Colinjb Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Just come through on my phone. Errrr, really? Our reserve keeper who Palace were by all accounts happy to lose?
Saint_Ash Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Haha! I just got it off twitter as well. Not a bad back up we have then.
SuperSAINT Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 It was the EFL Trophy penalty miss that confirmed he was England material
Saint-Armstrong Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Here we go, just one injury away from a start for Stuart Taylor now...
SuperSAINT Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Dave Watsons influence? He's not part of the set-up now is he?
SuperSAINT Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Here we go, just one injury away from a start for Stuart Taylor now... I consider Taylor as understudy to Harry Lewis - It works for me
LaptopSaint Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Good for Alex - and great moment for SFC.
Stu Man Do Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Does this now stop the age old argument on here of having two international standard Gks in case of injury ;-)?
beatlesaint Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Wow, never saw that coming ! good on him tho
richardc Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 I know we don't buy internationals we only make them - but that was ridiculously quick even for saints
igsey Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 I'm surprised but it makes sense when you think about it, assuming Sam wanted 3 goalkeepers: Hart Forster Heaton Obviously Forster has hurt himself in training, so the possible replacements would be Butland (injured), Pickford (injured), Foster (retired from internationals), Green (sh*te), Ruddy (old and likely to have retired by the World Cup)... I guess McCarthy was next in line.
percy windham Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Ridiculous big club bias at its worst again. Hasn't even played a prem game for his club.
stevegrant Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 He's not part of the set-up now is he? Nope. Looking at who the other options are, and to be fair, there aren't that many: Leicester - Kasper Schmeichel, Ron-Robert Zieler, Ben Hamer Arsenal - Petr Cech, David Ospina, Emiliano Martinez, Matt Macey Tottenham - Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Pau Lopez Man City - Claudio Bravo, Wily Caballero Man United - David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone Saints - Fraser Forster, Alex McCarthy, Stuart Taylor West Ham - Adrian, Darren Randolph, Raphael Spiegel Liverpool - Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius, Alex Manninger Stoke - Jack Butland, Shay Given, Jakub Haugaard, Lee Grant Chelsea - Thibaut Courtois, Asmir Begovic Everton - Maarten Stekelenburg, Joel Robles Swansea - Lukasz Fabianski, Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Mark Birighitti, Gerhard Tremmel Watford - Heurelho Gomes, Costel Pantilimon, Rene Gilmartin, Giedrius Arlauskis West Brom - Ben Foster, Boaz Myhill, Jack Rose Palace - Steve Mandanda, Wayne Hennessey, Julian Speroni Bournemouth - Artur Boruc, Adam Federici, Ryan Allsop Sunderland - Vito Mannone, Jordan Pickford Burnley - Tom Heaton, Nick Pope, Paul Robinson (yes, that one) Middlesbrough - Victor Valdes, Brad Guzan, Dimi Konstantopoulos Hull - David Marshall, Alan McGregor, Eldin Jakupovic So of 61 goalkeepers registered in PL squads this season, only 15 are English. Of those, only Forster, Butland, Foster and Heaton are first-choice for their club - plus Joe Hart, assuming he'll be first pick for Torino. Butland is currently injured, and I don't think the FA are willing to consider Ben Foster anymore after he made himself unavailable for selection a few years ago. Jordan Pickford might have been selected, but he's had to withdraw from the U21s through injury, and with Hart pretty much a shoo-in to play on Sunday, it's hardly worth bringing in Paul Robinson at the age of 38, who hasn't played for England since 2007. Fairly slim pickings, with all that in mind, I guess...
once_bitterne Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Their must be quite a few English keeper starting in the Championship though.

New Forest Steve Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 I know we don't buy internationals we only make them - but that was ridiculously quick even for saints Got be worth 10 mil now [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
merrimd Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Really surprised we have let this happen. England have already sent our first choice back injured, it makes no sense to then send them our second choice. This could come back and bite us!!!!
Window Cleaner Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Is Watson still the England goalkeeping coach ?
trousers Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Dave Watsons influence? He's not part of the set-up now is he? Nope. Is Watson still the England goalkeeping coach ? Keep up....
wild-saint Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 so let me get this right. Can we consider our transfer business even better as we also signed an England International. Are people less whelmed?
The9 Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 so let me get this right. Can we consider our transfer business even better as we also signed an England International. Are people less whelmed? We signed a non-international and turned him into an international and hiked his value in a matter of weeks, pretty much the plan generally.
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Should get him a transfer to Scousehampton in the summer...
david in sweden Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 so......?..is McCarthy really much better than anone thinks?...or is Sam really desperate? Er.. don't bother to answer that .
The9 Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Should get him a transfer to Scousehampton in the summer... Hasn't he got to score against them at Anfield first?
shurlock Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Hasn't he got to score against them at Anfield first? You mean like Lallana, Lambert and Clyne did?
Master Bates Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Is it true there's a clause in his contract saying we have to pay more if he gets an England call up? 3rd comment http://m.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/crystal-palace-fans-surprised-by-former-goalkeeper-8217-s-england-call-up/story-29676695-detail/story.html
Badger Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 Good luck to McCarthy but the fact England have to call up a GK who seldom featured last season and is our current reserve goes to show the limited options of quality available now.
Mallagroth Posted 1 September, 2016 Posted 1 September, 2016 lol well he has got to at least be happy at his decision to sign for us. Good sign for our teams England eligible players going forward...
Lighthouse Posted 2 September, 2016 Posted 2 September, 2016 You mean like Lallana, Lambert and Clyne did? Wasn't it Clyne, Lovren and Mané who scored at Anfield? The other two were at St Mary's. They need Pelle and J Rod for the full set if my memory serves me correctly.
Badger Posted 2 September, 2016 Posted 2 September, 2016 lol well he has got to at least be happy at his decision to sign for us. Good sign for our teams England eligible players going forward... Bet JWP is sat by the phone...
Mutt Le Tiss Posted 2 September, 2016 Posted 2 September, 2016 Got be worth 10 mil now [emoji6] Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk Liverpool are keeping tabs on him I believe :-)
david in sweden Posted 2 September, 2016 Posted 2 September, 2016 Alex in the England squad-----WOW !...even if he never has to put on the gloves, it's tripled his valution already !
krissyboy31 Posted 2 September, 2016 Posted 2 September, 2016 Play in the JPT/FLT for Saints, get an international call up!! Lambert, Lallana, Fonte. Schneiderlin, Antonio and fastest of all McCarthy.
John Boy Saint Posted 3 September, 2016 Posted 3 September, 2016 I thought Pickford looked pretty good last weekend, but I guess he has had a call from Mr Moyes to fall over and feel a bit queezy as Sunderland have injury issues with Mannone.
