Sofiane Boufal

At the following link the Daily Mail gives a pretty good summary of the Boufal signing and other Saints comings and goings. Most of the other quotes eg Rodriguez loan, Cuco Martina situation, Fraser Förster, ins and outs, seem to come from Puel himself. Quite a bit to ponder over

Where has his reputation for a trouble maker come from?

Seen him labelled as a bad boy a few times, but not seen any specifics to explain why?

Anyone ITK on this?

From what I understand, I think that the reputation is made up in your head.

Few comments I picked up on from Spurs forum.....

If nonsense then phew....

For example

Boufal supposedly has major attitude problems. He feels he's too good to work for the team, doesn't listen to the manager in training and his little respect for his teammates. I think that's why we've cooled our interest in him

- forcibly preventing Tallo from taking the spot-kick.

- Boufal appeared selfish

- manager Hervé Renard was forced to separate Sofiane Boufal and Junior Tallo

- L’Équipe reported a training ground incident between central defender Renato Civelli and Sofiane Boufal

- his self-centred attitude off the pitch is hurting LOSC’s results on it.

- manager asking Boufal "do you care"

Couldn't really give a sh1t what a forum a team that has no affiliation with the player has to say. They will be completely wrong.

The same could have described Sadie Mane tbh...

Terry Paine was not a particularly likeable person either I believe but I am glad we signed him from Winchester

It's a done deal. Pointless to start paying an injured player until the transfer window ends.

Expect this transfer to be drawn out a little longer.

So you think we are going to draw out a transfer that's reportedly worth 20 odd million to save 6 days worth of wages??:lol:

Well it's not done until it's announced and that is why Puel doesn't want to talk about it. Probably as well why the club does things on the quiet to stop last minute bids from other clubs happening, but not much you can do when the Lille manager basically says it in his press conference.

I'd also expect whatever attitude he has, the club are well aware of it and it has been considered. Osvaldo is the only bad apple we've signed and his signing bypassed the usual system and backfired, so I seriously doubt this is the case here.

The club's record on signing the right sort of players means we should not worry, they know what they are doing. We've probably been watching this guy for like two years and the club will have done their due diligence.

Still don't get this issue with 'little guys', wtf is this the 1970s? We aren't building a team to lump balls into the box, we are building a team that is based on passing, movement and quick transitions. A short arse like Boufal will run rings round the likes of Shawcross.

Clubs aren't coming to snatch him at the last min, but the media like making a story, makes it more interesting as we reach deadline day. Similar happened with Ramirez. We had an entire week of ''He's signing!!' ''No, it's off!'' ''He's signing!'' ''Nope, its off again'' - when in actual fact it turned out that he'd signed at the start of the week anyway, the delay was the work permit.

We've got him, so pointless getting stressed otherwise.

The Times are reporting that the deal between the clubs is agreed but the player has yet to decide on the transfer

Would the club be pretty certain he would sign before offering the deal? Don't know how things work

These days I think all clubs sound out a players agent before bidding. I doubt we would have bid if we hadn't been given encouragement by the players representatives that he would be happy to play for saints.

He's been linked with Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal and the like so maybe he's holding out to see if one of those makes a last minute bid.

Well according to L'Equipe Leicester started sniffing around yesterday as well. How accurate that is I've no idea. Article also says that we've offered him about 50 K a week.

A comprehensive agreement was very close to the transfer of Sofiane Boufal in Southampton, the player's choice. Explanation.

Several media reported in recent hours that an agreement was close on the transfer of Sofiane Boufal in Southampton. That's exactly right. At the time of writing, a comprehensive common ground is indeed very close to being reached between all parties. The deal revolves around $ 20 million, including bonuses. The transaction is expected to officially buckled before the end of the week.

Southampton wants Boufal for months

In fact, if Southampton appears now in pole position to welcome the player, it is because Boufal set its priority choice on the Saints in front of several other clubs who were also in the running in recent days, like Watford or Leicester . Southampton was positioned for months on Boufal , even before the arrival of Claude Puel . The insistence of the English club, which can moreover be a springboard to the Premier League giants, marked the Lille player and weighed in its final choice, while the transfer window is about to close and that we now conclude. The side of the LOSC , with an amount of around 20 million including bonus, we get the expected figure, a flow of money that will ease the club's accounts.

Great thread, that was probably the highlight of Gaston's entire time at Southampton though.

Maybe the highlight(s)....were the entire four year contract he signed at £65K /week ....and only getting to start 48 games for Saints. Another Nicola Cortese coup.

There is something seriously wrong about signing a player for £12 million, who is subsequently ignored by 3 successive managers, and then walked away for £nothing.

"Leicester Sniffing" is the same agent leak to negotiate more money in the way United were "Sniffing" around Fonte who was always going to stay, but was after as good a deal as he could get.....

absolutely spot on. Where on earth does everyone think all this news comes from? As much as we like to think the press make everything up, most stories come from sources and 9 times out of 10 that source is an agent. I don't think united were interested in Fonte or he was ever going there, it was just the `game' being played to try and get that extra year.

You can criticise the club for its "springboard" policy, but realistically would we be able to sign players like Boufal and Højbjerg without said policy

Pierre spoke openly about "using us" and now we have Boufal talking about using us as a springboard before he's even signed.

I guess the club is selling this process to players as a convincer to sign

Is it a bad thing?
