eurosaint Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 I noticed that we had a Football league ref yesterday instead of the usual EPL ones (little bloke whose name escapes me!). In contrast to prima donnas like Mike Dean, Clattenberg and that prat Lee Mason, I thought that he adopted a low key attitude and let the game flow. I have no recollection of any particular errors either so well done to him ! I think that maybe the EPL should expand their list and clamp down on 'look at me' type behaviour ! Just an observation. allsa001 Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 Possibly because I watched a game on a not so clear stream, compared to watching the league games on Ruya. I am in complete agreement with you. I didn't really noticing the refereeing at all in yesterdays match, was a delightful surprise.
Whitey Grandad Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 James Adcock. He was good. Communicated well with the players and kept the game flowing without too much fuss. I even heard him shouting instructions to Martina about where to take the throw in at one stage. Mind you, the crowd was pretty quiet at times. http://www.thefa.com/news/2014/aug/international-football-is-where-players-aspire-to-be-officials-are-no-different
John Boy Saint Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 There were 2 hearty coming together challenges I noted that were straight from the Football League last night, that he just let ride as the players laid in a heap on the ground. Battenburg and Dean would have blown up and been handing out a university lecture as to why 2 players closing on each other at speed are not allowed to bump into each other for any reason and given the the free kick to the "superior" team....... Oh and a yellow thrown in for good measure.
Ex Ringwood Saint Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 On a similar note was impressed with our Euro ref's from Germany the other night- of course the penalty helped, but compared to premier ref's thought more was allowed to flow, and there were fewer 'soft' free kicks- Back on Sunday v Swansea, there seemed to be loads of small comings together where players fell in a heap and earned a free kick...So frustrating... Should have booked Reed for a late tackle early on, still not sure about the penalty (particularly intrigued that we were allowed to have Long treated off the pitch ahead of the ball for the penalty), other than that, low key game with mostly low key incidents, though there were a few flying boots when we were defending near the end. Looked like Long having crawled off the pitch told the ref to get on with the penalty because he was off the pitch and not interfering with play. If he's off the field of play there's no reason to delay further.
Pamplemousse Posted 22 September, 2016 Share Posted 22 September, 2016 Interestingly, Lee Probert, who I thought was one of the better Premier League referees, has only taken charge of EFL games since his return from a leg injury. Nobody seems to know why he isn't back in the top flight.

I know that, you know that, the ref seemed to be making an issue of it, probably a bit confused that he didn't take 2 steps back onto the pitch to then lay down

Maybe the ref was asking whether a substitution was necessary? In any case there is the question as to whether their presence might affect matters on the pitch.
