Is the reason some people aren't excited about Puel being our new manager because he isn't a big name based on his own footballing career?

 

If we were on the verge of appointing Dennis Bergkamp, and he had Puel managerial record would everyone be wetting themselves in excitement?

 

Being a good pro footballer doesn't make you a better manager.

 

I have explained before but here goes - I think MPel was a better option based on his experience of managing in other countries, Europe league, his record in Spain.

He would have experience of managing Prem league players , contacts and experience.

Puel has only managed in France, his win ratio is nothing amazing and a long time since won anything.

I understand we want a training ground manager and the Southampton way and bringing on the academy - but you can only do that if you have the players to do that and I am not convinced we do at present - we may try and change that by adding some though it seems.

Puel does seem a good fit though going on what I have read - its a gamble but then so is every managerial appointment really - Howe at Burnley is a good example of that.

Nothing to do with big names in my opinion but we will see how he goes and will get my full support for whatever that is worth.

The only thing that puzzles and worries me a little about the Puel appointment is the fact that other candidates were seemingly discarded if they hadn't had experience of managing in more than one league and this guy has only managed in France.

Wasn't it 'team' not 'league'.

So what is the latest? Are there any itkers with any,updates as we still do not really know who it could be. I'm still hoping for Pellegrini.

 

I think you will find it's "all in place" and it is not Pellegrini

From what I have been told by a work colleague who's son in law works at SMS in a department head position there could be an announcement in the next 24 hours on the management front.

It used to be informative to receive info from certain ITK posters.......now even they seem to believe their own hype.

If you can't string a coherent sentence together don't bother.....attention seeking of the highest order.

They are clearly a couple of young kids in junior roles. If they pass on little bits of info then I don't care so much how they deliver the news.

Clearly want a manager who can turn not very good youth team into first team winners. Cheap, long term. Or do we think he'll bring decent signings?

The club have already said (via their pet jurno in the telegraph) Pellegrini was spoken to but wasn't the training ground coach they want. The club seem to specifically want a manager who gets out on the training ground and coaches players to improve them. I guess having spoken to a few candidates the club feel Puel fits that criteria.
