Lighthouse Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 Would be daft to get rid of Jay just when he looks to be finding his old form. If we're getting rid of anyone it should be Long but with injuries as they are I'd hang on to everyone until summer.
saint lard Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 He wants to go....this deal has been on the cards for a while. Partly due to Puel and not getting game time. This rotation system is upsetting many at the club. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

shurlock Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 The guy is a dinosaur. £10M relative to the fees banded about at the moment would be a ludicrously bad deal. We could buy three alan shearers with that.
Lighthouse Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 We could buy three alan shearers with that. 111 Ricardo Fullers.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 Spurs in for him now Far too early for Spurs to be in for him
Greenridge Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 South Today said Sunderland bid for him today.

SuperSAINT Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 not in line up tonight. Injured? Yes. Went off vs Liverpool.
Lets B Avenue Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 No he doesn't. You're speaking absolute rubbish, as per usual. He wants to join his favourite manager. Nigel Adkins.
Window Cleaner Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 Rondon is being chased for £28-30m by China Ah well all these overpriced sales to China helps whittle down the trade gap I suppose. Tit for tat, they sell us plastic crap and we sell them plastic footballers.
Donatello Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 According to Ian Dennis..... "West Brom wanted a striker and a defender. They were interested in Jay Rodriguez and I think the player would be keen. He needs to get away but Southampton are insistent he would stay put." Huh? Why? :S
sifter Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 Is JRod injured? Didn't catch the press conference so not sure if his absence tonight is relevant.
Toadhall Saint Posted 31 January, 2017 Posted 31 January, 2017 Is JRod injured? Didn't catch the press conference so not sure if his absence tonight is relevant. Been injured since the Liverpool game.
SuperSAINT Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 Palace interested: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/crystal-palace-weighing-up-summer-10272032
Katalinic Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 Palace interested: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/crystal-palace-weighing-up-summer-10272032 He will move back up North.
spyinthesky Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 Palace interested: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/crystal-palace-weighing-up-summer-10272032 I feel really sorry for Jay as his career has not progressed since the injury at Man City I think the club has dealt with his injury well but if I was the Manager I would let him go and try to invest any transfer fee in a new forward
S-Clarke Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 I've always loved Jay as a player, but he's definitely lost something since his injury. He doesn't seem as mobile to me and looks a lot more leggy and certainly not as quick along the ground. I think it's pretty clear he'll be going this window, hope he gets a club better than WBA though. Wonder if he could turn back up at Burnley.
SuperSAINT Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 He will move back up North. Should go back to Burnley, funded by the sale of Keane to Everton.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 Watch him leave, find form elsewhere and come back to haunt us.
beatlesaint Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 Watch him leave, find form elsewhere and come back to haunt us. Jay looks more than just a player out of form though, sad to say that injury has taken something away from him, he just looks immobile.
cellone Posted 21 April, 2017 Posted 21 April, 2017 I think that he needs it to click. Once he has the knack of it again it will be second career for him.
WALK DMC Posted 22 April, 2017 Posted 22 April, 2017 Jay Rod was most successful for Saints when he played on the left left side of the three in a 4-2-3-1 formation. That was the position that he also played in his one appearance for England. Since returning from injury he hasn't played there, but it would be good to see him tried in that role before the end of the season. I felt that it suits his attributes and running with the ball froma deeper position was one of his strengths. I appreciate that he may no longer have the fitness levels to play there, but before we give up on him completely and flog him in the summer, it would be nice to try him in the role where he had so much success. Now that Saints play 4-2-3-1 he could be utilized there again. Unlikely to happen, but would be bad news if a new club succeeded by playing him in his best position because we didn't try it.

That was his best position, but Poch's system was really fluid. His starting position was left-wing but he would also interchange with the other players in attack so Sir Rickie would drop deep and Jay would bomb on into his position too.

His starting position was left-wing but he would also interchange with the other players in attack so Sir Rickie would drop deep and Jay would bomb on into his position too. Remember when poch first got here, he said he wanted Rodriguez to play a lot closer to lambert but from the left. It worked a treat for both players Similar I guess to dele alli this season, playing a lot closer to Harry kane

I agree, although with such an intelligent player as Gabbiadini, such a style could be effective again. I still believe Jay Rod running from deeper positions was a strength that we miss as Puel always plays him as the main target.

It worked a treat for both players Similar I guess to dele alli this season, playing a lot closer to Harry kane Yeah. It worked really well as Rickie could both spot & play a lovely through-ball to Jay has he ran through from the wide-left position. I know we had some stinkers under Poch, but primarily I remember how fluid we were up top. Matt Law at the Telegraph seemed to think Spurs might still be interested in Jay a few months ago.
Saint IQ Posted 22 April, 2017 Posted 22 April, 2017 He will go to Spurs as their back up striker/wide player
benjii Posted 22 April, 2017 Posted 22 April, 2017 The diamond we played earlier in the season would have been perfect for a fit Jay Rod. As it is, though, it's hard to see him getting a run in the first team so probably best for everyone for him to move on if there is genuine interest.

Kingsland Red Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 A good move for all concerned. Although academic now, JRod, Long, Tadic and Boufal should be having a long hard look at themselves and their stats for last season.
RobM Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 Although academic now, JRod, Long, Tadic and Boufal should be having a long hard look at themselves and their stats for last season. Agreed, with the slight exception that I'd afford Boufal some time to adjust, as we did Mane. Mane was far better in his second season; Boufal needs to be the same.
simo Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 Although academic now, JRod, Long, Tadic and Boufal should be having a long hard look at themselves and their stats for last season. Jrod's mins per league goal is actually decent
saintadam Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 Snatch their hands off. You make it sound like we are ripping them off. 12 million is a fair price in this market.
Window Cleaner Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 You make it sound like we are ripping them off. 12 million is a fair price in this market. Indeed, we paid 12 million for what turned out to be bit part players last summer. In today's player market 12 million doesn't get you much.
Heisenberg Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 He scored 5 league goals in the equivalent of 10 games. Badly treated by Puel and dont blame him for wanting out
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 He scored 5 league goals in the equivalent of 10 games. Badly treated by Puel and dont blame him for wanting out Pule is not here now
OldNick Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 He scored 5 league goals in the equivalent of 10 games. Badly treated by Puel and dont blame him for wanting out He was correctly treated by Puel as he was poor. He scored the luckiest goal against Sunderland and that stopped us selling him and getting in somebody sharper, as the fans were up in arms that we were going to sell him

doddisalegend Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 5 league goals in the equivalent of under 10 league games says different More minutes and less goals than Austin and Gabbi....says otherwise
the saint in winchester Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 Told he can go for the right fee, says the SSN report. Now the haggling starts. We value him at £12M. West Brom value him at (insert value).
pluto Posted 20 June, 2017 Posted 20 June, 2017 £12M upfront with another £3M add ons seems a fair price.
