  1. 1. What would you do?

    • Stump up £6-7m
    • Up our current bid
    • Stand firm / replace

a) As chairman I wouldn't match Everton's offer, what if they up their offer again? How high do we go? The club should never be held to ransom by an individual. Southampton isn't about one person it's the whole team working together.Plus as chairman I'd question if he is worth the money. Perhaps he's not as good as we all think he is. Which Koeman do we get next season, the Winter can't-win-a-match Koeman, dumped out of the European Cup playing awful football, battered by Liverpool League Cup Koeman? Or the last half of this season Koeman beating all the big teams and getting us to 6th? Too risky, too expensive, especially if he has a sh*t season and we have to sack him.

b) No, for all the reasons above

c) I'd stick with the current plan, we know he's off at the end of next season anyway unless we pay him mega bucks which we aren't prepared to pay. Plan for the future with hopefully a new committed manager.

Increase the current deal a couple of million, because RK is worth it, and we would then not lose our best players so that would be good, but not above to match Everton which would be an unsustainable level, so moving on we would have to do.

C, stand firm on the contract offer and replace if he goes

but

keeping him would be statement of intent to the media and other teams that we can no longer be bullied for our manager or players. However, as even some Everton fans are saying as well as some of ours, £7 million per annum should be getting you one of the best managers in the world, which Koeman is not, yet. I'd rather we didn't spunk our load, especially after what we went through tail end of the noughties. Plenty of good managers out there.

C Always a gamble changing manager but clearly not here for long anyway (2 more years max). We have a good squad some excellent players so he next manager is a lucky person..use the extra money from Option A to give the new guy a boost in the transfer market or an existing player or two a rise!

As we have learned over the years, the club is bigger than a single individual. If we have to match Everton's offer before Koeman considers staying at his current club, then it kind of indicates that he isn't really committed long-term, let's be honest.

So, I think it would be utter stupidity to match 7m a year - or whatever it was. If he wants to go, and if Everton want to pay well over the odds (which they are doing) then let them do it, let us move on and stick to the club-wide plan rather than basing our future on one individual.

That's how I see it anyway.

But sureky upping our bid to say 4 million to maybe keep him isn't risking financial credibility.

It is if he's put us in the situation, shows he isn't really committed. It's not about the money for me, it's about having someone who buys into what the club are doing and wants to be here long-term. That's what it's all about and the outcome of this will confirm that.

But surely both poch and Koeman have looked at that ambition and thought "no thanks". The board talk a good game and champions league but don't seem to want to go that extra mile to do that in reality. The amount of players we have lost last few years isn't normal for even clubs our size. Must be more to it. I think the club need to be honest and say what the real aim is and if they can't take us further sell it to someone who can.

Or they've both looked at their bank balances.

Yes, the board talk a good game, and they have produced a very, very good game over the last 7 years. They know what they're doing.

Les Reed has stated over and over and over again what the club's aim is, and it is currently being delivered on. I'm looking forward to seeing us in Europe come September.

D)put him on gardening leave for twelve months as Mainz did when Tuchel left them.

Yes, money down the drain, but probably one Juanmi, and less than an Osvaldo or Gaston for RK, Erwin and their fitness coach. At least it would stop those scouse c^nts from appointing him.

I heard that the club called a meeting of all the staff at the of the season, announcing that they were definitely going to try and push on this season and aim for Champions League football. Apparently, the meeting was very positive. Shortly afterwards, 3 players signed long-term contracts, so they were obviously convinced we are on the right lines as a club.

Perhaps the club are not convinced by Koeman's commitment. If his head is easily turned by Everton, is he really the man we want?

Would love to do this on Koeman and Everton, they try to screw us we screw them instead, Everton would be IMO be in a relegation battle as it would cause so much uncertainty it would see Lukaku Barkley Stones etc all leave and they would have a temp head coach in place, if they dont and go for someone else that person knows they was not number 1 choice.

Would be a false economy to lose a good manager for the sake of a few million. I doubt wages are the only issue though, probably more to do with ambition (size of transfer budget).

Size of transfer budget and ambition are not necessarily related. I suspect Everton are about to find that out.
