Charlie Austin to leave ?

I wouldn't be surprised after pre-season - watching him chase(and failing) a full back all the way to half way line and get abysmal service he must be sooo p1ssed off especially with this formation we are now playing.

Charlie is a box predator to not play him there is a waste of his talents.

Yep agree with that, he's a box goalscorer but this system is the end of his time here. What with Pelle gone, Jay half the player he was we are in dire straights up front, hopefully they get someone in who fits.

Not sure if there is any truth to this, but it would actually make sense from a pure playing point of view. The new scheme by Puel does not favor players like Austin, Pelle, Carroll, etc. He is an "around the box" goal scorer, not a midfielder who plays striker in a wide open concept. In a normal 4-4-2 he would score a lot of goals, IMO 10+ for sure in the PL. Give him service anywhere near the box and he will get it on goal. If thats the style then he would be a great pickup. I am sure he's not happy sitting and feels like he could play. Even here he has scored goals when healthy, this preseason I think him and Redmond tied for the top.

Also the QPR thing could certainly be real. They are 2-0 and think they have a real shot at getting back up. His style fits them perfectly, and of course they love him there. It would actually be a very good fit. Not sure about Everton yet but RK was the coach who brought him here. If Puel was the coach last year I don't think Austin would be the type of player he would buy.

One more thought and then I'll shut up. Perhaps there was a lot more to the fact that Austin played in the U-23 game last week vs QPR than we thought. Maybe it was a showcase of sorts, where he certainly did excel. There is no doubt the guy can score in this league given the right formation.

Not sure if anything is in this but recollect saying to my lad at the final whistle on Saturday that Charlie Austin walked straight off the pitch without hanging around to shake hands or applaud the crowd like the remainder of the team.

Maybe that is his style or perhaps there is truth in the rumour

He's still an excellent striker who cost 4m plus potentially high wages. He's 26, and was incredible in the year that QPR went down.

There is nothing to not like about having a player like this on our books.

Whether or not he wants to go is irrelevant, in my opinion we should be doing everything to keep him, including altering the formation so he can be as good as he was for QPR.

I don't understand why you would force a system that favours Long/Redmond or who knows else, instead of playing to Charlie's strengths.

I was ecstatic when he game, I would be very concerned if he leaves. Not because we're losing that potential, but because it seems the wrong approach to take by Puel.

played correctly in the right formation charlie would net between 15/18 goals this year in the formation we play now he may just as well pack his bags

Talking of the U23's I saw the Liverpool game and noticed Ings was upfront for them. Wonder what the future holds for him. Injury has prevented him from getting much game time at Anfield but he's a decent player and now fit.

Just working his way back to first team fitness I imagine

There seems to be some pace and power up front in the U23s.

Just for grins I went to an Everton fan site and found them talking about it too. Here's a gem from one of the posts:

"My best mate works with Austin's ex mrs husband. They have a child together so has to be notified if he changes clubs etc. Everton have been in contact apparently. I'm no ITK but information I've been told."

If you believe this then there is some basis to this.

Would have thought with the Europa league coming up etc etc Austin would have been an absolutely must to hold onto - if he leaves I will be very disappointed, we were crying out for a "fox-in-the-box" finisher last year and he has hardly had a chance. What with the Fonte situation, bad body language by several on Saturday and now this I am starting to become a little concerned.

The Board have made few mistakes in the last few years so we must keep the faith but you can't help wondering

 This is bound to be true!

Apart from Austin has only one child (daughter) with his current wife

He has got another child from before he met his wife....however I still don't believe a word that the Toffee has said.

Maybe Austin just hasn't impressed? Everyone goes on about his QPR record but it was a while ago now and only one season. He looked a bit overweight on Saturday, certainly seemed very slow relative to long and redmond.

If Puel doesn't rate him then there's little point having him. But we loaned out gallagher too so must be planning signings.

THIS.

It does make sense to move on a forward that's not too reliable fitness wise IF we are going to bring in a quality forward who costs a stack and we are expecting to be first choice up front.

Maybe but not when you have sold your 2 best forwards already we need strength and depth for all the games we have.

I was okay with Puel saying we didn't need another striker. I took that as he was confident Austin and Rodriguez were going to make the grade this season. This Austin story concerns me. Hope you guys are right that actually he has a big name lined up, And I don't mean Adebayo Akinfenwa, or Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce. Not a long name as such. A 25 goal a season man, please, that can slot right in. I was expecting French .... so Giroud maybe.

It's getting to the point where we need to have a serious conversation about whether Les Reed has a compulsive selling disorder and if we can get some help for him. Although I believe the disorder is characterised by distress or impairment which doesn't add up because it appears on the face of it that the board get a lot of pleasure from the incessant sale of our prized assets.

As fans perhaps we could organise an intervention or a crowdfunding campaign for treatment?
