The Fat Controller Posted 21 September, 2016 Share Posted 21 September, 2016 Hi just thought this was worth sharing with you Ryanair still have flights Stansted to Verona for £60 return. Rail fare to Milan is around £25 and takes just over an hour each way hotels cheaper in Verona If anyone needs to get to Stansted for 0645 flight on Weds AM I can take 3 from Swindon/ Newbury in the car ( yes I know game is on Thursday!) Great tip! Always pays to make use of local knowledge if you can. When I went to the World Cup in Germany in 2006, I flew out to Frankfurt Hahn from Stansted with Ryanair. The queues for the bus to Frankfurt were absolutely massive as that is where everyone wanted to going; the queue for the bus to Mainz however was virtually dead. Got that bus and a train to Frankfurt which was really easy and stress-free.
Gemmel Posted 21 September, 2016 Share Posted 21 September, 2016 I posted on the other thread but also London Stansted to Turin - Still £15 each way (Ryan Air) and then a 45 minute train journey to Milan at 25 euros return

Stanstead - Turin looks like a good option. Gone up to £52 return on Ryanair, but can't complain at that price. Does anyone have a good website for train booking - also which station in Milan to go to, or does it not really matter?

Trenitalia is the oficial site http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en This one seems quite friendly but I've never used them. https://www.trainline.eu/ Milan station depends on where you are staying and when you want to get to the stadium. I suspect that your option of station depends on your staion of origin. I've never been but we are told that the metro/tram system is extensive and relatively cheap. I believe there's a fast 1hr train or 1hr 30min-ish, will check that out.
Matty's Caddy Posted 21 September, 2016 Share Posted 21 September, 2016 How easy is it to charter a plane? I believe Branson started by chartering his own when everybody got bumped off a flight.. Must be plenty of people looking for a flight tonight....

Over the years I've done several England away games and to avoid high flight and hotel prices have often used this method going via somewhere and taking a train. It saves money and actually makes more of a trip of it, not so good if you like to be bussed in and out travel club style but for an adventure I'd say flying to Bologna, Turin, Genoa or Verona, all under 2 hours train from Milano Central and you get a chance to visit somewhere else en route. worth pre-booking your train on Trentitalia for cheapest prices. Plenty of cheaper air fares for those with the time to plan and don't mind a train journey at the other end.
