Agreed. I do find it astonishing that people feel able to pass radical judgements on young players that are part of a team that is obviously not functioning as a unit.

A weak TEAM performance will put more pressure on each of its component parts and will make them look worse than they are. Man Utd last night anyone?

Perhaps we can conclude that he's not an absolutely stunning prospect. But IF we'd have been able to blood Lancashire alongside a commanding CB behind a dominant CM pairing and supporting a strike force that were keeping the other team's defences busy, he'd do well IMO. He's played England U19 games alongside Michael Mancienne, who IS hailed as a stunning prospect. That makes him better than Sunday league for me.

I take your point but some very average players have U21 caps, it's no guarantee of quality. Even Franny and Gordon Watson got regular U21 caps.

If he gets his, ahemm, international clearance in time :smt044

Didn't you hear? The bloke what does clearances at UEFA is on holiday until the second week of February.:yawinkle:

Oh, I would guess it's pronounced Say-iss.

Possibly. I don't know, it's all Dutch to me.

Foreign CB signed by us. Easy, it's Stasis

As in spot the difference between one of our foreign CB's and someone in Stasis...

The stasis subject has more movement

Sounds like a good addition if true.

We have been crying out for a leader and it would appear this guy fits the bill.

Still, will reserve judgement until a) he actually signs and b) he's played a few games for us.

You all remember Ruud Knol don't you? ;)

The best we have ever had at hitting the bar was G Burley.

This looks, on the face of it, a good addition, though seeing him against humans might give us a bigger clue. Now need to keep Schniederlin and get him fit, play him in the middle of the park and add a decent striker (assuming Saga won't get a game behind he who must not be dropped, DMcG. Get the spine right and we'll stop shipping goals.

Can you imagine our lot lined up trying to hit the crossbar like that?

Spoon - daisy cutter - spoon - toblerone feet - trips on ball - spoon - etc.

Except they would've been trying it from the halfway line... this guy did it from the edge of the penalty area. Better than me, but of course he's going to do well.

A new defender is acquired and there are Saeijs of relief around St Mary's!!

Or maybe it's just a cunning plan by Rupert: if the fans start to chant for Jan P. to go, he can send Mr Saiejs back to Holland instead...

Seriously, though, welcome to Southampton, Jan. We need a leader at the back & I really hope you're the answer.

Offix, get your finger out! Translate this, pronto:yawinkle:

OK.

Original article in Voetbal International here: http://www.vi.nl/NieuwsItem/RodaJCHaaltAddoEnLaatSaeijsNaarSouthamptonGaan.htm

Translation:

Roda JC acquires Addo en lets Saeijs go to Southampton

08/01/2009 08:53

Roda JC will get Eric Addo on loan from PSV for the remainder of the season. Jan-Paul Saeijs will leave the club from Kerkrade, and he is to be loaned out to Southampton. Jan Poortvliet’s club plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football.

Addo was on loan at Roda JC before. In 2003 the defender played 27 matches for them. The 30 year old Ghanese defender played only 2 matches for PSV this season. He scored once. Earlier Roda JC acquired Laurent Delorge from Ajax and Arnaud Sutchuin will come over from Anderlecht.

Southampton gets Saeijs on loan for the rest of the season. The 30 year old defender has negotiated an option for Southampton to buy him. Condition is however that The Saints maintain their Championship status. Currently the team is in 23rd place, second from the bottom.
