Pass the Dutchie Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 I'll be happy with a point (but obviously hope for more!). 1-1
farawaysaint Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 We shall see. I am cautiously optimistic for this one.
VivaElTri Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 We have had good results vs Arsenal recently hope that can continue
Lastman73 Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 3 points all the way Davis and Redmond to score !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Baird of the land Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Hoping we revert 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. Dreading a re-run of the abysmal Utd game if he sets up again as he did there with the diamond. Forster/Mccarthy Cedric Fonte Van Dijk Bertrand/Targett Clasie Romeu Davis Tadic Jrod Long
Sour Mash Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 2-0 loss if playing the diamond What will the score be without the diamond?
Mattio Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 3-1 loss for this one I reckon [emoji58] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
eddie Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 (edited) Given injuries.. Likely team: ----------------Forster----------------- Cedric---Fonte---Van Dijk---Bertrand --------------Romeu------------------- ---------Hojbjerg--Davis-------------- ---------------Tadic-------------------- -----Redmond---------Long---------- Or try some changes, taking into account Arsenal's poor defense: ----------------Forster----------------- Cedric---Fonte---Van Dijk---Bertrand --------------Romeu------------------- ---------Hojbjerg--Tadic-------------- ---------------Redmond---------------- -----Rodriguez---------Long---------- McCarthy and Targett stepping up if Ryan/Forster still aren't fit. ally_uk Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 I just cannot see us beating Arsenal with this stupid formation.... Wenger will know how to counter it off the bat im going for a 4-0 hammering to the Arseoles
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Probably be 0-0, we can't score and assuming our defence hold firm.
Chris27687 Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 We'll lose - hopefully we play well at times so we can take something positive from it.
SuperSAINT Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Probably be 0-0, we can't score and assuming our defence hold firm. That's a big ask!!! The game at the Emirates from 3 seasons back still haunts me! They looked considerably better against Watford than we did!
Supersubpuckett Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 It will be a bit of a lesson for puel - convincing 4-0 defeat
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 I'm dreading going tbh. Don`t then..simple
Saint-Fred Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 The diamond might work better against a better side- revert to pace up front so Long back in, and hopefully we might get some breakaway chances for Redmond& Long . I'd expect them to create chances though- last years nil nil was down to Forster being unbelievable so I reckon 3-2.

I said a long time ago that starting a season in the Prem for the 1st time without either Vic or Morgan concerned me. Nothing has changed. We are learning about the diamond as we go, so let's see how we do. Would love a goal or 2 just to give us some belief.
HKsaint Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Hopefully a big loss will convince Puel to abandon diamond: 6:0 loss
ericb Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Can't see anything other than a defeat here, hopefully nothing to humiliating and with Bertrand (hopefully) back i expect our defence to be stronger. Can't see us scoring though so probably go for a 2-0 Arsenal win.
Saint_Ash Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Hopefully a big loss will convince Puel to abandon diamond: 6:0 loss Or hopefully a big win will mean it's clicked. Hoping for you team to lose is a bit mental.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 3-1 Arsenal, Hopefully we'll go with more of a 4-1-4-1 and hit them on the break. Mix up the diamond a bit.....I don't want to see 2 up top. or a 4-4-1-1 which we used quite a lot last season. --------------Forster--------------- Cedric - Fonte - VVD - Bertrand ---------------Romeu---------------- -----Hojbjerg-Clasie-Davis -------------Redmond--------------- ---------------Long---------------
nta786 Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Anything better than a 2-0 defeat is a bonus, even a 1-0 one :/ We have had very good results at home, not as good away, and even last season at the Emirates we did get destroyed and only got a point for poor finishing and amazing goalkeeping from Forster. My prediction will be 3-1 to Arsenal, Wenger's experience will overcome Puel's tactics. I'm hoping Boufal can get a run out too, though think Arsenal will come too early for him.

I'd expect them to create chances though- last years nil nil was down to Forster being unbelievable so I reckon 3-2. From what i've seen so far diamond looks like it is much worse against better sides as you are left with 2 up top as well as a 10 and far less able to drop successfully into a defensive shape when you don't have the ball.
sandwichsaint Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Probably be 0-0, we can't score and assuming our defence hold firm. I called 0-0 for the two home games, damn defence can't keep a clean sheet and our pesky forwards keep scoring one per game, events dear boy, events ... I'll take a 1-1 here.
SuperSAINT Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Anyone know how bad Forester's injury is? Hoping to be fit for this game.
Saint Billy Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Don`t then..simple I might have a moan about them from time to time but I still support them through thick and thin contrary to what you may think.
Pamplemousse Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 I'm not expecting a positive result. Get this one out of the way and roll on the three home games in a row

The whole point of the diamond is to open up the mid table sides who come for a draw. I don't expect to see it against Arsenal to be honest. Or any other better side come to that.
jamesfp1 Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 This is where it will all fall into place.

I don't expect to see it against Arsenal to be honest. Or any other better side come to that. See I'm not sure it is, as the lower teams who park the bus are the ones which you need to get high and wide against, and get in behind, I don't think the diamond is suited to good or bad sides

Dark Munster Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 This is where it will all fall into place. Either that or to pieces.
Yorkshire Saint Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 As long as Arsenal don't mind us playing with 12 players, I like this. It's the double diamond , deal with it lol
Saints foreva Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 An early Arsenal goal and things could get ugly.
Dr. Kucho Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Is Boufal fit enough to play? Thought he was injured.
Pamplemousse Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 To be honest, I was expecting us to get smashed before we beat them 4-0. Who knows, maybe the same thing will happen again. Where's the build up thread for that match, what were we all thinking then?
Heisenberg Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 3-0 unless Puel has used the international break to understand the premiership

Pamplemousse Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 I agree with MLG, and if you're going to cheaply insult our manager, at least get the facts correct
hypochondriac Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 We will probably lose but I don't care as long as we get a performance and a sign that we are developing something. If that doesn't happen then the sooner we ditch the diamond the better.
Saint in NZ Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 On paper it looks like a heavy defeat but how often in the PL has that gone awry. It all depends on the belief of the players. The manager can only do so much. A bit off to write off Puel yet. We might get a pleasant surprise yet!
Pamplemousse Posted 5 September, 2016 Posted 5 September, 2016 Has anyone told you that no positive comments are allowed on the main board?
