James Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 He doesn't really say anything. All sensationalised from the title of the article. He doesn't suggest he's going to follow him to Everton just that he is disappointed to see him go. Nothing to see here I don't think.
angelman Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 He certainly hasn't raised my wrath, and saying "progressing" on his career just means moving on. Typical gutter press misinterpreting his words to form a sensationalist headline.
haydnthomasSFC Posted 15 June, 2016 Author Posted 15 June, 2016 "he obviously has an opportunity to progress" that certainly does not inspire confidence in what he thinks of our ambition
pluto Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Merely stated how Koeman views it and totally nothing in it. typical gutter journo scum
buctootim Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-star-risks-fans-wrath-8189633?ICID_mirror_MF what do people make of his comments? I wouldnt actually mind if we sold Long to Everton. They would pay top money and Long's game is all about running and pace in order to stretch defences - and at 29 thats a limited shelf life.
James Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 He certainly hasn't raised my wrath, and saying "progressing" on his career just means moving on. Typical gutter press misinterpreting his words to form a sensationalist headline. Absolutely - makes me even more angry when it says 'but he could be joining him'. There are absolutely no quotes to support that just some vague reference to Long being on Koeman's wish list with no consideration of the fact we a) wouldn't want to see or b) Long might not want to go.
Chalkboy Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Nothing wrong with his comments imo. As has been said above, the press sensationalise everything, otherwise it's a bit of a non-story. What should he have said "meh, he was alright. He wasn't that interested in me to be honest until Graziano got injured, and I saved his neck"?
ErwinK1961 Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Seeing as he came to us in the first place as he wanted to move South again to be nearer family, I can't see him moving to Everton. Not that the article has any substance for this anyway.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 He doesn't really say anything. All sensationalised from the title of the article. He doesn't suggest he's going to follow him to Everton just that he is disappointed to see him go. Nothing to see here I don't think. Agreed journalists ask a question and take an innocent answer and reach all sorts of far fetched conclusions
sadoldgit Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 What are players supposed to say when their manager moves on? "Good riddance, he was a c**t?" I wouldn't read too much into any player quotes coming out at the moment.
alpine_saint Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Complete sh*t stirring by the Mirror. This article stand-alone has left me totally unfazed.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Hasn't really said anything, for me. It's a collection of footballer speak bingo phrases probably spoken without much thought being meant or applied. Then again, I thought Ronald was being sincere in his wish to see out his contract, so what do I know about translating what's said into what's meant.
whelk Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 What are players supposed to say when their manager moves on? "Good riddance, he was a c**t?" I wouldn't read too much into any player quotes coming out at the moment. language SOG! all this forum debating has corrupted you
corky morris Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Is that The Mirror that Koeman writes for????????????
Toadhall Saint Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 He certainly hasn't raised my wrath, and saying "progressing" on his career just means moving on. Typical gutter press misinterpreting his words to form a sensationalist headline. This. Can we have a count of the SFC players that will be RKs targets? He must be taking half the first team already.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 I wouldnt actually mind if we sold Long to Everton. They would pay top money and Long's game is all about running and pace in order to stretch defences - and at 29 thats a limited shelf life. Don't get me wrong I like long , particularly his attitude . He did well at the end of the season , but let's be honest he's not top quality . I think him & Austin ( if fit) could be a real handful , but if we're going to play one up top , his finishing isn't good enough .
Beckenham Saint Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Weird how they make the jump from "I wish him all the best" to "but could be joining him at Everton, writes Paul O'Hehir."
sadoldgit Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 language SOG! all this forum debating has corrupted you I know Whelk, it gets to us all in the end!
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Its a rag.. nothing more than poor quality toilet paper...
eelpie Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Koeman has been instrumental in Long's progress since January. But Long must also have been frustrated for a long time beforehand when RK was not giving him starts. So I am not worried that Long will follow him to Everton.
pangy Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Everton looking at buying a 30yo midfielder that has no prem experience.....I thought they were going to be competing with the euro giants for the best players around??
eelpie Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 This. Can we have a count of the SFC players that will be RKs targets? He must be taking half the first team already. No thanks
Professor Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Long is under contract for two more seasons but that couldn't be mentioned by the Mirror because it would have made the article look rather silly. Not mentioning makes it silly any way. Players should be schooled in saying no comment to journalists because whatever they do say will always be used and twisted for the the media's own purpose and not to the advantage of the person they talk to.
hasper57saint Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Strange that Long didn't feature much in RK's teams* until Pelle got injured. It's yet another piece of rumour-mongering on behalf of the Mirror hacks,RK,Darren Lewis,Paul O'Hehir (who?) among a number of Saints attackers.HYS on the BBC website yesterday was full of the usual c-rap. *Long...11 runs from the bench *Pelle... 3 runs from the bench. That's not to say Long didn't make an impact but it took a long time for him to become first choice. Source..Final Day match prog stats.
Pancake Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 If he doesn't like it, he can F**k off too Drinking early?
landford.saint Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 This. Can we have a count of the SFC players that will be RKs targets? He must be taking half the first team already. You sussed it TS... For Everton to reach 6th place, they are buying the manager and players who finished 6thlace the season before. Simple. As SOG said above. What are the going to say. "Koeman was an arrogant muppet, and we are all chuffed to see the back of him" Even if true they wil just tow he party line and say how they will miss him.
Secret Site Agent Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-star-risks-fans-wrath-8189633?ICID_mirror_MF what do people make of his comments? I was waiting for this to turn up. It's just a bit of click bait based on his interview ahead of the Sweden game with some....well a lot of embellishments. I was going to do one of my legendary satirical posts on it but haven't had time. pay of no mind.
Micky Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Complete sh*t stirring by the Mirror. This article stand-alone has left me totally unfazed. Been on the waccybaccy Alps? This sort of news normally sends you into a flat spin and meltdown!!! ? Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
scotty Posted 15 June, 2016 Posted 15 June, 2016 Seeing as he came to us in the first place as he wanted to move South again to be nearer family, I can't see him moving to Everton. Not that the article has any substance for this anyway. That's exactly what I thought. He moved to the south to be near his wifes family, didn't he? Why would he want to head back north? Let's face it, he can't be struggling by on the pittance we're paying him, he's a regular starter for his national team, and he'd be moving to a club who finished below us and don't have european football next season. I'd be very surprised if this happens.
georgeweahscousin Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 Total non-story. Anyone 'progresses' their career by moving anywhere. I do fear for Long though, but I don't think he'll be looking for a move. A new manager may not rate him though, Koeman's style suited him, and it took him a while to figure that out.

doddisalegend Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 Unless the new manager is a certain MoN post Euros? Just signed a new contract with the republic to take him through to the World cup.
georgeweahscousin Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 Unless the new manager is a certain MoN post Euros? I would be finished with football if that happened.

I hope the new manager likes Long enough to extend his contract. I think that with the right coaching to further improve his accuracy, which isn't too bad now, he could become a Saints great.
norwaysaint Posted 16 June, 2016 Posted 16 June, 2016 I like Long, but I would love to see Everton fans' reactions if Koeman's first signing was Shane Long for about 15m.
Sheaf Saint Posted 20 June, 2016 Posted 20 June, 2016 http://readsouthampton.com/2016/06/20/shane-long-set-to-sign-new-contract/ Just came across this on FB. No idea as to its validity mind, as I have never seen this website before.
