Batman Posted 12 September, 2016 Share Posted 12 September, 2016 we should win. although, they got a fortunate point against chelsea and may take comfort from that. Baird of the land Posted 12 September, 2016 Share Posted 12 September, 2016 It's pretty vital that we win this to Get the season going. Afterwards we've got 2 away so we want already be on 5 points. It won't be easy, as Swansea whilst erratic aren't that bad a side. I'd start long and hojberg and use Jrod as an impact sub otherwise sat team. I don't manager abandoning the formation yet sadly. I couldnt give a toss about the PL, I'd take relegation with a EL cup final any day. I really cant get this excitement about finishing 12th, if we go down, we try and come back up, there is still a game every week (more) but what is it, people cant be without watching the likes of Arsenal and Utd? I really dont get this attraction to other teams.

SaintAndy14 Posted 12 September, 2016 Share Posted 12 September, 2016 Although we could pass off the two away defeats as unfortunate (Mourinho on his OT debut was always going to get them fired up for it and Arsenal away was daylight robbery), failing to get at least one win against Watford, Sunderland and Swansea at home would signal a very poor start. All 3 seem fairly poor teams this season.

All 3 seem fairly poor teams this season. Pretty much sums things up. I'm of the opinion that if we're 10 games in with only 1 win then we need to act fast and get rid of Puel. Sadly, I could see the club persisting for 3/4 of the season and then making a change with 10 games to go in an attempt to avoid relegation. Better to act quickly than let it drag on. USA SaintsFan Posted 12 September, 2016 Share Posted 12 September, 2016 I am hopefully confident. We have played decent all four games thus far, but what has let us down is bad finishing and frankly some bad luck. If we can fix that we should be a solid side. Score one goal, and others will come. Put in a performance similar to the Arsenal match, and we should win comfortably.

So if you are doing poorly in he league you cant win any other competitions, think again mate. I dont necessarily expect us to win the EL, my point is that we should prioritise it over the league. God help us if we get to the last home game again BS (with a chance of qualifying) and we play a weakened team because we want to move up to 14th in the PL. notnowcato Posted 13 September, 2016 Share Posted 13 September, 2016 They're pretty crap but if you don't take your chances you can lose any game. We've created reasonable if not great chances in two home games, and had 2 goals, 1 very lucky. So something has to change. We're suffering from having off-form Long again. Feels like we banked on his form just continuing from last season despite him never having proven that. I like him, useful striker to have but there have been a lot of games like Arsenal. They weren't half chances, that was 2 he should score and it cost us. It's too early to talk of relegation, anything could still be achieved this season but a draw or loss against swansea and the pressure will ramp up. Don't really think the board are the sort of set up to take action like that though however fans get. All seems to be long term planning, no sackings yet but I suppose they haven't been tested have they. Expectations of Long should be that he gets 12 to 15 goals per season, if he has a full season and doesn't net that amount he's had a poor season. He's not an Aguero or an Ibrahimovic, he's Shane Long and he's ours, he tries his little a**e off for us and he will get goals just not at the same rate as the elite strikers. I saw enough in the Arsenal game to know that relegation really wont be a concern for us. I fully expect 3 points from the Swansea game but I'd take a win against Prague and a point from Swansea if it was offered now.

Baird of the land Posted 16 September, 2016 Share Posted 16 September, 2016 As well as Martina played, i'd start Cedric on sunday. He'll be fresher and that was purely the logic of rotating as they did yesterday(which i hoped they would do). Forster Cedric Fonte van Dijk Bertrand Romeu Davis Clasie Tadic Redmond Rodriguez He made 7 changes yesterday for a reason, that reason probably to save the majority of his preferred XI for the Swansea game. Not to start the majority of players that played on Thursday twice in quick succession. In today's press conference he hinted Rodriguez may be a doubt, so Long or Austin in for him. I think that's probably right. I would expect Hojbjerg and JWP to be replaced and obviously for Fonte and Bertrand to come back in. Personally, unless Martina is feeling after effects from Thursday I would start him over Cedric. I think Cedric needs a kick up the arse. He could come back in against Palace. Probably one of Long or Austin, with Redmond in the accompanying forward role - the only caveat would be if Redmond impressed enough in the "10" position last night to replace Tadic. If Rodriguez in ruled out then I would expect it to be Long and Redmond because of how tired Austin looked.
Batman Posted 16 September, 2016 Share Posted 16 September, 2016 Puel's presser Good confidence around the training ground we have to do good work to win our games we have had a lot of disappointment and frustration in our games so far a draw or a loss has not been good for us and we deserved more important to take all games in consideration, all the players in the squad are important this month has a lot of games it is impossible for all the players to play all the games no problem for me in changing the team players must keep their good attitude premier league is difficult, so many good players and teams 1 player can make the difference and swansea are a good side with good players they also had the week off Sigurdsson and Loriente are good players It is important that we play our game and concentrate Austin played most of the game last night, he must recover well we have different solutions on the bench, it is an interesting situation Charlie scored as did Rodriguez Shane had a good game, good running with an assist it is not all about the offensive players to score, we have to score as a team at my different clubs, there have been about 15-16 different goal scorers each season Jay may be a doubt for tomorrow it will be important to get a win against swansea, we have to keep the good work going this is a good challenge to be here, I concentrate on my team and players this is a very exciting season, we have many games and the players have to learn to cope with that
doddisalegend Posted 16 September, 2016 Share Posted 16 September, 2016 BBC build up http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37331445 interesting stat I thought ◾Only Chelsea (seven) have allowed their opponents fewer shots on target than Southampton (10) in the first four matches of the season, but Saints have conceded six goals. We've allowed the opposition only 10 shots on goal but let in 6 goals (of course three of those have been pens). that stat kind of gives me hope that if we can cut out giving away pens we should be pretty hard to beat. Saint in NZ Posted 17 September, 2016 Share Posted 17 September, 2016 It can be argued that the problem is still a lack of a recognised goal-scorer. Looking at Premier League goals only, Long has 43 in 206, JRod has 22 in 82, Austin has 19 in 45 to compare with Pelle with 23 in 68 and Mane with 23 in 70. Austin appears to be the only one with a half-way acceptable level. However, the Saints made up for the shortfall last season by many players chipping in. Not sure that we are any worse off than last season so just need all the team to start believing they can repeat it. It may be that Austin and JRod aren't fit enough to start this game but would like to see them given a chance.
