Window Cleaner Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Well that's what the OS would have you believe anyway. Saga and McG could form a right good partnership.
mitch01 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Both have got a habit of disappearing. Saga was so poor last season but I suppose he's worth a run in the team. Beggars can't be choosers.
Rocker268 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Best news for a while although he didnt score much last season he showed the season before (looking for a contract or not) that he can score at this level which is just what we need! edit: plus from what I can remember from the last game last season he was my man of the match
surrey1saint Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 (edited) Well he has got be worth a try IMO.So good news. I for one will welcome him back with open arms! I am now looking forward to this game a little more now...COYR! Edited 7 January, 2009 by surrey1saint

McG can score, we know that but he needs someone to take the pressure off him. saga holds the ball up well and creates time and space. If he goes straight back in on Saturday we could come out on the plus side of the ledger. It's only Barnsley ffs;););)
Bailey Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11187 Good to hear that Saga will be considered. I believe he could do a better job out wide right than as the lone striker, but to have him playing at all would be a bonus. Here's hoping he can rediscover the form from when he joined us on loan originally. We could certainly do with his goals anyway!
Junction 9 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Says he scored 5 times, but in how many games?
Micky Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Can't say that I'm particularly overwhelmed - but I guess 'something is always better than nothing'.
LGTL Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Will be a disaster to play him upfront on his own. Can't see Jan swallowing his pride though.
Window Cleaner Posted 7 January, 2009 Author Posted 7 January, 2009 Will be a disaster to play him upfront on his own. Can't see Jan swallowing his pride though. He won't play upfront on his own. He'll form a tandem with McG. Think about how a tandem works.
West End Saint Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 I hope he plays I doubt he would if Patterson wasn't suspended Saga has goals in him his 1st season with us he was good I hope he has the desire and we get 3 much needed points can't say I feel that confident for a win but you never know with Saints
Micky Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 He won't play upfront on his own. He'll form a tandem with McG. Think about how a tandem works. My experience of a tandem is that the guy at the front does all the peddling and works his butt off, while the guy at the back sits and does naff all because his 'partner' can't see his skiving, idle ways. I take it DMG will be on the back then...!!!
exit2 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 The way I see it is that is saga is on £6/7 k a week, they will ship him out if they can on loan so dont be surprised if he is here for much longer in January. Or if he does play then he plays out of his skin, and puts himself in the shop window for ahis last deal ever someone else
TheSaint75 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Maybe McG will learn how to hold the ball up and run the channels playing alongside Saga and maybe able to play that position when Saga goes elsewhere
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 I really hope Saints are serious about using him because boy do we need some inspiration from somewhere. I'd like to see him played in the hole, just off the central striker, particularly if Lallana is sold.
saintwarwick Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Remember his hat trick at Wolves guys! Absolutely and what a brilliant day, the season we had an abundance of strikers in Saganowski, Rasiak, John and BWP all chipping in with double figures and now we have....McGoldrick. Say's it all really, Saga has to play end of.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 He will be substitute at best... As McGoldp r i c k will always be picked ahead of anyone...
Chez Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Absolutely and what a brilliant day, the season we had an abundance of strikers in Saganowski, Rasiak, John and BWP all chipping in with double figures and now we have....McGoldrick. Greenridge Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 your `messiah' is back. I await the miracle. Not sure the reason behind your flippant post Chez but I think it's hard to disagree that he's not better than what we've got. However unless he get's some service he won't score, simple. Let's hope he does get a run and bangs a few in, that's what we all want I'm sure.
paulwantsapint Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 If Saga can score I dont care if he plays rb he has got to prove to the rest of football that he is worth a big wage move come july
saintwarwick Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 John wasn't playing for us that season it was Kenny Jones and Leom Best. My bad, I intended typing Jones but somehow typed John instead:confused: By the way it was Kenwyne Jones and Leon Best
eelpie Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 IF true, thank goodness for some sanity at last from the Lowe ranch. If true.

However unless he get's some service he won't score, simple. Let's hope he does get a run and bangs a few in, that's what we all want I'm sure. In short I don't rate him and I feel he is another player that has got better the longer he hasn't played. IMO he is another Scott Dobie - one season wonder. Despite what people tell me on here I don't think he works harder than BWP or any other striker, he doesn't hold the ball up well, in fact he gives it away cheaply and often. Add to that he's crap in the air, offers no pace, can't beat a man and offers little strength or physical presence. None of this matters if he scores goals but I don't think he will get them. What I do expect is to hear a lot of excuses on here about not being match fit, needing a run of games, needing a big man next to him, needing better service etc etc. I have gone out on a limb here especially as strikers, more than any of player, have the ability to stuff critical words back down the throats of oiks like me. I hope he does as I want the best for the side, but that is my opinion of Saga.
team-saint Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Scored 41 in 67 for Legia Warsaw so that shows he can be a consistent goalscorer. His has had several seasons with very poor goalscoring records in the past but hopefully he will hit form this time. I actually think he was unlucky last season. Didn't get a proper run in the team until Pearson came then he played quite well. I know he made 30 appearances in total which seems like enough but he was in and out for most the season and made a lot of late sub appearances.

Thanks for your reply, I tend to agree with much of what you've said however I still think he's better than what we've got. I will add the caveat though and that being without service he's got no chance. Let's hope eh. 4-4-2 wouldn't hurt either.

With players like Holmes and Smith as our supply line I don't see too many chances though. Neither are anywhere near good enough. If Saga plays he will get my full support but if things don't work out you can bet it won't be his fault.
L1Minus10 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 I'd play him up front with Euell. No chance I guess.... I'm guessing he'll play up front with McGoaldrought behind him... with our two wingers neither attacking or defending as usual.
Chez Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 with our two wingers neither attacking or defending as usual. Smith is ****e, Holmes is pants. The more they become regulars the more likely we are to go down.
Andy_Porter Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Smith is ****e, Holmes is pants. The more they become regulars the more likely we are to go down. Holmes has had more good games than bad games. Bit harsh to say he's pants. If Saga plays then I think we will at least have a chance. Can't be any worse than the other strikers we've used this season, give him the service and he will score. Would like to think he could work a decent partnership with McGoldrick.
Chez Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Holmes has had more good games than bad games. Bit harsh to say he's pants. I like his effort but he quite simply doesn't have any cutting edge.
buctootim Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Seems to me he's a form player -great when his mind is right. Lets hope that despite the interview he gave about wanting away that hes up for it.

Micky Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Given the time of year I fear they'll look more like this... Lets face it, the whole season has been a bloody pantomime up to now anyway and so therefore that wouldn't look out of place in our team. Probably faster and fitter than half of our squad anyway - bring it on - give it a game...!
hypochondriac Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Smith is ****e, Holmes is pants. The more they become regulars the more likely we are to go down. Based on what?
saint_stevo Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Saga is like a new signing! Holmes btw was very good earlier in the season, pre-injury FACT
L1Minus10 Posted 7 January, 2009 Posted 7 January, 2009 Smith is ****e, Holmes is pants. The more they become regulars the more likely we are to go down. Smith is a waste of space, especialy when on the wrong wing. I'm not sure why people whined that we'd signed him permanently when in effect we only signed him until the end of the season. Not sure about Holmes... I think many rate him simply because he has had a couple of good-ish games, unlike most of our signings who have had none. I don't think he's much good to be honest but in the context of the squad at the moment, he's ok.

Or if he does play then he plays out of his skin, and puts himself in the shop window for ahis last deal ever someone else According to that august journal The Echo, if he plays for us then he can't go on loan again abroad this season, only to another English club: http://m6live.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4022102.Saints_in_quandary_over_Saganowski/ Personally I hope he does play for us, will that extra £150K bankrupt us? Would getting relegated cost us more than the £150K his wages will cost for the rest of the season? Not sure when his contract runs out - hoping it's the end of this season.
