Slugger Posted 6 July, 2016 Share Posted 6 July, 2016 (edited) http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2016/07/06/southamptons-famed-academy-plans-to-help-usa/? Have seen the GK height thing mentioned on here before. Certainly very forward thinking. Interesting link to this: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20150825-southampton-bio-banded-tournament-2646125.aspx Plus we brought in Kevin Mullholland as a Physio from Sheff Wed recently who is an expert on maturation analysis. Pamplemousse Posted 6 July, 2016 Share Posted 6 July, 2016 Interesting that Juventus and Ajax were learning off us, as well as major US teams from other sports
Saxon Posted 6 July, 2016 Share Posted 6 July, 2016 Interesting to hear that we led with the most number of minutes played by academy players in the PL last season. If that's true that's excellent, though it does further highlight the challenge for youth players to make it in the first team of PL clubs, as we were all moaning last season that they weren't playing enough! So I'm surprised that we were the highest!

So I'm surprised that we were the highest! Happy to be proved wrong, but I think that statistic may have been from the previous season (2014-15). Harry Kane alone played more minutes than our 3 (?) academy players together last season, I think Spurs would have easily beaten us, maybe others as well. Unless it means Saints academy players who played for any PL club, in which case add Lallana, Shaw, Ox, Walcott, Baird, Surman and a few others. washsaint Posted 6 July, 2016 Share Posted 6 July, 2016 What a fantastic article and makes you proud to be a Saints fan. The 'Southampton Way' is real and great to see that other sports and top clubs are looking at what we do. This shows the club is trying to do things the right way and long may it continue. Charlie Wayman Posted 6 July, 2016 Share Posted 6 July, 2016 Well let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, most of that article was from a briefing script prepared by Reed.

That doesn't sound right, but if it is then it is more a damning indictment on the other clubs... wonder if they meant Saints Academy graduates across all clubs (ie including Lallana, Oxo, Walcott et el)

Maybe they did mean across all other clubs combined?
