shurlock Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Looked comfortable with Clasie and Romeu in the middle. Right-hand side more incisive with Martina and Redmond than the left hand side with VVD often looking there, though Redmond has moved about well. Jrod a bit quiet.
TwoPints Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 But but but... Redmond can't replace the amount of goals Mane scored apparently. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
SaintBitterne Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Team looking decent , Redmond looks sharp took both goals well

Suhari Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 So can we draw any conclusions from the first 45 minutes? Probably not.....! Full backs seem to be pushing up quite high, and JWP made a forward run into the box.
TwoPints Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 he probably wont. this is zwolle we are playing not arsenal How did I know you were going to say that ?. Promising start though so I can't see why he can't do it. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
beatlesaint Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 he probably wont. this is zwolle we are playing not arsenal yes exactly, let's not get carried away. This is only useful to see the formation and how we are looking to play under Puel.

I'm not sure it's getting carried away to suggest that Redmond can score 11 goals in a season. Looks a good bet for it to me. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk
jamesfp1 Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 I like the quick movement. Romeu can pass. Not a great half from jrod.
egg Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 I like the quick movement. Romeu can pass. Not a great half from jrod. Agreed. JRod just didn't get involved, hopefully he'll come good.
mulletsaint Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Agreed. JRod just didn't get involved, hopefully he'll come good. TBH I thought he looked sharp and pressed well. Was good in possession but wasn't as involved as Redmond. Saints only really played the first 15 mins and then the last 5. Austin finished well but looked generally untidy and failed to hold the ball up very well. Youngsters looking bright 2nd half.
ericofarabia Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 I guess they aren't expecting any trouble judging by all those white plastic chairs along the touchline #eurohooliganweaponofchoice ;-)

mulletsaint Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Second half promise has petered out much like the first half. Hopefully we get an end of half flurry from Saints again.
charliemiller Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Alfie Jones looks a good prospect reminds me of Fonte the way he plays
angelman Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Second half promise has petered out much like the first half. Hopefully we get an end of half flurry from Saints again. Rubbish, This 2nd half is much more important than the 1st in that it shows who might be able to make the step up. No petering out as this is pretty much the U21 playing so of course are going to be at a lower level.

It was merely a comment that the half had gone flat. The youngsters started the half very well but the performance dipped. It's still early pre-season so I'm not expecting anyone to be pulling up trees at this point, either youngsters or established names. FWIW Valery has looked promising again. Hojbjerg has improved over his cameo in the States. I think Olumola has something about him.
Sour Mash Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Hojbjerg can certainly travel with the ball, great close control and strolled past their players. Thought him, and the three centre mids that played the first half looked good. Zwolle were s**t though, really didn't test us much.
ericofarabia Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Our under under 18/21/23 team should be okay against L2 heavyweights Skatesmuff in the JPT or whatever it's called nowadays!!

He seemed to be playing a Morgan type holding / linkman role, but looked good on that jinking run leading up to the penalty.
VivaElTri Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 From what we have seen so far, are any youngsters ready to get a start in the PL?
washsaint Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 I thought McQueen looked good, Reed was tidy and Jones looked promising as did the Nigerian with unpronouncable name. Whether any of them are ready for the 1st team is a different story.

Saints foreva Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Right side much better than left. Very comfortable. Clasie and Romeu bossing it. Still nowhere near as good as Morgan and Wanyama from a couple seasons ago....
S-Clarke Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Still nowhere near as good as Morgan and Wanyama from a couple seasons ago.... And pointless post of the year goes to....
richardc Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 can anyone explain what Puel said about why Tadic was left out?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 can anyone explain what Puel said about why Tadic was left out? Dusan felt something in his leg so Claude took the decision to rest him for this game, but he should play against Twente next up. If not, he'll be fine for the final game in Holland.
S-Clarke Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 I must admit, I find it bloody hard to follow Claude. Not so much the accent, just the way he talks! I fall asleep 10 seconds in.
redder freak Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 2 goals and an assist from Redmond against a side that finished 8th in the Eredivisie last season. Looks pretty good to me.

Saints foreva Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 And pointless post of the year goes to.... Still true....
kjurwi Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Romeo assisted to the first goal. Austins goal that is.
nta786 Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Still nowhere near as good as Morgan and Wanyama from a couple seasons ago.... I do wonder how we finished sixth last season

Saint_clark Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 Alfie Jones looks a good prospect reminds me of Fonte the way he plays Think he won youngster of the year and was tipped to be one of the best prospects for a long time? Dusan felt something in his leg so Claude took the decision to rest him for this game, but he should play against Twente next up. If not, he'll be fine for the final game in Holland. Hopefully we see some training pics with him in next week otherwise the timing is a bit too convenient.

Monk Posted 23 July, 2016 Posted 23 July, 2016 How did Valery play tonight? Liked they way he played against DC. Very comfortable in possession during 1v1 and 1v2 which he dominated. Similar to Clyne with height.

Similar to Clyne with height. Very well. Neat and tidy on the ball. Knows where to position himself. Looked comfortable. Would like to see more going forward but seems a prospect.
baggytrousers Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Still nowhere near as good as Morgan and Wanyama from a couple seasons ago.... I think Morgan and Wanyama's ratings zero games into the season were about the same.
