Excellent news. He's going to be a key player for us this season I reckon.

Lets hope he flourishes in the No.10 position. He's easily the best choice for that role at the moment.

Important we tied him down after losing Pelle & Mane.

Good news! He's Probably better than Lallana? when he's on his A game, we've seen glimpses of it but not enough

Great news for the club, he is our most creative player by far. I know from a very good source within the club that he and RK had a very strained relationship towards the end, and if RK hadn't left then Tadic intended to.

Sadly the other snippet I have is that Fonte is taking some convincing as there is genuine interest from both Everton and Man Utd, and he is mulling over his options.

Regardless of interest, I think in this case, we need to raise the St Mary's draw-bridge (aka Morgan & Vic).

It's too close to the season to sell our captain.

Tadic was the only player I could confirm.

Cedric is likely.

Fonte I understand is a little more difficult.

Given that Fonte signed a new contract recently, does it matter if he doesn't sign a new one?

If he's considering his options and fancies moving to a club like United or Arsenal, does it really make a difference whether he pens a new deal with us?

I think it just tells us fans that he's definitely here for this season at least!

We all know that player contracts mean nothing these days, apart from that the player gets a nice payrise in return for us being able to sell at a premium. Its a win-win as someone like Shane Long earns more money this season than last, and if a club come in for him next summer we can demand a higher fee than if his contract was running low (a la Wanyama)

That's what I thought - it's more just a positive signal. But presumably there's no reason he can't sign a new contract today and leave to join Arsenal next week...

Back to Tadic - how he takes to the number 10 role may well be the make or break of Puel's 4-4-2 system. Partly because we don't have anyone else good enough or suited to play such a pivotal role, on the other because if Tadic doesn't play there where will he play? And can we afford to have our main creative source sat on the bench?

He ended last season at the top of his game, took it into the Internationals with Serbia as well. On his day, he's unplayable.

So, that's one of the 5 who wanted to go staying...! Well Done Koeman..?

It's like we've got a new player with a release clause allowing us to simply sell him for more! Sorry. That should read: 'It's like we've got a new player!'

delighted with the Tadic news, we desperately needed to keep hold of him.

Slightly more concerned that Fonte is POSSIBLY having his head turned.....and slightly concerned that Matt Le Tiss spent the day with the team yesterday and is reporting that he does not expect any more incomings???....also no out goings??

As much as he is a club legend, I very much doubt he is privvy to our transfer dealings.

Does that suggest that things have changed since you posted the following a week ago?

I still maintain that nothing I have seen or heard or understand about the situation suggests to me that Jose will be

anything but a Southampton player at the start of the season.

Pedant (or not) alert:

It's "Its" FFS.

On pleasanter matters. Good stuff. Hope he has a consistently good season making defenders look stupid.

Actually as it isn't possessive, then I would have thought "it's" is correct. It's is the contracted version of "it has" or "it is". "Its" is the possessive form of it.

"Surely news worthy of having it is own thread?"

"Surely news worthy of having it has own thread?"

Neither of those work. It's "its".

And it's crackin' that Tadic will stay for another season! Good stuff.

Yeah but the other 4 have gone so its not a fantastic success rate

Ah, if it's the OP being referred to then it's its as it's possessive.

And good that Tadic signed on. I would love to know the Tadic/Koeman relationship and what the problems were.

It is possessive. The thread belongs to the news.

Anyway, good news obviously that Tadic is staying, although I think it's been on the cards since Koeman left.

Southampton is a springboard for players and the club makes little secret of that now.

Tadic joined us and would have hoped to move onto one of the top 6 in England, Spain or Germany after a season or two ala Clyne, Mane, Big Vic ect ect

I think he had some interest this summer but perhaps only from clubs on par with us (Schalke) rather than the desirable Arsenal or Dortmund or even Liverpool.

If he delivers for us this season a big club may come knocking and he will be allowed to leave.

In the meantime we get to keep him and he gets another few years to prove he's a level above us. Win/win situation

Only by idiots

I believe he was described as a flat track bully who could only turn on it against lesser teams and one poster (whose name escapes me) said he couldn't cope with the UK winters....

Congratulations on the split infinitive:smug:

Except that's a third person future, not an infinitive. Outsmugged! ?
