Master Bates Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 This isn't just any closing down sale.... ....this is an M&S closing down sale.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 No! I am hearing that 27 stores are to close.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 No joke, maybe even the thin end of the wedge, look here.
Um Bongo Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Hedge End will be safe, during the sales they were the top performing store in the country. Most of the stores are food places, which are at petrol stations etc.
Weston Super Saint Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Hedge End will be safe, during the sales they were the top performing store in the country. Most of the stores are food places, which are at petrol stations etc. Not just any old food places then?
Master Bates Posted 8 January, 2009 Author Posted 8 January, 2009 Not just any old food places then? No....... this is an M&S food places.
Scudamore Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 They better not close the simply food store in Westbourne...there'll be hell to pay...
Scummer Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 They better not close the simply food store in Westbourne...there'll be hell to pay... Not on the list of closures: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/pdfs/07_01_09_store_closures.pdf

Block 18 Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 That's excellent news... Not so much for the staff at Bracknell, Torquay, etc. to whom my sympathies go... Maybe if they had put a bit more effort and worked harder in promoting their store they would have made a profit and not be out of work now. Was that a bit harsh? or am I being a realist?
Gully Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 Maybe if they had put a bit more effort and worked harder in promoting their store they would have made a profit and not be out of work now. Was that a bit harsh? or am I being a realist? Tbf, most of them won't get payed to promote they get low wages to stack shelves and clean. Therefore as long as they were doing their jobs properly, which isn't hard, then they are unfortunate to loose their jobs.
St Landrew Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 To be honest, M&S have been barking up the wrong tree for ages. If they're not careful they'll end up in the same dilemma as Woolies was. No market of which they are the leader. Reputations count for nothing, and that this isn't just... this is M&S... advert series was/is a joke from start to finish IMO. Frankly, I cringe and reach for remote every time I see/hear it. John Lewis have shown them the way to go.
Hatch Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 M&S is dying because all their customers are dying and not being replaced.
bungle Posted 8 January, 2009 Posted 8 January, 2009 M&S is dying because all their customers are dying and not being replaced. I can confirm that I am a young person and shop in M&S. Part of this is because I am too fat to buy trousers in Next (they stop at a 38" waist, y'know). However, I don't often buy clothes, so they don't get that much money out of me. I did buy one of their cheese & onion sandwiches for lunch today, however.

bungle Posted 9 January, 2009 Posted 9 January, 2009 38"+ ??? You sure you only bought one cheese & onion sandwich? We have lots of cake etc in the office at the moment, so I didn't want to fill up on sandwich.
