Saint Without a Halo Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 From League one to European Champion all whilst staying at Saints What a story
Saint-Armstrong Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 A proper, proper Saints hero. On the banner, IMO.
SuperSAINT Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Can't be too many JPT winners that have won the Euros
SNSUN Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Signed for Saints the same month as Otsemobor, Seaborne, Barnard and Puncheon. Surely one of our all time best transfers.
Sheaf Saint Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Played a blinder tonight. Wasn't the captain but showed what a real leader he is. Really pleased for him. Get him on the banner now admins!
Pilchards Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 What are the chances someone coming forward with a 20 million bid? I know he won't look to leave but would Reed force it?
shurlock Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Great story - his goal at the Withdean still the highlight though
Saint Without a Halo Posted 10 July, 2016 Author Posted 10 July, 2016 And to think there was a debate about him losing it and Hooieveld being better as we left the championship some 4 seasons ago
Pilchards Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 And to think there was a debate about him losing it and Hooieveld being better as we left the championship some 4 seasons ago What was the other stupid one? Someone said Fuller is better than Ronaldo or something.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 What was the other stupid one? Someone said Fuller is better than Ronaldo or something. Wotton or Schneiderlin always stands out, in hindsight.
Nordic Saint Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 An absolute hero He's a truly great player, up there with Paine, Channon and Le Tissier in the pantheon of all-time great Saints, in a less glanmorous position, but achieving more than all of them. It's good to still have football heroes, especially one so modest and unassuming.
Saint_clark Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 What was the other stupid one? Someone said Fuller is better than Ronaldo or something. You're thinking of the Bradley Wright-Phillips/Torres comparison made by Poortvliet. He also compared Lee Holmes to Arjen Robben.
S-Clarke Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 You're thinking of the Bradley Wright-Phillips/Torres comparison made by Poortvliet. He also compared Lee Holmes to Arjen Robben. Robben never had anything on Lee Holmes. He was just a Holmes wannabe.
Pwoite Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 All time Saints legend. Does that make him the first non English legend, not that it matters? What a story. What a season for also ranks, no hopers and johnies come lately. Eat your heart out so called superstars, the ordinary guy is gonna mug yer!
Nordic Saint Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Can his picture be added to the banner at the top of the page now, please? He certainly desrves to be there alongside Rickie Lambert.

It's good to still have football heroes, especially one so modest and unassuming. Let's be fair Paine did get a world cup winners medal as a squad member in 66 and also made the journey from the then Div 3 to division 1 with saints but that was almost 50 years ago to do so now where players move at the drop of a hat must be so much harder
Saint Without a Halo Posted 10 July, 2016 Author Posted 10 July, 2016 Only player to have won Euro's and the JPT? A record unlikely to be ever beaten although with premier youth teams now in the tournament I guess it becomes more likely
Simon3737 Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 16th January 2010, Jose made his Saints debut in League One (carrying a 10 point deduction) away to Millwall at the New Den. Attendance 11,524. What's he up to now?
Pilchards Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 I honestly believe that Fonte would be more pleased getting added onto our legends banner than winning this Euro cup thingy. Lets make his dream come true.
sadoldgit Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Portugal looked so much better when Jose and Cedric and came to the team and both played a big part in the win tonight. So pleased for both of them.
ScepticalStan Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 I honestly believe that Fonte would be more pleased getting added onto our legends banner than winning this Euro cup thingy. Lets make his dream come true.
LaptopSaint Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Half the defence that won the Euros. Obrigado boys - especially you Jose. ****ing ledge.
Ohio Saint Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 I honestly believe that Fonte would be more pleased getting added onto our legends banner than winning this Euro cup thingy. Lets make his dream come true. I do love a genuine chuckle!
Red Posted 10 July, 2016 Posted 10 July, 2016 Half the defence that won the Euros. Obrigado boys - especially you Jose. ****ing ledge. Exactly - don't forget Cedric's part in this - really pleased for both of them. We need both to be part of our 1st 11 - Cedric will only get better and better!
saintwbu Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 Not only both part of the winning team, but only conceded 1 goal in 4 games!! plus an hour of extra time so almost 5 games! Unbelievable difference they made to the defence. So happy for them both.
rooney Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 He was intelligent enough to see that a step down to come to us at the time would result in an unbelievable step up:-promotion to championship>premiership>team captain>picked for country>Europa league>European Champions. That is what dreams are made of. Congratulations Jose and also to Cedric.
Foxstone Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 Parabens not only to our skipper but to both of our Portuguese Saints - They deserve one hell of a welcome at our first home match this coming season...
Miltonaggro Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 Very, very pleased for Fonte and Cedric, and what a battling performance in the French backyard - pots of character! Let's hope the experience of lifting a trophy becomes a habit for Jose.
Paul Chuckle Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 If i was Real Madrid i'd be looking at bringing Fonte in, him and Pepe were outstanding as a CB partnership. Would do a job for them for a couple of years. Really hope it doesn't happen but wouldn't be surprised to see Ronaldo and Pepe putting in a good word for our captain
pangy Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 If i was Real Madrid i'd be looking at bringing Fonte in, him and Pepe were outstanding as a CB partnership. Would do a job for them for a couple of years. Really hope it doesn't happen but wouldn't be surprised to see Ronaldo and Pepe putting in a good word for our captain As good as he is and has legend status with us,I am pretty sure there is not a hope in hell Real will come for Fonte
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 Clearly, with Koeman sodding off to Everton, we had a vacancy for our European Championship winning centre back role, which Jose has now filled nicely.
dinger Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 Can't be too many JPT winners that have won the Euros I've been all over the social medias trying to find out if he's the first to achieve this. Any stats nerds on here able to answer that?
Saints Fan Dan Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 And with Lovren not even being at the finals due to falling out with his manager... Delicious.

Whitey Grandad Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 As good as he is and has legend status with us,I am pretty sure there is not a hope in hell Real will come for Fonte Too old
tajjuk Posted 11 July, 2016 Posted 11 July, 2016 To be honest we've created two amazing stories, almost Roy of the Rovers stuff in Fonte and Lambert, League One players going on to represent their countries, and then Fonte going on to win the European Championship, it's amazing.

Classic quote from the comments section on that link... "He played last night, didn't he? I think he was extremely competent, resilient and effective. I don't know who he plays for at the moment but to have him (ready made) alongside Kolselny would be great."
