Took Kwsaint junior back to uni yesterday and took in Camb Utd v Accrington. Which turned out to be a cracker. The Cambridge winner on 80 mins was a worldie - volley from a 40 yard pass that nearly took the keepers head off. Accrington had a penalty saved on 90 mins after a defender was sent off. From the resulting throw-in the ball was crossed and punched off the line by a defender. The keeper saved the second penalty and Cambridge finished the game with 9 men. Bedlam as you can imagine. Brilliant for a neutral.

Which got me thinking. Apart from penalty shootouts, has there ever been a Saints game where two penalties have been saved. The best that I could come up with was a game in 73-74 when Eric Martin saved a penalty (against QPR I think), then saved the rekick after having been adjudged to have moved.

Any ideas?

I remember 2 penalties were missed against Watford a few years ago but not sure if they were saved or not....

Last season your right- think it was Berahino for WBA missing it?

Against Watford, McGoldrick passed the ball to Richard Lee, then later on that half, Paul Wootton blasted the second spot kick straight at him.

Seem to remember a home game where we missed two penalties in the first half in the "dark days"

Correct ...Season we got relegated to League one if I remember correctly.

Paul Wotton & Stern John??

I thought Paul Wotton took both.

Definitely McGoldrick... I remember the woman behind moaning like a goodin' as she always did about him.

It was also that muppet Trevor Kettle reffing the game I think.

David McGoldrick.

Yeah Mcgoldrick and Wotton, both inside the first 15 mins I think. Watford won 3-0 in the end, unbelievable to think how **** we were then

As soon as I saw the thread this came back instantly. Terry Venables was the penalty taker. Was it as late as 73-74 as I thought it would be the season before?

2-2 draw. 19/1/74.

We still had designs on getting into Europe that season. :mcinnes:
