Lighthouse Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Still true....  Better than Gillett and Wotton from 2008.
Charlie Wayman Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 So who gets left out of mid-field? The three playing yesterday looked settled and good with a good understanding already so on this showing will be first choice to start so where will Davis & Højbjerg fit in? If the six Euro 16 absentees do not get game time in Holland, will they be automatic starters or will they have to fight for their places and how will this affect this pre-season bonding? Wonder how we'll line up against Watford, will Puel place faith in what he has seen in pre-season or take a flyer on the returning internationals doing their stuff from the get-go? There are some big challenges ahead for M Puel.
angelman Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 **** me. Are you always so negative about everything in non football matters?

Pal you make it sound like Puel is being to forced to break up a title-winning team, not a makeshift side that has played two halves of preseason football (and not even that) against patchy opposition. You do talk some ****.

Bear in mind we will be playing Europa League matches and we are in the fortunate position where Puel could pick a completely different midfield from one match to the next and still have plenty of quality about it.
angelman Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Question that interests me is whether RK was right in saying that the U21 were all crap. Personally, and I know it is only a pre-season friendly, I thought that some did OK 2nd half and could be brought through.
ecuk268 Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Still nowhere near as good as Morgan and Wanyama from a couple seasons ago.... Still nowhere near as good as Case and Cockerill from a couple of decades ago.
Fan The Flames Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 he probably wont. this is zwolle we are playing not arsenal So Redmond has the grand total of 1 goal against Arsenal to beat.

Personally, and I know it is only a pre-season friendly, I thought that some did OK 2nd half and could be brought through. Unlike the pre season games where all the under 21s seem to play one half together. During the season you are looking for players to come in and do a job for a game or two while surrounded by seasoned pros I'm sure a lot of our under 21s wouldn't embarrass themselves in those circumstances.
Batman Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Spot on. If you take one technically gifted u21 player and put him in amongst our first team, he will more than likely look the part and flourish. It's exciting to focus on youth again. A lot of people in and around the club are v happy again. Any news on transfers and Tadic?
The Cat Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Any news on transfers and Tadic? Because what anyone with links to the club wants is to be asked for news every time they pop up with a post unrelated to transfers/contracts. Be patient.
SuperSAINT Posted 24 July, 2016 Author Posted 24 July, 2016 FC Twente next then. #ZiyechWatch is going to go into over-drive

Big Dick Last Posted 24 July, 2016 Posted 24 July, 2016 Just back from Holland. Great trip as usual and too much beer drunk as usual. Couple of days of detox then back out on Wednesday. As for the game. 1st half we completely dominated. Some nice quick passing and some rally nice movement from the front 3. 2nd half we lost the intensity. Zwolle were poor but we rarely troubled them in the 2nd half. Only 1st real game of pre season so plenty of game time to come. I do think though that some of our youngsters will be on the fringes this season and may be better off going out on loan to play more competitive football.
suewhistle Posted 25 July, 2016 Posted 25 July, 2016 Just back from Holland. Didn't hear you. ;-) What did you think of Yann Valery, the young full back? Think he's only 17 but had something about him.
richardc Posted 25 July, 2016 Posted 25 July, 2016 does anyone know what time the games are on Weds and Sat cheers

About 15 of us managed to get through the road blocks, riot police and the mayors personal protection unit so felt we should keep a low profile in the ground :-) Would need to see how he fared against better opposition.

Good news.

Sour Mash Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 There is some great ticketing business going on for fans, I'm liking it. This is a great deal, the Sunderland Membership deal was an utter shambles.
the_emu Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 Can't see anything on interweb about time of tonights kick off and/or if it will be on Saints youtube channel. Anyone got any news?

The9 Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 Those who have already bought the Bilbao tickets, also get the other match free, using the same ticket. Good news. Bad news for people who don't want to cart a ticket around with them and have to get it home again. The worst thing about it is the "unreserved seating for Espanyol" rule, you're going to get loads of helmets thinking they've booked their seat for both...
the_emu Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 It's tomorrow... Hah, that's a good reason why... thanks. For some reason was thinking it was Wednesday today.
JRM Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 Bad news for people who don't want to cart a ticket around with them and have to get it home again. The worst thing about it is the "unreserved seating for Espanyol" rule, you're going to get loads of helmets thinking they've booked their seat for both... We have got a large number of fans incapable of understanding basic instructions as I witnessed last year with the print at home tickets causing delays at turnstiles but I think we'll be fine for this one. It is a fantastic deal , £2 matches for £8 and fans will be eager to welcome Monsiuer Puel , Black and Plonk along with the new players but I doubt we'll have more than 10,000 at the game and if they open a few stands will be plenty of space to spread out. I reckon they'll do a combined match programme as well as ticket stub.
Slugger Posted 26 July, 2016 Posted 26 July, 2016 Looks like Puel is quite hands on in the training sessions. Interesting to hear him speaking in French to the players with presumably Eric Black translating for them where needed, although a lot is obvious through body language and signals. All seems high tempo. https://grabyo.com/g/v/HUF1DxWql6d
Andy Durman Posted 27 July, 2016 Posted 27 July, 2016 Nice goal by Redmond. Jay-rod will be like a new player this season. Club just waiting for the right moment to feed in the positive news about Tadic.

Wimborne_saint Posted 27 July, 2016 Posted 27 July, 2016 Lewis, Yoshida, Martina, Van Dijk, Hojbjerg, Clasie, Reed, McQueen, Tadic, J-rod, Austin Nice to see Pierre starting, although looks like he could be playing in the back four?

Saint-Reece Posted 27 July, 2016 Posted 27 July, 2016 Can McQueen actually play at left wing back ? I think puel has played him at Left Back in the last 2 games of pre season
AllSorts Posted 27 July, 2016 Posted 27 July, 2016 Can McQueen actually play at left wing back ? Sam has played there last two matches. He started as a left back at Saints when he was 8. Swopped with Luke Shaw to left wing at 12/13yrs. Knows the position and has shown he can tackle last couple of games. I reckon he can but then I'm biased
angelman Posted 27 July, 2016 Posted 27 July, 2016 Not a great start. Not sure, thankfully, that Martina/Yoshida would be a natural choice
