Long's Comments on Koeman

He doesn't really say anything. All sensationalised from the title of the article. He doesn't suggest he's going to follow him to Everton just that he is disappointed to see him go. Nothing to see here I don't think.

He certainly hasn't raised my wrath, and saying "progressing" on his career just means moving on. Typical gutter press misinterpreting his words to form a sensationalist headline.

Absolutely - makes me even more angry when it says 'but he could be joining him'. There are absolutely no quotes to support that just some vague reference to Long being on Koeman's wish list with no consideration of the fact we a) wouldn't want to see or b) Long might not want to go.

Nothing wrong with his comments imo. As has been said above, the press sensationalise everything, otherwise it's a bit of a non-story. What should he have said "meh, he was alright. He wasn't that interested in me to be honest until Graziano got injured, and I saved his neck"?

Agreed journalists ask a question and take an innocent answer and reach all sorts of far fetched conclusions

What are players supposed to say when their manager moves on? "Good riddance, he was a c**t?" I wouldn't read too much into any player quotes coming out at the moment.

language SOG! all this forum debating has corrupted you

This.

Can we have a count of the SFC players that will be RKs targets? He must be taking half the first team already.

I wouldnt actually mind if we sold Long to Everton. They would pay top money and Long's game is all about running and pace in order to stretch defences - and at 29 thats a limited shelf life.

Don't get me wrong I like long , particularly his attitude . He did well at the end of the season , but let's be honest he's not top quality . I think him & Austin ( if fit) could be a real handful , but if we're going to play one up top , his finishing isn't good enough .

Koeman has been instrumental in Long's progress since January. But Long must also have been frustrated for a long time beforehand when RK was not giving him starts. So I am not worried that Long will follow him to Everton.

Long is under contract for two more seasons but that couldn't be mentioned by the Mirror because it would have made the article look rather silly. Not mentioning makes it silly any way.

Players should be schooled in saying no comment to journalists because whatever they do say will always be used and twisted for the the media's own purpose and not to the advantage of the person they talk to.

Strange that Long didn't feature much in RK's teams* until Pelle got injured. It's yet another piece of rumour-mongering on behalf of the Mirror hacks,RK,Darren Lewis,Paul O'Hehir (who?) among a number of Saints attackers.HYS on the BBC website yesterday was full of the usual c-rap.

*Long...11 runs from the bench

*Pelle... 3 runs from the bench. That's not to say Long didn't make an impact but it took a long time for him to become first choice.

Source..Final Day match prog stats.

You sussed it TS...

For Everton to reach 6th place, they are buying the manager and players who finished 6thlace the season before. Simple.

As SOG said above. What are the going to say.

"Koeman was an arrogant muppet, and we are all chuffed to see the back of him"

Even if true they wil just tow he party line and say how they will miss him.

I was waiting for this to turn up. It's just a bit of click bait based on his interview ahead of the Sweden game with some....well a lot of embellishments.

I was going to do one of my legendary satirical posts on it but haven't had time.

pay of no mind.

Seeing as he came to us in the first place as he wanted to move South again to be nearer family, I can't see him moving to Everton. Not that the article has any substance for this anyway.

That's exactly what I thought. He moved to the south to be near his wifes family, didn't he? Why would he want to head back north? Let's face it, he can't be struggling by on the pittance we're paying him, he's a regular starter for his national team, and he'd be moving to a club who finished below us and don't have european football next season. I'd be very surprised if this happens.

Total non-story.

Anyone 'progresses' their career by moving anywhere.

I do fear for Long though, but I don't think he'll be looking for a move. A new manager may not rate him though, Koeman's style suited him, and it took him a while to figure that out.

Unless the new manager is a certain MoN post Euros?

I hope the new manager likes Long enough to extend his contract. I think that with the right coaching to further improve his accuracy, which isn't too bad now, he could become a Saints great.
