Pre-Season (2016/17)

SuperSAINT

At the game. Not as much intensity from Saints as the Espanyol game. Redmond quieter in this game too although had a good effort that hit the wood work. Nice composed finish by Long for the goal. Looks like Fonte could be coming on at half time

Agree, although obviously hope he is great as no 10! Tadic seems to enjoy being 1-on-1 with a defender, turning them inside out and beating them. You have chance to do that as a winger but not so much centrally.

See now this I disagree with. Tadic is very good at beating a defender (unbalancing them) in a one versus one but doesn't get past a player which is what you want wingers to.

Tadic should be fine as a 10, only difference you'll see now is perhaps more shooting or inside channel through balls.

Better if he came on after HT. ;)

Maybe he doesn't "beat them" in terms of pace, but he usually finds enough space to put a decent cross in, I am often surprised how often he manages it - this is more what I meant, if he gets a ball into the box, surely he has done what he needs to, even if he hasn't raced clear of the defender.

So no losses in pre-season and what? 2 goals conceded and 10 goals scored in five games. Can't read to much into pre-season but that has to be good for the teams confidence going into our first league match.

Decent for a new manager with a new style of play.

So my thoughts again are a bit concerned that this diamond isn't suiting anyone but Tadic. Long relied on a quick pass he only got one and scored.

Not sure but players don't look happy no smiles at all although all celebrated goal.

Could be just me reading too much into it. Sjojberg and Romeu were good and the Juanmi replacement Redmond looks lively and creative.

I don't see the point in Charlie Austin getting the ball deep wide on half way line it's just a waste.

Bilbao technically good but I could have played in goal and Fraser didn't make a save.

Pied is Paul Telfer mk2 and is ok and did a job.

We have too many of same style and standard JWP,Reed, Clasie and Davis although the latter ahead of them but none of the other three do enough for a top 10 team for me.

We look solid but are 2 quality players away yet.

Ditch this diamond and play 4 4 fcking 2 :-) Tadic and Redmond wide Long and Austin up front Sjobjerg and Romeu central

Can't read anything into it. All teams are at different stages of fitness and we've played some poor teams anyway. Really don't care about the results yet. We know we have enough to beat watford but we'll need to create a bit more

err yeah I said that. Still better than losing all our pre-season games conceding 10 and scoring 2.....

Didnt we play 4-2-3-1 last season? wouldnt that suit the players more?

Something like,

Forster

Cedric - Fonte - Van Dijk- Bertrand

Hjobjerg - Romeu

Redmond - Davis - Tadic

Long

Hjobjerg and Romeu the new Wanyama/Schneiderlin.

On another thought, what about Clasie this season? Clearly a Koeman buy and with Davis, JWP and Reed who play pretty similair to him, do you see a future for

him at the club?

I think we played several formations last season one of Koeman's strength was that he was happy to change the game plan to get a result.

couldnt agree more, absolutely toothless in attack, not sure if it's the personnel or the system though.

I think 4 2 3 1 would suit more players than this current formation does.

As for Clasie someone said he hoped Everton came in for him and I can't argue with that. I am so wanting him to do well but although he reads it well and can pass locally so can Reed and JWP who can take a set piece yet am struggling to see what he offers to start him.

I'd agree with that. Hope Pool isn't too wedded to one formation. Koeman's strength was not just using same same when things weren't working. I remember going to 3 5 2, for example.

Could also switch mid game.

Like many others, I think we need a target man to give us another option. Just seen Monolo Gabiadini suggested from Napoli , but no idea really.

I hope we are not going to be this seasons (LvG's) man united.

all about holding the ball and blunt up top for playing players out of their natural position.
