Controlling Social Media

Amazing, they really are the Donald Trump of football club owners. Only a matter of time till they build a wall around the club to keep the dissenters out.

Amusingly i went to see the Charlton Bristol City match around Jan/Feb this year and it was an insanely toxic environment - there was a Hearse outside and everyone was wearing black. Then they started chucking black balloons on the pitch half way through the first half.

Shame to see this happen to them as they always where a club that had pride in developing their own players.

That is incredible to be honest. This is another fine example of how lucky we are. We could have got the owners Charlton, Leeds, Cardiff or Hull have - easily. I don't think much of AVFC's new owners either to be honest.

Freedom of speech is part of the times, if they can't accept that then they should really sell that poor club. Feel for the fans as they are run by such morons.

I wonder what the inflammatory comments were. If they were inciting violence, or racist etc I can see how this could be somewhat justified, albeit strange for a football club to be policing this sort of thing. If, as seems more likely, it was just comments expressing anger and negativity at how the club is being run on and off the pitch then it's clearly a shocking clampdown on free speech. I'm guessing from the mild phrase "not particularly constructive" that the comments weren't severe.

I suspect Mr Eager might have a few emails today!

In fairness, he is the patsy in all this. It's a bit like Oyston's behaviour at Blackpool. If that happened at SFC, I would tell them to shove it. If you can't take criticism then you are in the wrong game.

Add Blackpool to that- up there with the worst.

Saints have done worse. A season ticket was denied to at least one administrator of a messageboard which published views contrary to the club's own. It also appears that the club uses a PR firm to post messages on fans' messageboards as well as the comments sections at the end of Saints articles, in the form of ITK leaks. I expect a lot of clubs do it. It is a strategy in the modern business world, as exemplified by the fake reviews on amazon and Tripadvisor.

Yeah right...... You probably need to get out a little more and not believe everything that you read on social media, it's catching ain't it...!

Specific examples being?

Cortese banned Illisngsworth revoking his season ticket I think due to criticism of him . I don't have full details but I recall Nick's case was upheld by the football Ombundsman.

I was in two minds before but will definitely be boycotting Charlton away on August 30th.

The letters West Ham have sent out saying stewards have been briefed to deal strongly with anyone standing at the new stadium are also a joke. They had about 6000 regularly standing at the old ground, seems they don't want those fans anymore . Atmosphere will be awful at the 'London stadium'

Does anybody actually know what the guy said though? He might have posted something potentially libellous against the owners for all we know, in which case this action doesn't seem quite so ridiculous.

It's not "the guy" as apparently, and unless I am mistaken, quite a few people got the letter.

You should be careful too, with some of the crap you post about SFC ;)

Where have you seen the posted? I've only seen one letter posted online and it was posted to this guy. I agree with Bexy, unless we know exactly what was posted its hard to judge. For all we know it could have been threatening or libellous.

The old regime at Crawley Town banned three fans for similar - accusing them of a running an online/media campaign against the club and its owners - its nothing new really

Only sent to one person apparently.

The club can confirm that they sent a letter to one supporter relating to their continued inappropriate behaviour towards members of staff on Charlton’s official social media accounts and foul and abusive language captured on stadium cameras.

No other letters have been sent to supporters. A letter was sent to this individual as it was relating to a particular set of circumstances.

But in that case the police and solicitors should be brought into it?

That may well be their next step if this bloke doesn't take notice of this warning.

I don't get all the animosity directed towards CA over this. They've issued a warning to one fan over abusive language aimed at staff inside the stadium and inappropriate comments on a football forum and yet people who've never met the bloke or read what he posted are swarming to defend him.

I think a few people are going to look a bit foolish if it turns out he was being racist, threatening violence against staff or something of that ilk.

Surely if he was racist he wouldn't be allowed in the stadium. Instant ban, so it's not that. Obviously just mouthing off and being a tw4t.

You're probably right regarding the racism. My point is we have no idea what was said and posted, so who are we say CAFC are wrong.

Colin Murray had the bloke on his show this morning. Seems like a passionate fan who criticised the club but did use bad language on social media. The man in question used to work for the club as a volunteer too. He wasn't racist, homophobic etc. Just critical like many fans would be in their situation.

Shame. Charlton used to be a model for how clubs should be run.

I thought Colin Murray had walked in principle as the Sun (Murdoch) had bought in to Talksport
