Pelle Set to Leave For China - Telegraph

Guided Missile

Totally and wholeheartedly agree. He has always shown great passion and commitment to the club. We are always looking for heroes and club stalwarts yet people want Pelle moved on and moan about Davis and Warde Prowse.[/quote

Except when he flounces out of training in a huff after being told off for not trying

I'm afraid you listen to much to the old timers that used to be ITK old boy

Who do you think Austin was brought in to replace?

i think the leicester fan the other day on here summed it up nicely. We (saints fans) always take that when a player of note comes in, it is to 'replace' someone.

why does Austin have to replace anyone.

we have european competitions, 2x cup competitions and now doubt, the club will want a good shout in the league.

our squad is way off being able to cope with all of that

So we are selling Italy's number 9 and have already sold our top scorer but we don't need to replace them? I beg to differ on this. The Echo article is written as if fed from club?

Yeah it does have that attempt at positive spin once it gets to the part about incomings.

i must say its a little worrying. Not sure I would be happy relying on the fitness of Austin and JayRod, not to mention Jay getting anything like decent form back. Will Long have another season like last year ? His record doesn't suggest it. Hopefully at least one of Mane or Pelle will be replaced after all.

Replaced with Redmond and Gallagher/Seager if you are to believe the Echo piece that reeks of being club fed

Because we have to name a 25 man squad so no point having 15 strikers

BREAKING NEWS

Some breaking news coming from Southampton and Sky sources understand that Graziano Pelle is set to sign for a Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng in a £13m deal next week.

Well, at least he wont be scoring against us.

Still cannot believe we are letting Italy's CF go. What with us being utterly slow-off-the-mark again with transfers this summer.

Especially when Austin and J-Rod are proven to be broken cart horses.

Is that like the "deep deep ****" you decided we were in early January - you are an omni-wrong poster on here. Will you ever learn not to make hasty erroneous predictions?

Good deal all round.

Depends on your definition as it seems we aren't currently planning to replace him. £13m in the bank I guess you could call a good deal and a good profit considering his age and remaining contract length. Not replacing him however will see us very light in this key position.

I think we just need to wait and see. Maybe J Rod and Austin have shown enough pre-season. Probably will bring someone else in though as Puel likes 2 up top.

Doubt it, pre-season is in what, week 2? Anyone who thinks we don't need to replace Pelle needs a slap and that includes Les.

We are always slow off the mark in the summer transfer market. Hate to say it, but I think we will be fighting relegation this year.

Shame to see him go: always been a fan.

However it is good business for a player most likely to be a Plan B, coming off the bench.

Remember the transfer window closes a few weeks after the season starts, so time enough to assess and decide if we do need an addition to $long, J-Rod and Austin.

Not liking the noises coming out of Saint Mary's. Seems we are reverting to the Rupert Lowe plan and we all know how that ended up.

We can't be left behind in the spending stakes. .Musa would of been a great signing and at 16 mil he would of been a bargain in today's market. The silence from the club at the moment is deafening ,not even a press conference from the new gaffer. All we are getting is drips fed to the echo.

Having a long term injury does not mean that when you come back you will definitely break down again, but it is more likely that you will compared to someone who hasn't (talking ligament/muscle injury). Austin and JRod will I am sure have good seasons and play at least 25 games each if not much more. The issue I have is that virtually every top team has 4 really good strikers, if Pelle goes we have 3. When we bought Austin in January I thought it was an excellent piece of business and still do, but just as good was it gave us a 4th striker. Assuming Pelle does go I think we need to sign a young striker (Berahino would be great or even Andy Carroll although unlikely) which will give us a front 6 of JRod, Austin, Long, Tadic, Redmond and new one. We then just need an AM (Chamberlain would be good) and a DM (Moussa Sissoko my choice). A back up GK and maybe a decent CB on loan and job done.

Total spend may well be 70-80 but income would be 60-65. Nothing really.

I imagine that the media suggestions that we are taking our time and not necessarily going to replace Pelle are just our way of moving out of the limelight for the National press so we can just get on with business and to try and subdue our thirst for news

Wait just read the echo article , well I stopped reading after the reporter said its a no brainier . When a reporter starts using that sort of prose , then it just confirms how **** a paper that is .

I hope he stays , but if he goes I hopes we have a few signing lined up . I read somewhere that long is being moved on . I hope that is total **** and someone on a wind up . COYS give us something to look forward to

Personally I thought we were far better with long instead. And I'd like to see the young strikers more involved. So long, Austin, Rodriguez, seager, Gallagher, I reckon it'll be alright. The ways fees are going I'm coming round to the idea of saints just not getting involved in it. Think a lot of clubs are going to waste a lot of money.

I'm inclined to agree. I mean, I think we need to replace Pelle, but there's a certain hype around Premier League financial wealth at the moment, and spouting off about how we're going to spend this and that, whilst reassuring to fans, sends the wrong message to clubs with players we wish to target.

With Mane it was his all round threat. The amount of corners and free kicks he would win, goals from half chance situations.

We can not replace Pelle and get away with it but if we want to be pushing top 8 again then we need to replace Mane. There is nobody at the club with attributes anywhere like his, and that includes Redmond.

Puel has got to be a cheap choice for manager. No club to pay off , comes from a league where the wages will be less than the premier league. Not saying he will be good or bad just its a fact we didn't aggressively go after another clubs manager and chose the option we thought was best, it might be a coincidence that it was also probably the cheapest option.

As a club it seems we value money above all else.sell players before they can go for free, sell at the highest value. By all accounts Pelle would have stayed but we want to "cash in". only buy players with a resale value etc etc

Hopefully Les etc know what they are doing! It has worked for them so far.

But yeah the silence is deafening and the ITKs have also gone quiet.

£5m profit on a soon-to-be 31-year-old Pellè with a dodgy knee and patchy goalscoring form (although a good overall return).

I can't see how we should turn that down. Take the money and run but slightly concerned they don't think we need to buy a replacement.

I agree it's a good deal considering his age but I'll miss quite a lot him as a player and enjoyed watching him in the last 2 years.

I'm very concerned if the club have leaked that to the Echo that there's no replacement for him with the amount of football we have to compete in during the first half of next season. That would be sheer lunacy - and unnecessary with the new TV deal. Hope that's the Echo speculating or Saints trying to bring the cost of their first choice replacement striker down.

Austin and J Rod have big question marks over their ability to play one game a week (although I feel sorry for J Rod, he was on fire before that sickening injury at City) let alone two on a regular basis. Surely that Echo report is wrong?

Do they have big question marks over them? Or is that just you having a melt? Do you think you are more qualified than the club and it's professionals to pass judgment?

Nice to see a return for a SWF Hall of Famer.

Still a very, very special guy.

When we bought Austin I was pleased but surprised as we really didn't need a forward...THEN, but if Pelle goes then I can understand why Austin was signed as his replacement. I also think Redmond is Mane's replacement. So I don't expect another incoming forward.

Is that sound policy? Probably not - I like the emphasis on Youth but that only works if the Youth are good - it's a gamble if they are not.

i'd be stunned if we are not lining up another Mane.

I always thought we would sign a right winger, left winger & no.10 to replace Mane/Gaston/Juanmi.

If we are counting J-rod as a striker, we only have Tadic who can play left.
