Ryan Bertrand - 6th Player to Liverpool?

Paul Joyce of the Express, on of the more reliable journos for them lot says that Bertrand is being discussed as an alternative to Ben Chilwell, among other names.

Seems odd as the other day I read that they were looking for a young left back to mould, obviously Ryan doesn't fit that. However Joyce did mention that Ryan has a year left on his deal (I didn't realise that!), so perhaps he's implying they see him as an opportunity difficult to turn down.

Ugh if he goes, what's to stop van Djik going if Koeman comes knocking for him when Stones heads off to City? Who will we have left?

He's got 3 years left on his deal I thought?

Ah my mate who is a Liverpool fan said he doubted the link. Says he thinks the journos are name dropping Bertrand and Robertson as Liverpool are feinting moving on from Chilwell. He says they did a similar thing last summer with Benteke; claiming they were looking at Rondon and Bacca is a deal could be done.

So you saying the information is incorrect, makes his theory more plausible.

Thank god. Don't think I could take losing Bertrand, he's probably the player I'd want to lose least.

The next group to come in who you've probably never heard of, but .....

I would be amazed if Liverpool didn't fancy Bertrand, but the three years remaining on his contract means he would be very expensive indeed. One or possibly two years remaining and I suspect a bid would have already gone in.

Guan or K.Billy said Klopp likes him some time ago on here.

The sooner they get a left back on board, the happier I'll be.

Yep, Klopp hasn't being shy about letting everyone know just how much he admires our Berty. Though this very inaccurate piece has a whiff of the hypothetical about it, perhaps just a feeler from liverpool

He'd never move that far from London. His contract also runs out in 2019.

Would Targett be ready to step up if called upon? Would be consistent with going back to promoting youth, and with him, JWP and Redmond we have three from the England under 21 in our starting (maybe) line up.

He can fill a hole, he did that last season, but in terms of offering similar levels of performance or even the prospect of similar levels, I would say he is absolutely miles off. For me he struggled big style when played at left back. The difference when Ryan came back was clear for all to see. When Targett could hide at left wing back he was OK, he has a good first touch, composure and a half decent cross on him, but in flat back four his lack of pace is a major issue. Slow fullbacks get murdered and that's what all the best sides have players with pace in that position. That's half the reason we have done so well in recent times with Clyne and Bertrand never being exposed by pace.

Pretty spot on. The difference when Bertrand came back from injury and replaced Targett was huge. Bertrand pacy and position ally very aware. Targett slow and unaware. Can learn awareness, can't get pace. Everton showed what pace would do to him when they smashed us at home .

His move to left midfield was okay, good crosser of the ball, didn't do too badly. But not as good as Tadic in that position either.

This for me is the issue with some obsessive fans about promoting youth - it only works if you are improving the team by doing it, and from what I have seen, none of our youth currently would improve any position in our first team.

I think Liverpool should just sell up and buy saints lock stock and barrel

every ****ing season we lose our players to the bin dippers

at some point we need to tell them to do one

I think we see them as a steady source of income? If they get in the champions league and look at elsewhere at the real quality players who would buy our players? Everton may step in the short term depending on their success, maybe West Ham? The big four Only come to us if we have someone of real quality which we are unlikely to get...Spurs maybe? It's got to be a worry for the current strategy? ( I am not trying to be flippant just buying into the dream of our business model! )

And so it begins....again...not sure the article is factually correct in all aspects.....http://www.90min.com/posts/3384708-liverpool-reportedly-consider-yet-another-approach-for-a-southampton-player-in-ryan-bertrand?ref=1&team=southampton&utm_campaign=Southampton&utm_medium=fan_pages&utm_source=facebook.com.html

Would be absolutely fuming if Bertrand went. No need whatsoever to sell and with the money we've just made I imagine we'll already end up having one of the lowest spends in the league this summer. Targett is no where near ready to be starting every week.

That article is complete bullcrap. Come one guys and gals. Les Reed may be selling the club down the river again this summer but its only ambition we lack. We aren't gutting the whole squad again, just enough to line a few pockets why we stay top half.

I think I'll be a Sports Journalist.I don't have to know anything about football as all I have to do is make up stories with no substance whatsoever about any player I wish (I'll buy a Pannini book of stickers to find out who's who) and no doubt some idiot will believe it and say 'Haspers a reliable source' because he knows all the players names in the English Premier League.️'S
