Mr X Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Every team needs a proven 15 goal+ a season striker to survive in the premier league, Long has never been known for being consistent enough to get much over double figures, Jrod looks a shadow of the former player he was, & redmond although scoring today the striking role isn't his natural position, i just don't see where the required amount of goals are going to come from? Nolan Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Well the person currently closest to fifteen is Redmond. But everybody else bag Targett and Forster had a shot on goal today. So take your pick.
DG Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Austin used to be pretty good. Maybe we could play him more than 10mins at a time?
Colinjb Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 West Brom survived with a 4 goal striker. Palace reached the cup final and survived with a 5 goal striker. Too simplistic an argument.

Share your concern. Austin is the most likely out of the current four available, assuming he starts or has enough game time that is. Similar concern is the lack of a goal threat from midfield (for another season).
doddisalegend Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Our top scorers got 11 each last season. We haven't had a 20 goal a season striker since the championship.
Batman Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Our top scorers got 11 each last season. We haven't had a 20 goal a season striker since the championship. We have one who got 18 in a relegated side. Sat on the bench
nta786 Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Haven't had 15+ since Jay Rod in 2013/14 and Lambert 2012/
Saints foreva Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Give Austin decent service and he will score goals for fun.
Matthew Le God Posted 13 August, 2016 Share Posted 13 August, 2016 Every team needs a proven 15 goal+ a season striker to survive in the premier league Well that is complete nonsense! In 2015/16 the only players to score more than 15 goals were... 1) Kane 25 2) Aguero 24 3) Vardy 24 4) Lukaku 18 5) Mahrez 17 6) Giroud 16 Saints didn't have a 15+ goalscorer last season and we came 6th! Long got 10 from 28 games last season (some of which were out wide), Redmond was playing as a winger not a striker in a terrible side last season and scored 6. In their last full Premier League seasons, Rodriguez scored 15 in 30 games and Austin scored 18 in 35 games for a terrible relegated side.
