Puel

9-3

They would not have appointed Erwin without Ronald. Ronald put his backroom team together, Ronald appointed Erwin Koeman to join him at Southampton.

My recommendation to you is don't try and act the clever fu ck and correct me when you're thick as mince.

And Koeman would not have joined with out Erwin you utter tool...

You act as clever as fu k on here coming across all smart ar se but in truth its all in your limited mind...sad! your delusions of grandeur are pathetic...

Your acceptance of this will be better for you in the end, you need to come to terms with the fact that most think your just a gobby keyboard warrior with a chip

Going to put you on ignore now because you are a Di ck

If it is true that Ronald wouldn't have joined without Erwin (which is debatable) then that's the point I was making, completely proved, by you. Ronald assembled and appointed the backroom staff that came in with him. Ronald appointed Erwin. Thanks for agreeing with me.

But well done on being so spectacularly, spectacularly dumb.

The problem with this conversation is that too many people presume that Puel can play in one way and one way only, with no variation or adaption.

We're all waiting for the variation

People were too hasty to criticise Puel and the Board. It still all might end in tears, but....

I didn't and wouldn't judge him after the first 4 games and won't after the last 4. For me the time to judge is (and always has been) after Christmas

Positive signs recently but worrying signs when we've played any team with a serious goal threat. Dury still out - but as always I'm optimistic and hopeful

Easy to be critical and hard to be complimentary eh?

Interesting that 4 out of our 11 goals this season have been scored by substitutes (1 winner, 1 equaliser, and 2 3rd goals), never felt under Koeman that the bench was utilised enough or at least didn't affect the game enough, Puel is not afraid to make a 50/60 minute change if it's needed

And the last week we have seen what some of us were screaming for, Charlie Austin on the pitch and in the box and we won the game because of that. I thought we were very poor today in the first half, passed it far too slowly and consistently slowed the game down when we had great opportunities to counter attack at pace, but we went in 1 up because our goalscorer was on the pitch and in the box, and he scored a goal none of our other strikers would have scored. That goal changed the game as we could pick them off in the second half and only the usual woeful finishing stopped an embarrassment for West Ham. But let's be clear, Austin won us the game with that goal and if we had gone in at 0-0 I'm not sure we'd have been able to play the way we did in the second half, and who knows what would have happened.

If Austin is on the pitch and in the box, we will have a decent season.

Some of our football in the 2nd half was a joy to watch, can't remember us playing as quick and fluid last season. Some of our attacks reminded me of our MP days. Really exciting as it seems his methods are really hitting home now and things are clicking into place.

We've been alright most of the season to be honest, should have beaten both Watford and Sunderland at home and were unlucky away at Arsenal. If you want to see a team who have had a bad start look no further than Stoke or WHU. We've been ticking along nicely really.

I struggle to warm to him as a person. Under the new board, we've gone dull, lively, dull, lively and now dull again but if he carries on like this he's won me over. If he wants to take over from Wenger in a few years, that's fine by me because it means he'll have to work extra hard here and take us to even greater heights! I have no problem with players and coaches using us as a stepping stone. It can only be good for us.

Really pleased to see results improve and, quite honestly, our style of play is now back to some of the Pochettino era.....exciting to watch and easy on the eye. Despite how well Koeman did for us over 2 seasons you couldn't honestly say the style was particularly joyful to watch for the majority of the time.

The squad seems to be really together and it was quite opportune Koeman leaving, as otherwise I don't think Tadic would still be here.

Hopefully we are back on an onward march and nice to see press and commentators finally giving lots of praise to the Southampton Way in terms of the whole ethos being far more than any individual.

Perhaps that was deliberate, to draw West Ham's teeth (such as they were), get the crowd on their backs and make them frustrated? We _were_ slow and I was grumbling about it in the pub, but I wasn't grumbling at the end..

Puel has now adapted his formation to allow a 433 when attacking and a diamond when defending and at certain points in the game, very good tactical ability by him, Also he has Redmond playing as a winger in patches which also helps.

We wont finish high as we did under Koeman but we certainly can finish 8th and have a cup Semi Final or Final especially in the league cup, Especially if we beat Sunderland and get the Winner of one of the all championship games at home.

One virtue of this system is that players don't need to be too specialised in a particular position to make it work. It's about units and about trusting each other on the ball.

Don't need a big target man who can only play central. Don't need a speedy wide man. Don't need a big destroyer in the middle. Don't need a silky number 10. It certainly helps with the rotation.

The only really specialised positions are the centre backs and GK.

This is what I thought too. He has Austin in and it looks like more of a 4-3-3, with Tudac and Redmond filling open lanes.

Nope the formation has always been like that.

The Full Backs are crucial in this system and both were superb yesterday, plus the 2 CMs beside the holding midfielder are crucial in covering the full backs when they go forward.

Looking as good as last season. Just because Puel isn't much of a character and a bit of an unknown to some, he was written off by many. As long as he knows how to manage a football team that's fine by me. The team are starting to adapt to his tactics, and so far I think he has managed the squad rotation really well. Early days, but we will be ok this season. I think it's inevitable we will be lower in the league; the Europa should be the priority. This can still be a great season for us.

On the post match show with Thierry (you know the little Redmond guy), I thought it was funny when they showed a picture of Puel grimacing on the sidelines. It was 3-0 at that point, yet Puel was still complaining about something. Thierry said yep, that's his happy face.

Was listening to Henry talk about Puel playing at Monaco and they were saying that his role was just win it give it to good players but he would run through a wall for the team.

He said Puel wrote everything down - he listened and was fascinated by Wenger and tactics. Henry thought he would make a great manager going by his knowledge and the way he was so interested in tactics.
