DT Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-beat-leicester-transfer-race-8218986 Goodbye you mercenary
OldNick Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Very good acquisition for Spurs, they will be a force again next season. The price seems a bargain to me, especially with lots of money around. Spurs doing business early, the best way i would think
DT Posted 17 June, 2016 Author Posted 17 June, 2016 He's a big loss. Protects the defence well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DT Posted 17 June, 2016 Author Posted 17 June, 2016 £11m way too little. Hate spurs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dellman Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Wanyama is no more of a mercenary than any of the others. The difference is that we will find him harder to replace than any of the others. Poch knows a good thing when he sees one, unfortunately
angelman Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Good player with often a poor attitude and lax discipline. Got us dumped out of Europe last year, which I haven't really forgiven. Hope he finds the grass greener in London.
Wade Garrett Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 We will miss his suspensions. Replaceable. Didn't want to be here, will struggle to get in the Spurs side ahead if Dier and Dembele.
nta786 Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Agreed with the sentiments, they have got a great player for that price. He fits them perfectly I'd say. Whilst a big loss, maybe our new manager doesn't need that big destroyer type player in the middle I do think his passing is suspect, maybe why Arsenal didn't go for him, and attitude before Europe game is what sours it for me, no one gives Clyne brief even though he did same thing but that is because Clyne gave his all every game.
eurosaint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Agree it's a big loss but absolutely nothing we could do about it ! In this day and age with one year left and refusal to sign a new contract, you just have to cash in ! Sad but true !

trousers Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 How come The Mirror couldn't manage to shoe-horn a "meltdown" into that article? They must be slipping.

angelman Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 How long do people really expect players to stay with us? Me, I say 3 years. He's done that. He's moving. So be it.
Saint IQ Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 I was hoping to get a little more for him and get a bidding war going, ah well see ya you greedy Kenyan.
DT Posted 17 June, 2016 Author Posted 17 June, 2016 We will miss his suspensions. Replaceable. Didn't want to be here, will struggle to get in the Spurs side ahead if Dier and Dembele. Really? Who do we replace him with? Can't think of a better breaker up of play Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Batman Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 I was hoping to get a little more for him and get a bidding war going, ah well see ya you greedy Kenyan. he is going to a club with champions league football. why not?
Toadhall Saint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Big loss but I'm confident we will replace him
nta786 Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 arsenal didnt go for him as they dont need him He could have replaced Arteta
trousers Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Agree it's a big loss but absolutely nothing we could do about it ! That won't stop the usual suspects (journos, pundits, etc) labelling us a "selling club" as if we have a choice in the matter. Hey ho. We march on etc
CB Fry Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Massive part of our progress over the last three years. Good luck to him. He's no more a mercenary than any player who decides to join us this summer. Will be tough to replace but I trust Didier Deschamps and the new management team to know exactly who to go after.
Wade Garrett Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Really? Who do we replace him with? Can't think of a better breaker up of play Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Mendy, Gueye, he's just a tackler who can't pass, and spends more time in the stands suspended than on the pitch.
Saint IQ Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Celtic get around 20% of that £11m too Small change to us.
Winnersaint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Three years with us so I reckon he's done his bit. A transfer to a club in the Champions League probably suits his career progression which he is entitled to pursue, just like anyone else. Move on.

A transfer to a club in the Champions League probably suits his career progression which he is entitled to pursue, just like anyone else. Move on. Very true. I don't begrudge him the move (I just wish we got more ££'s for him) - But to be honest - Around £11m or £12m was realistic with a year to go. Not to mention, there was hardly a bidding war.
Nordic Saint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-beat-leicester-transfer-race-8218986 Goodbye you mercenary Shouldn't Reed at least do the new manager the courtesy of waiting for him to arrive before selling our players? I hope that we can maintain the progress we made under Koeman but I'm beginning to get concerned about the increasing level of Reed's interference in managerial duties.

MarkSFC Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 11m does seem a little low but it always seems to me that prices the so called 'big clubs' pay for 'smaller club" players is always slanted in favour of the bigger club........we never really know the fees where Saints are concerned. He's been a good player but limited in his ability, great in slow paced games and when we have a lot of possession but against fast players and when we are under pressure a lot he struggles particularly when he gets turned and is running back to goal. I'm sure we will get better or at least someone more mobile if not quite so brutal. Romeu is tough enough. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
doddisalegend Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Shouldn't Reed at least do the new manager the courtesy of waiting for him to arrive before selling our players? I hope that we can maintain the progress we made under Koeman but I'm beginning to get concerned about the increasing level of Reed's interference in managerial duties. Why? Victor has been angling for a move for the last two seasons we held on to him as long as we could we cash in now while he still has some worth and move on.
Window Cleaner Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Unfollowed on twitter. That'll teach him. Wow, the ultimate sign of discontent. Bit harsh.
S-Clarke Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Not sure why people think the fee is low, he's got 12 months left and buyers know we'd want to shift him this summer. Been massive for us for the last 3 years, so thanks for that. But the fact he refused/mind wasn't set to play in our crucial EL games says a lot about him. He's a good player, but I don't think 'bigger clubs' will have the same level of patience we had with regards to his passing etc. I'm sure he'll do alright, but I don't think he's a CL level player.
doddisalegend Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 What did we pay for him £12 million? if we get £11 million back with one year left on his contract that's not a bad return. Contract length makes a big difference people wanting lots of money for Vic are being unrealistic.
hutch Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 I'm sure he'll do alright, but I don't think he's a CL level player. Apart from the goal against Barcelona in the CL
Toadhall Saint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Shouldn't Reed at least do the new manager the courtesy of waiting for him to arrive before selling our players? I hope that we can maintain the progress we made under Koeman but I'm beginning to get concerned about the increasing level of Reed's interference in managerial duties. RK was head coach and part of the decision making - he did not have final say. He knew VW was going we all did Reed just oversaw the process - your view on managerial duties is somewhat antiquated imo
Marching Halos Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Apart from the goal against Barcelona in the CL cuco score one of the best goals of the season against arsenal.... doesnt mean he will do it again!
Webby Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 So, ambrose, Ledley and commons played in that game too. Not what I'd call CL players either. Vic had a blinder that night but that's him all over. Doesn't do it every week.
sadoldgit Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Shouldn't Reed at least do the new manager the courtesy of waiting for him to arrive before selling our players? I might be making a huge assumption here, but I am getting the distinct impression that you don't like Les Reed?
Toadhall Saint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 I might be making a huge assumption here, but I am getting the distinct impression that you don't like Les Reed? Not just you getting that impression SOG
S-Clarke Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 TBH I think everyone and his dog knew that VW was off this year, so it doesn't matter who the manager is - it would still happen.
hasper57saint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 His head has been at WHL for a while now. We've cashed in on his discontent. He'll have a struggle for games but he should be OK.Can't say 'see you Vic' as he may not be chosen!
stedje Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Don't know why Spurs want him. He is way too slow on the ball and doesn't suit them. We will miss him unless we replace him.
Chalkboy Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 No surprise. I'd have been more shocked had he gone somewhere else. He's done his bit just like Clyne did, and just like Clyne I'll hopefully forget all about him.
eelpie Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 cuco score one of the best goals of the season against arsenal.... doesnt mean he will do it again! Nothing like cool optimism
doddisalegend Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 TBH I think everyone and his dog knew that VW was off this year, so it doesn't matter who the manager is - it would still happen. Exactly doesn't want to be here so that's that.
VectisSaint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Shouldn't Reed at least do the new manager the courtesy of waiting for him to arrive before selling our players? I hope that we can maintain the progress we made under Koeman but I'm beginning to get concerned about the increasing level of Reed's interference in managerial duties. Its becoming clearer than it was before that as a club we are not able to keep players or managers, we are not attractive enough long term and Les Reed (and others) are not persuasive enough of the club's ambitions (probably because our ambitions are not as great as the Board would like us to believe). Of course, we will no doubt replace Victor with some one else and maybe it will work out, and maybe it won't. Really bad in my opinion not to at least wait until we have a new manager in place, and even worse to agree to sell him to Spurs. But making a profit is the goal nowadays.
