Portugalsaint Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Since The Portugal coach has started using Jose and Cedric in his starting lineup, it has seen the Portugal with a much stronger defence etc. Might be coincidence but they look a lot better organised. Over here in Portugal, we will be up in our local sports bar to watch the match. The signed Southampton flag sits right next to the Portugal flag both signed by Jose and Cedric.
L1Minus10 Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Vierinha was pretty poor at right back in the opening games, as was Carvalho who looks about 45. I was surprised Jose got picked ahead of Alves but he's done well so far. Cedric of course had a high profile error for the Poland goal but after that he did well so should keep his place. Looking forward to it - hope they win.
Saint_Ash Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Is Pepe going to be fit? I think Bale will have a field day if it's Carvalho and Fonte are the two centre backs. It's about time Bale and Ronaldo showed why they are the most expensive players in the world.
angelman Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I haven't watched too much of Portugal, but what I saw of Fonte, he seems to be very vocal and keeps the back line pretty on the ball. Is that fair or is it Pepe doing that? In two minds who I would like to win! I want the winner of this game to win the whole thing, but it is Wales (have some Welsh blood somewhere or other and part of UK) vs the Saints players.
Hatch Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Is having two players in the team enough to claim it as Southampton winning it , or is the minimum 3 ( ref : West Ham )
angelman Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Couldn't care about the other 9!! but how about Wales having an ex-SFC academy player? On another topic, not sure who I dislike (as a player) the most. Ronaldo or Bale (with his stupid hair and who dives the whole time).
Jai27 Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Couldn't care about the other 9!! but how about Wales having an ex-SFC academy player? On another topic, not sure who I dislike (as a player) the most. Ronaldo or Bale (with his stupid hair and who dives the whole time). Ronaldo, without question. His game is infected with a constant petulance. I know we're talking player only, but a man who commissions a wax statue of himself to have in his house in undoubtedly a massive p***k.

Saint_Ash Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I like that. People can think what they like about Ronaldo but he wants to win, fiercely driven on the football pitch.
sammysaint Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Happy for Fonte he has proven stay loyal and grow with a club and you can still play european football and for your country. I really think Cedric will have a great season next year, he can whip a good cross in and should we use Austin and Jay Rod well and keep them fit he can get plenty of assists along with Tadic Bertrand and Redmond.
Saint IQ Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 If Wales win we'll never hear the end of it from the English people who have somehow suddenly become welsh. Portugal all the way!!
buctootim Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 If Wales win we'll never hear the end of it from the English people who have somehow suddenly become welsh. Portugal all the way!! I hope Wales win the whole thing. Hopefully it will stop people harping on about England and the 1966 WC. It was 50 years ago ffs. 11 other teams who aren't England have won more recently.

It was 50 years ago ffs. 11 other teams who aren't England have won more recently. Any Englishman cheering on Wales (who has no Welsh affinity) is a bit of an odd ball IMHO. Bit like me cheering on Pompey. Shudder.

It was 50 years ago ffs. 11 other teams who aren't England have won more recently. I don't hear anyone banging on about 66 then again I rarely hang around with people over the age of 65 . Portugal for me, 2 saints players hopefully starting 1 our captain. Wales have already overachieved thanks somewhat to our talent factory production of Bale and I think they'll be happy with getting this far, if they get further we will never hear the end of it. Do you want to hear "Wales Euro 2016 winners" for another 50 years? I don't.

dellboypete Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Probably already posted elsewhere, but a good article/interview with Fonte in the Guardian yesterday https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jul/05/portugal-wales-euro-2016-pepe-fitness-jose-fonte
Lord Duckhunter Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I don't hear anyone banging on about 66 then again I rarely hang around with people over the age of 65 . What about people banging on about our glorious semi final defeat in '96 ? " It's coming home " FFS .

davefizzy14 Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Portugal as the way for me! Two of our own and one of them is our captain. Common Jose and Cedric!
OVER THE HILL Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Portugal as the way for me! Two of our own and one of them is our captain. Common Jose and Cedric! The same for me even though Southampton lad Sam Vokes plays for Wales.
John D Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Why would anyone want Wales to win unless your Welsh. For me when comparing England with Saints then Scotland are Portsmouth and Wales are Bournemouth. So definitely don't want a Wales win even more so after the way their players celebrated England getting knocked out. Would be nice to see two Saints players in the final especially as I have a ticket for the game!
californiasaint Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Fonte is a natural leader. Despite joining the national side somewhat late in years, you can see that he has earned the respect and friendship of his teammates. It makes this run that much more enjoyable for me to watch. It will be a real test if Pepe is out. It helps that Ramsey is on suspension. Ronaldo is maturing and becoming less of a tw*t every day. He will probably never make it to the ranks of the humble, but (in addition to loving himself) he has immense love for the game, team, and country. You must respect that, along with his talent.
simo Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 BBC showing Cedric playing Cb with Alves Rb surely that's the wrong way around? Also how can any English man be supporting Wales after seeing the way they celebrated our loss to Iceland?
Norm Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I hope they have real stinkers along with the rest of the Portugal players! Come on Wales!!!

I want Wales to win, I also have no issue with Bournemouth winning and quite frankly Portsmouth winning is neither here nor there for me for at least five years, they can't hurt us. Come on Wales.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Good play from Cédric to win the ball back and then put a good ball in with his weak foot.
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Good play from Cédric to win the ball back and then put a good ball in with his weak foot. I can't imagine that a coach wouldn't look at Cedric and not think: "I could work with that".
Matthew Le God Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Good play from Cédric to win the ball back and then put a good ball in with his weak foot. I can't imagine that a coach wouldn't look at Cedric and not think: "I could work with that". It is surprising that Koeman dropped him and that so many Saints fans have already written him off calling for a new right back to be signed. Cedric is considerably better than Martina and Puel doesn't need to sign anyone to start ahead of him.
angelman Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I have alwys liked Cedric. Does anyone know why RK dropped him?
Lighthouse Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I have alwys liked Cedric. Does anyone know why RK dropped him? Because Martina and Yoshi look better defensively at the moment.

The blue-print for what Cedric can be for me was the Chelsea game @ Stamford Bridge - I thought he was fantastic that day.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Cedric will have his confidence back which will help him next season. Koeman screwed around with his confidence. Far better than Cuco. Sent from my SM-A300FU using Tapatalk
Slugger Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 The blue-print for what Cedric can be for me was the Chelsea game @ Stamford Bridge - I thought he was fantastic that day. He was great that day. Tended to struggle against the more physically imposing players like Arnautovic, Lukaku when he drifted and even Jordan Ayew. Hopefully will have benfitted from a season bedding in.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 well as it stands 2 Southampton players will be playing in the Final......Jose Fonte baby......what a ride this player has enjoyed with Saints. Would love him to bring a Winners medal back to St Marys.
Saint_clark Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I can't imagine that a coach wouldn't look at Cedric and not think: "I could work with that". Christ that sentence is a mess. I still can't figure out what it is you're actually saying.
Pancake Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 One day my Fonte to score at any time WILL ****ING come off.
Whitey Grandad Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 One day my Fonte to score at any time WILL ****ING come off. Wait until Sunday
SuperSAINT Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Christ that sentence is a mess. I still can't figure out what it is you're actually saying. Cedric. Is. Good.
simo Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Because Martina and Yoshi look better defensively at the moment. Not when I've seen him play, only bad game I can recall him having was Everton at home!?
jasonb Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Hell of a reception back at St Mary's if they win on Sunday. Will start as massive underdogs I'd of thought regardless of the opposition.
Pancake Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 I have alwys liked Cedric. Does anyone know why RK dropped him? Maybe RK always thought of him as a youth player.
Sour Mash Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Great achievement for Fonte, top man. Glad Wales and their English contingent have gone out.
GarrettIvo Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Some going from José. Not to be all MLG, but wasn't he named captain in 2014?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Not to be all MLG, but wasn't he named captain in 2014? Yeah, seem to remember Koeman making him the captain when he arrived because AL had left. Still, it's there in May so I suppose it's to include him as the captain for that season.
redder freak Posted 6 July, 2016 Posted 6 July, 2016 Some going from José. Thanks for that. Nice one Jose!
