Saint IQ Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 A Saints player captaining his country to a victory in a Major Championship! Mr consistent and you would struggle to find a more humble down to earth player in football today. One of my favourite ever saints players. Have we ever had a player while captaining their nation to a victory in the Euros or World Cup?
tpbury Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 I like him as well, but I thought he wasn't playing when I listened to the commentary on the way home - never mentioned!
positivepete Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 I was at the game, as were a few other Saints fans. He led his team magnificently, worked his socks off as usual, and when it mattered looked a class above the others on both sides.
austsaint Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 Count me in...I love the guy; really good player who combines graft with lovely deft touches. Down to earth, modest and likeable.
ringwood Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 Has to be one of the club's best signings, certainly under the current ownership,
nta786 Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 The unsung hero, underrated by everyone except us fans, what he brings is invaluable, and it isn't just about the goals and assists. Love him! I hope NI go far.
Whitey Grandad Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 A great professional who we're lucky to have. I'm very pleased for him.
Toomer Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 I can't understand why some on here slag him off 90% of the time he is a stand out player.
Spoonman Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 He was excellent yesterday. Typical SD performance. Would love to see NI get a result against Germany...
Daft Kerplunk Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Said it before and I'll say it again, when Steven Davis plays well, we also play well. He's one of our most important players.
Dig Dig Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 The gulf in class between him and his NI team mates is ridiculous. Very cultured player.
doddisalegend Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Has to play a very different game for NI than us much more work off the ball than he is used to with saints.
sadoldgit Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Great to see him getting his just rewards in the game. As others have said, very much an unsung hero for us and clearly as proud as punch to lead his country at the Euros. Top man!
WealdSaint Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 A good player and a fantastic role model for younger Saints/NI Fans
Chez Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 maybe one below par game in all the games since he was here. Brilliant first touch and ability to keep the ball and get out of tight spaces. Obviously he has certain limitations if you want to criticise him, but if you prefer to look at the positives there are lots to his game.
Marsdinho Posted 17 June, 2016 Posted 17 June, 2016 Great to see him being played in his proper position, and not as a number 10.
Saint IQ Posted 19 June, 2016 Author Posted 19 June, 2016 Glad to see the board saw this thread and decided to give him a new contract, shall I make a Sadio Mane appreciation thread next?
