Can All The People Raving About Redmond

Will never be surpassed. You can forgive Ali Dyer, Alan 'Gordon' Bennett had a proper stinker. Turned out OK after that to be fair to him.

'Ok' based on the standard we were displaying that year, but overall he was and always will be a hopeless footballer.

Sometimes I think fans need to be transported back to 2008, just as a gentle jog and a reminder of how **** it can actually be.

In Garths team of the weekend!

Problem both Redmond and Romeu have is that they are not Mane and Wanyama....we had same with Morgan when he went and had months of stupid posts about Morgan sized holes in our midfield.

Its not Redmond's fault he has been stupidly set up to fail "new Henry" my arse...the lad has to be given time and didn't need that pressure added but he won't be by our fanbase.

We need to recruit a Mane replacement and let Redmond grow into that role and be the Juanmi replacement.

Redmond just tried too hard on his debut but second half was decent.

To me, while I am boring and traditional and like my wingers to be wingers, and not some diamond, the most important thing is for the manager to instil confidence in the player(s). With Redmond, I am not sure what more the manager can do in that respect with him. Now, those saying that Puel shouldn't try and make him be a striker when he is a winger, we all know that Thierry Henry started as a winger. We all know that Gareth Bale started at left back.

In Garths team of the weekend!

Ahh that puts me in an awkward position I think Crooks is a terrible pundit who talks ****e but when I read his team of the week I really wanted to believe every word...

"I always felt Redmond never got the credit his football deserved at Norwich.

While it seems that it's taken another foreign manager to bring the best out of an English player, Claude Puel's decision to play Redmond as a striker for Southampton, as opposed to in his perceived best position on the flanks, was pure genius.

With his right foot, Redmond forced Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes to produce a first-class save. With his left, he scored a fabulous volley, having had a glance to see if he had enough time to make the strike.

His movement away from the ball was sensational and reminded me of Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe at his best. If Redmond can cope with the physical demands that come with the new role, then Southampton may have unearthed a gem."

Odd i personally thought Redmond's second half display was a definite positive. Scored one, was just offside timing his run when he scored a 2nd, had a decent effort late on just wide. I may not be a huge fan of the diamond formation currently but Redmond showed he definitely had promise to play in the striker role in that formation.

So we have written off Redmond after 90 minutes, as well as Puel. I take it, given those 90 minutes, that we are going to get relegated and Hull are going to finish top 4.

It seems to be the way of the modern football fan. When they leave in a couple of seasons the same posters will probably describe them as irreplaceable. I still remember people making donkey noises at Pelle at SMS in his early games...

Oh and our new manager? Early days but very little communication with the players - or tactics.

You must have been watching the game on the radio with the sound turned down!!!

When Gomez felt like a longer lay down on the pitch 1st half, some players went over to the line Puel started calling them all round for a chat, Maya and VVD were taking on liquid and talking with Fraser, and Puel made the 2 of them come over to join the discussion.................... I cant remember the last time all 10 outfield players have been called to attend a sideline mid half meeting held by a Saints manager.

Actually wasn't as bad as some folks seem to think , he's a great option but like any young player, being relied upon week in week out to be one of two sources of our goals in the premier league (w/ Long), of course it's far too much pressure/expectation.

We expect good things from Hojbjerg because he's of a solid pedigree from Munich and Augsburg.

Redmond is a good player but in my opinion doesn't benefit from having Long beside him since they are so similar. Rather have Redmond running the channels and a different kind of player (Austin probably) providing a different kind of goalscoring ability. In fairness to Austin he might not fit a diamond formation but he played with similar players at QPR. Hoilett/Vargas providing pace and running the channels. I like Long but he doesn't suit this formation well.

I see good things for Redmond going forward, I don't think you can be scathing when he scored on his debut. The team is under construction but it's the first day of the season. Talk all you want about starting as you mean to go on; last season we had a dire run for August and bits of September, finished 6th.
