Chalkboy Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Thank f*ck for half time. Thought we looked sharp for the first 20 minutes but after that we got steadily worse by the minute. Romeu looks drugged. Looked all at sea as soon as Sunderland applied any pressure to our defence. Needs sorting.
austsaint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 However I don't think Puel will do this. Instead he'll drop Austin, who has given us our only 2 real chances, for Long and leave "little Henry" up front. One thing I'm sure of...Redmond is not a striker.
OttawaSaint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Trying to be patient but I thought the whole manager search hoopla was supposed to get a guy in to play our way. This diamond experiment seems suicidal.
vonbonds Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It's easy to ridicule the diamond formation but there isn't enough talent in the starting XI. Austin is lumbering around, lack of creativity and bite in the midfield, Redmond for Mane (barf) and Targett is no Bertrand. It is what it is. Also calling out Puel so early and him not having the dressing room on his side is fantasy talk, who the hell knows and most likely that guess us crap as everyone on the team is a professional.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Agree with most of what has been said. Change the system back to last year's and we'd look twice as good.

It's the formation. No two ways about it
Mr X Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 has puel even watched the premier league? if the diamond thing was a good idea why does no one employ it?
badgerx16 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It's the formation. No two ways about it Is CP stubborn enough to stick with it, or man enough to change it ?
Bewildered Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It would also help if both full backs actually attacked. Targett's fear of the going to the byline forces us towards the right every time and makes defending even easier for Sunderland.
hypochondriac Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It's both. Redmond isn't mane, austin isn't pelle, but the formation isn't helping any of our players at all. That's two players and in truth we played much better and won last year without both of them. It's the formation for me.
vonbonds Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It's the formation. No two ways about it My point is what formation does this substandard team compared to last year thrive in? Magically going to another formation doesn't create more with the players that are on the pitch currently. Mane isn't screaming down the wing pushing defenders back, Wanyama is destroying in front of Fonte and VVD and the team didn't really bring in any upgrades for players that weren't sold. I'm hoping for a comfortable bottom half finish this year as it appears to my eye the brain trust at St. Mary's wants to take a breath and retool as I surely haven't seen ambition from them in the offseason.
jamesfp1 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 It's unlikely to worse than it has been. That's the one positive going into this half. Here goes...
Verbal Kint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 has puel even watched the premier league? if the diamond thing was a good idea why does no one employ it? Because it's incredibly easy to play against. We are narrow with the ball and therefore create little, and narrow without it which gives them an easy out ball and with the full backs out of position the centre backs get exposed out wide in places they have no interest in being

Heisenberg Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 OK positive note: we can't play any worse Can we?
adrian lord Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 I wonder what Matt Le Tiss' private opinion is of matters.
Plastic Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Davis has been abysmal. Looks either disinterested or lost, can't decide.
saintant Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Diamond might work in tippy tappy tepid French football but is is not suited to the cut and thrust of the 100mph Premier League. If it aint broke don't fix it is a good maxim but for some crazy reason we've decided to abandon a style of play that served us well for this turgid diamond formation. I get the feeling someone at the club has been too clever by half and it's backfired.
washsaint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 This diamond formation is utter sh**e. Every time we lose the ball/gain the ball there are gaping gaps on the flanks as we are not playing with width. Leaves us open all the time and this is not the French league where play is far slower and methodical.
adrian lord Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Too many are seemingly out of form, especially stalwarts like Davis and Fonte, who we normally rely upon. When you combine that with the new formation it's not a pretty sight.
Edmonton Saint Posted 27 August, 2016 Author Posted 27 August, 2016 On a side note, I really despise Lee ****ing Mason.
St Marco Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Romeu, Redmond and Austin have been ****ing gash
Dalek2003 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Everton winning again RK is a very good manager. We should have matched Everton salary offer.
Gunnery Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 This has got Saints 0-1 Sunderland (Defoe 90+2) written all over it...

Heisenberg Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Another lucky escape. Meanwhile our dynamic manager looks clueless pointing in every direction. A man out of his depth
alpine_saint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 This has got Saints 0-1 Sunderland (Defoe 90+2) written all over it... My thoughts too.
hypochondriac Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Is it too much to ask for a little bit of entertainment? I've watched all three games so far and been bored to tears.
Dalek2003 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 My thoughts too. Not my thoughts just yet, but I am worried.
Heisenberg Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Zero movement from us Absolutely shocking performance
Shance Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Play the ****ing ball to Austin first time ffs!!!!!
Dalek2003 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 We should take them to the cleaners, surely ?
striker Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 These are good runs, and its really close to onsides. One time he will be.
washsaint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 I can see how playing the threaded balls through for a rapid striker might work - but Austin is not that player. Hopefully Boufal is

Gotta say these players looked a damned sight more capable when playing a proper formation though Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
Edmonton Saint Posted 27 August, 2016 Author Posted 27 August, 2016 They have a kid in goal, yet we have barely tested him. So frustrating.
Dalek2003 Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 What is the chant about Redmond ? Are the crowd on Puel's back ?
DG Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 I wonder if we will score 2 goals in one league game this season.
washsaint Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 Having watched the U23 game earlier this week - that was entertainment and a formation that looked threatening. This is the complete opposite.
OldNick Posted 27 August, 2016 Posted 27 August, 2016 we always seem to be last on Motd and so Im sure we wont be disapppointed tonight
