin waiting to pounce is going to make interesting watching TBH

DO you want me to dig out those threads here mourning Redmond as "Mane replacement" until acquisition of Boufal?

HK Saint is correct and SB was a replacement for Mane. The formation has changed since we sold mane. Boufal will play primary as a no 10 but also rotated across the front 3 during games. He is the missing link which is crucial for the diamond.

Redmond is a player we've tracked for years (like many others) and we stepped it up when Juanmi wasn't needed and Norwich were relegated.

Would Tadic then move to the left-side of the diamond "shuttle" midfield positions?

He is not going to take the place of our actual striker is he

Of course it will happen. Not always as we will rotate a lot, but a front 3 of Tadic, Redmond and Boufal will played at times. Wouldn't surprise me if it becomes Puel's preferred front 3.

I bet it wont. not starting games anyway. Unless Rodrigues, Long and Austin are all injured.

You think our 3 best forwards at passing and moving their way through tight marking in the final third will never be played together unless forced to by injuries? Interesting. Why?

I just see us having 6 attacking players and 3 attacking positions in our team.

Depending on form, fitness etc I can see Puel playing any three at a given time

Low bar; embrace the new Kloppism, it's all about the anti-possession football .. it's all about the goals scored!

Play: Tadic/Redmond/Boufal/Austin/Long/SomebodyElse all at the same time .... Watford/Palace/WBA/Stoke/Exerton won't know what's hit them.
