Here's something else the BBC reported...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-4412052537481782250e0d33520ac125a68a480e.jpg

We’ve seen it before.

Jihadi John posted the same article and was then taken to task for failing to read the entire article, notably the fact that most of the US complaints were struck down and the EU has a similar case against the US government’s support for Boeing. Well done for demonstrating your reading comprehension skills are just as pitiful as JJ’s.

Take a break pal. Go build a snowman or something

https://www.jacklopresti.com/news/my-statement-regarding-airbus

"Yesterday, I had a meeting at the Airbus offices at Filton,*with their Senior Vice President Katherine Bennett, with other Senior Airbus managers,*and with Richard Harrington MP, the Minister for Business and Industry. Other Aerospace companies such as GKN and Rolls Royce were also present.*

Airbus, who made a profit reported to be approaching £4bn last year, were requesting further taxpayer funded support from Government.*They have also invited the Prime Minister*to open their new ‘Wing of the Future’ facility in Filton. At no point was Brexit mentioned by Airbus. Airbus seem to be in a state of confusion about their position.

One could be forgiven for thinking that some EU member state governments were using Airbus to try and influence the UK Government into giving them what they want in any future Brexit deal. Airbus have used these heavy handed tactics before. They threatened to leave the UK if we didn’t join the Euro, which, thank goodness, we didn’t. During the Referendum they tried to interfere in the democratic process by writing letters to their employees instructing them how to vote.

In recent months, they have tried to interfere in what was a perfectly legal and legitimate take-over bid by Melrose for GKN, saying:*“It would be ‘practically*impossible’ to give new work to the Aerospace and Automotive Energy Group should the turnaround specialist take it over."

This was another ridiculous empty threat from Airbus. Yesterday, there were GKN representatives around the boardroom table. We also undertook a visit to the GKN Western Approach facility where there was a lot of discussion regarding further investment in our area from both GKN and Airbus, as well as further collaboration between the two companies.

This morning I have spoken with*Government colleagues, who have confirmed that we are working closely with companies to understand their concerns ahead of leaving the EU and alongside industry will invest almost £4bn by 2026 to ensure the UK remains a world leader in civil aerospace.

On Monday, I will be meeting Greg Clark, the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, to discuss Airbus’ statement. The employment and wellbeing of my constituents as Member of Parliament for Filton and Bradley Stoke will always be my*highest*priority, and I am struggling to believe this sabre rattling from Airbus is helpful or credible".

Christ, this is desperate. You're posting the self-serving waffle of a Brexit jihadist MP caught out by the sudden realisation that vast numbers of his own constituents' livelihoods may well go up in smoke. No wonder he wants the gullible to believe in arcane conspiracy theories. His own job depends on it.

I notice it is only remainers insisting on trying to imply the "extremist" nature on the people who voted for Brexit.

It says more about you than it does about us who chose to vote to Leave the EU.

I personally definitely don't think the people who voted for Brexit are extremists driven by ideology above all else.

Though the way they express it is in a way I wouldn't choose to. In a free market economy companies are able to do the business where they want.

Its for the government to create the systems to have the people in situation in our country for the best companies to employ.

Like being party to the biggest free trade market in the world you mean? And gaining the educational and scientific grants from that body that allow us to excel in the fields that benefit business growth?

If only something like that existed, and we could join it for the benefit of the people in this country. If only.

'Flat out lie' would be a better way of putting it. Forty-seven of the world's poorest countries, including thirty-three in sub-Saharan Africa, have tariff-free entry into the EU for everything except guns. Yet Brexit Jihadists keep up their volume of noise on the idea that somehow the EU is a vast conspiracy against poorer countries.

As if the Jihadists could give a flying **** about poorer countries.

VERBAL

When did you last LIVE in one of the EU poorer countries? Never I expect. You have not got a clue what you are talking about. Try looking at other news than the BBC who moan on and on and especially Laura Kunnesburg with her monotone funeral parlour voice. We are all doomed.

Oh and please could all those people in the know who can predict the future give me next weeks winning lottery numbers? Thanks

What's your point and how does it relate specifically to the EU. None of your post, to the extent I can understand it, actually contradicts anything Verbal has said. Quite the opposite. You just appear to have the hump that Verbal is saying it. Bizarre.

So come on, then, take a deep breath and try again. Am all ears to the experiences and insights of an expat fat f**k who's probably sunning it up, living the life of Riley.

Wrong on both counts:

No organisation knows more about unfair competitive advantages than the EU. Take the example of the CAP that benefits EU farmers and food producers, to the detriment of poor farmers in Africa, for instance.

EU farmers are guaranteed a price for their sugar which is three times higher than the world price.

In 2014 Africa —the home of coffee— earned just £1.5 billion from the crop. Yet Germany, a leading processor, earned nearly double that from coffee re-exports. The reason for this is that Africa is punished by the EU with a 7.5 per cent tariff charge on roasted coffee but non-decaffeinated green coffee is exempt. As a result, the bulk of Africa’s export to the EU is unroasted green coffee and German manufacturers reap the rewards.

The charge on cocoa is even more debilitating as the EU tariff charge is a massive 30 per cent for processed cocoa products like chocolate bars or cocoa powder, and 60 per cent for some other refined products containing cocoa.

Wrong on both counts:

That extract was cut and paste from this article:

https://capx.co/how-the-eu-starves-africa-into-submission/

You'll see that the publishers have had to issue a clarification and apology because the author was fundamentally wrong on the tariff point. Pretty embarrassing stuff. By extension, you're also wrong, though you're no stranger to public embarrassments.

Jihadi John - seriously posting about politics and economics doesn't appear your thing. Maybe look for another hobby as long as it doesn't involve any reading or forecasting. For your sake pal.

Wrong on both counts:

Meanwhile, just to update my post with the latest information, courtesy of Lord Ridley and Professor Kevin Dowd:

There was an interesting argument in the House of Lords last week. Last Wednesday, April 18th, Viscount Ridley was speaking against the various wrecking amendments to the European Union (Withdrawal) Bill when Lord Hannay interrupted him:

“I just want to ask the noble Lord where he gets his idea that being in a customs union with the European Union will mean imposing tariffs on Africa when the European Union has zero tariffs on all African countries.” Lord Ridley responded: “The European Union has an external tariff. It applies to not all products from Africa, admittedly, but to a considerable number.”

Lord Ridley is correct. There are still plenty of tariffs against imports from African countries. To give some examples, consider the tariffs that the UK is obliged to apply to imports from Nigeria (as indeed are France, Germany and every EU member state). These include, among others:

15% tariffs on live animals

26% on meat and edible meat offal

31% on dairy produce, birds’ eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin not elsewhere specified or included

12% on edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers

18% on products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten

23% on preparations of fish and meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates

28% on sugars and sugar confectionery

18% on preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants

19% on tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes

And so on. More details can be found here. As another example, consider this screenshot showing UK tariffs on certain categories of orange imports (accessed April 22nd 2018: Note the date: 22nd April 2018. Scroll down and we find:

Egypt: a tariff of 45.90 Euros/100 kg

Morocco: a tariff of 56.20 Euros/100 kg

Tunisia: a tariff of 65.90 Euros/100 kg

Meanwhile, Gabon, Nigeria and the Republic of Congo are subjected to the EU’s general orange tariff of 64.40 Euros/100kg. The tariff schedules are there for all to see, and these are current tariffs. The claim that there are no EU tariffs against imports from African countries is demonstrably false. The fact is that the EU still has tariffs against imports from African countries – and way too many of them too.

So, to repeat, wrong on both counts and Mr. "Smart Money" is back on ignore for being a troll....

Brilliant.

Back to BrexitCentral. That was after Matt 'middle stump' 'I crashed Northern Rock' Ridley was made a fool in the House of Lords. So a ragbag, ill-informed list is put together which constitutes only a tiny fraction of the goods that are exported to the EU and includes outliers like Nigeria in order to save face. And now the strawman shifting of the goalposts becomes whether the EU is completely tariff-free across every single product line. Name me one country that meets that criteria?

More specifically, many of BrexitCentral's assertions are plain wrong and demonstrate a schoolboy understanding of how tariffs work. Others have done a much better job of explaining this:

https://mobile.twitter.com/Jim_Cornelius/status/988947573846216704

https://mobile.twitter.com/Jim_Cornelius/status/1008298638974562304

Needless to say, all this is galaxies away from the original claims of sweeping, across-the-board discrimination against poorer countries which remain a jihadist myth. Doesn't stop thicko footsoldiers like JJ from lapping it up and still being wrong

As for feigning concern for poorer countries, we know you're the same scumbag who'll happily cast aspersions over the behaviour/motives of immigrants and asylum seekers when it suits him.

And will likely continue to be for the foreseeable, minus the rebate of course.

but plus the additional costs of setting up a raft of new agencies. More bureaucracy, delays at borders, visas, paperwork, higher costs and loss of jobs and wealth . Thats what Brexiteers voted for right?

In which case that they already have to deal with multiple different regimes in multiple regions.

So what's the issue...

Believe it or not, the issue is that China is a teensy bit bigger than Brexitland. Their market for aircraft sales is enormous - hence both Airbus and Boeing compete in China partly by setting up finishing plants (mostly painting the exteriors and fitting the soft interiors). The plants exist there for the same reason Mercedes and BMW have plants in the southern US - to increase sales and market share in an economy (does this really need saying?) that dwarfs Britain's.

There's also a plant in China that furnishes wings for Airbus planes (as well as Chinese-built aircraft) - and they are actively campaigning for the British work, and have been ever since the referendum. They don't need eight years, or any time at all, to develop the skilled workforce to do this. And they'll get it if it comes to a straight fight between them and post 'Full British Brexit' (TM BoJo) UK. There just aren't any incentives to do otherwise, outside of colossal government subsidies.

When you finally get to grips with how a modern economy works, this will all become clear to you.

It would take 8 years to adequately train up and set up a replacement wing construction facility for Airbus.

Their release was purely EU propaganda

AIRBUs Cancelling all UK apprentice recruitment this year was not propaganda. They informed applicants two weeks ago, that’s high quality opperunitues for our youngsters gone, not a threat, not propaganda reality.

The whole Chinese stock market has been tanking of late, so it’s not just Lander.

In part it’s due to the fear of a trade war with the US but there’s also a domestic story. There’s been a surge in corporate defaults which is making everyone nervous: if bondholders are getting f**ked, what can shareholders who are lower down the food chain expect.

Hhmmmmm, doesn't seem like the most solid place to invest in ;)

I'm sure you'd get a more balanced view if you took the time to investigate it yourself.

The internet is your oyster.

I know full well about the levy -and there are many reasons for the fall in apprenticeship starts -some due to the inflexibility of the new system, especially for SMEs; some due to its tendency to weed out low-quality apprenticeships, among other reasons.

No I'm asking you about your assertion re. Airbus. You made it yet seemingly don't want to back it up.

Airbus probably have selfish ulterior motives behind their stance on Brexit, as do many others on both sides, ( including some posters on here ).

I prefer the Australian system:

The Australian system is no solution either and it is inhuman GM, I reckon you wouldn't mistreat those unfortunates yourself like the Australians do. With African Sub-Sahara going to hell the next decades (climate change, famine, war), tens of millions will be on the move towards Europe. The real solution is forced birth control but that's still a few steps too far for most people.

In the meantime it's getting messier within the EU, even Tusk and Juncker do not like each other at the moment while Merkel and Macron can't force their will on the other members. It appears the Schengen treaty is in real danger now...

Nothing to do with the apprentice levy. As someone who has designed and operated apprenticeships for 20 years the levy will benefit companies if they operate their apprenticeships properly, which I assure AIRBUS do and have done for many years. Typical LEAVER deflection tactic.
