And as for the ability to dribble and beat people I recall him leaving most of the WBA team on their arses. Before delivering an end product. The reason why we rarely saw that was probably down to the overcautious dimwit Managers that were giving him instructions not to take risks. SuperSAINT Posted 24 May, 2019 Share Posted 24 May, 2019 Both leaving Southampton on loan to Celta Vigo this season to find some more game time, Wesley Hoedt and Sofiane Boufal will be returning to St Mary’s in different circumstances. The Dutch defender impressed early on in his spell, fell out of favour towards the end of the campaign, making just two appearances in the last eight games ever since Fran Escriba took over in early March. AS are the ones reporting the news of the pair’s return to Southampton, where Hoedt is unlikely to receive a warm welcome from Ralph Hassenüttl, who didn’t find a spot for him in his team. Boufal, on the other hand, is expected to be a part of the Austrian’s team in preseason, according to El Desmarque, having been sent to Celta Vigo by Mark Hughes prior to the former RB Leipzig manager’s arrival. Hoedt only managed 10 appearances over the course of the second half of the season, a stark contrast to Boufal, who featured 35 times in La Liga, scoring three goals and assisting teammates four times. The Morocco international was also the player who attempted and completed the most dribbles in Spain’s first division during the 2018-19 campaign. benjii Posted 25 May, 2019 Share Posted 25 May, 2019 It's definitely worth giving Boufal a pre season. As the squad currently stands, imagine if Redmond got injured? The only other players capable of making a yard of space for themselves are Lemina and Sims. Lemina plays deeper and is often injured and Sims still needs to show he's good enough. We definitely need to add to our attacking mid options but centre back and centre forward are probably higher priorities.

Charlie Wayman Posted 25 May, 2019 Share Posted 25 May, 2019 This might just work you know. Love to see him do again what he did against WBA, that goal alone was worth the entry fee. The lad can play football that's for sure and he can track back and tackle, just needs to improve his decision making which grant you won't be easy. The guys who are brilliant on the ball and can beat their man with speed and guile can also be incredibly selfish when it comes to finishing. Redmond still has a lot to learn as indeed does Raheem Sterling in knowing when to go it alone and take a punt or when to play in a team mate. TWar Posted 26 May, 2019 Share Posted 26 May, 2019 3 goals for someone of Boufal's quality is terrible. Would love to think a good manager can make him the 10 a year attacker he should be but doubt it now.People's standards are far too high. Our player of the season got 6 prem goals. For reference, an actual 10 goal attacking mid for a club of our size is zaha and he is being valued at 100 million. Boufal got 3 goals and 3 assists. If we can add another goal and a assist or two he will be a very acceptable Premier league asset. Sent from my G3311 using Tapatalk

Not exactly in the best team, I mean they finished 17th, and 3 goals and 3 assists would effectively make him one of our best attackers. Especially as Redmond got what 6 goals and 4 assists, and played about 1200 more minutes than Boufal.
Evil Monkey Posted 26 May, 2019 Share Posted 26 May, 2019 And that's rubbish too. But it was half a season. You can't just a player's output with the mark hughes effect. Redmond and JWP clearly have a few goals in them. Redmond should be aiming for double figures and I think he'd have got it under Ralph over a full season, if not more. Boufal has more talent than most. Accepting 4 goals and assists from one of your main attackers means you'll likely to struggling. There is no way someone of that talent should be scoring 1 in 10 or worse. Whether it's poor management, poor attitude or just lost confidence, something is wrong with that. Double figures, if not more? Triple figures? I'd like to see that. Why is it that you're happy to attribute Redmond's goal output to half a season due to poor management, but Boufal should be doing better regardless of management? To be clear, I mean 'changed the game' in a way that none of our current squad would've been capable of doing (with the jury obviously a long way out on Djenepo). Maybe RH has already decided he's surplus to requirements, but he's got ability that's otherwise completely missing from our squad, so personally I hope he does well and comes back eager to be a part of what RH is trying to build here. Convict Colony Posted 23 June, 2019 Share Posted 23 June, 2019 Enjoyed his appearance, he made a chance within 60 secs and about 2 more in 5mins. Beat people with ease and seemed to be closing down the defenders well. He had some nice link up play with the left back and ziyech. He still had his "when I beat 3 players I'm gonna have a strike for a worldy effort" but all in all he looked the most dangerous player on the pitch. Namibia were hard to break down, think morrocco a little rusty, will be interesting to watch Mali tomorrow night. Also whoever thought to play the afcon in Egypt in summer needs to be shot. SuperSAINT Posted 25 June, 2019 Share Posted 25 June, 2019 Club trying to ‘considerably’ lower Southampton demands – Prospect of doing so ‘isn’t bad’ Sent to Celta Vigo by Mark Hughes who had little use for him in his Southampton team, Sofiane Boufal enjoyed a fairly successful season in La Liga, a league ideally suited for his style of football. Leading the league in dribbles completed last season, the Morocco international impressed the Spaniards enough for them to consider a purchase. However, according to Atlantico in Spain, the €16m option to buy in the loan deal is ‘unachievable’ for Celta Vigo, who are currently in talks with Southampton for the winger’s transfer. The idea of these discussions is to try and reduce Boufal’s price ‘considerably’, and the outlet state the prospect of doing so ‘isn’t bad’. Celta have the player on their side, who enjoyed his time in Spain, and ‘sees with good eyes’ a permanent stay in Vigo, even agreeing to wage that ‘isn’t that low’ as long as the transfer fee doesn’t go above €8m. It seems the Spaniards have set a certain amount of money aside for this, which includes the player’s salary, but it can only work if Boufal plays along and the Premier League club agree to the fee. There’s no mention of where Southampton stand in all this, but considering the Saints spent close to £17m on the former Lille star, it would be surprising if they accepted less than half that amount with two years left on his contract and a good season behind him. One we’ll be keeping an eye on.
