Unbeaten in pre-season won't stop many panicking.

I dont think its a case of panic, its more like people are thinking or saying "yeah this is ok BUT who is going to score?"

If anyone thinks Jay Rod is going to start banging in goals someday soon their levels of optimism are sky high.

Tadic, Redmond and Long are not out and out goalscorers, Austin might well be but not playing out wide and he isnt going to be making killer runs into the box, he has no pace, he has to be there or there abouts to score and this system does not seemingly cater for that.

I personally think Pelle will be missed far more than many are prepared to admit, Mane certainly will.

Leicester are a great example of devising tactics which circumvent the fact that other teams often had technically better players.

Their PL winning stats from last season look more like a bottom half team (many worse than Bournemouth), but they won by breaking fast, hard work and making a lot of tackles and interceptions. Compare them with Spurs who came 4th.

Much as I'd like Spurs to have come 4th... they came 3rd. Fair point about stats. It's how many times you put the round thing between the stick things that matters, irrespective of how you get it there within the rules.

Funnily enough I think Redmond has already shown he's capable of filling the Mane role admirably, he's creative, skilful, quick and a decent finisher. It's whether he'll be played where he can affect the game enough that I feel is the issue. We don't have a target man so our "overlapping fullbacks" idea seems to fall down as it requires low early passes to runners' feet from the full backs, rather than the less technically difficult high ball in behind the back line for which a lower completion rate is accepted.

Having said that, we've got a wealth of midfielders who can pick a pass and some nippy strikers, we might be able to create enough like that.

Which sums up every single football forum there is, as adriansfc duly intimated. :D

Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish but it's ability to climb a tree then it'd spend its whole life thinking it's stupid. I'm not saying the helmets on here are helmets, but they appear helmets when they talk about football. Maybe they should stick to what they are good at, probably computer games and finding good porn sites.

Lol definitely and this is also why the general public shouldn't be allowed to vote..what do they know about running a country or politics in general..everyone should stick to what they know and leave the running of the country to May, Corbin and co and the running of the football club to the current chairman.....although did you like Cortese? If not perhaps when he was in charge the rules should have been different and criticism allowed? - let us all know what we are allowed opinions on and when wont you?

Well if we are going to play more possession based/controlling football we'll need some more creativity to break down those teams that will just sit in front of their box, especially at home. So even more reason for to get some extra quality in attack in.

We also will not have to aerial and bullying presence of Pelle to fall back on which gave us other options when trying to break these sorts of teams down.

You're entitled to an opinion on everything Fred, this is a football forum not a borstal. In fact you shouldn't even judge someone by their opinion, more on what sort of person their opinions make them. Which if here is anything to go by, most are pompous, arrogant know it alls or clueless bed wetting saps.

I love this on this board, people getting upset about being called moaners or claiming people are closing down arguments. Just stand by your opinion and don't care what others think; you have obviously thought about it, considering the facts and concluded your position, you have haven't you.
